Casa Raab is located on a 40 acre nature preserve in the foothills, just north of the city of Oaxaca. The landscape has lush creeks, cornfields, agave plantations, mineral springs, an onyx mine... and wonderful views of the valley below. Although secluded and in a ranch-like village setting, it is just 20 minutes to the heart of Oaxaca.
A stay at Casa Raab may include guided visits to traditional markets, ancient ruins, handicraft villages, mezcal stills, art galleries, museums and the city of Oaxaca. From individual travelers to medium size groups... from family reunions to weddings, workshop-seminars and retreats; Casa Raab and its staff can handle your every need.
What to Do?: Visit archaeological ruins, handicraft villages, world famous markets, museums, churches, galleries, mezcal distilleries and the lively zocalo (town square). Go for long walks through the villages or in the foothills, take an eco-adventure or a short flight/long drive to Pacific beaches.
Day-Trip Tours & most other transportation services can be arranged with us. We use a 15 passenger air conditioned van. Tours include handicraft village shopping for black pottery, woven tapestries, embroidered cottons & carved wooden animals.
Mezcal Tours into remote parts of Oaxaca are our specialty. We also grow thousands of agaves and distill them into Mezcal, right here at Casa Raab!
Amenities:: You will be served by our friendly Mexican staff, who live in the village and have been with us for several years. We are fully furnished, have a beautiful pool and offer laundry and maid service. Our great meals are prepared in either American or authentic Oaxacan style. Unlimited hiking and exploration are here on Casa Raab's 40 acres...... and all or this within a wonderful village atmosphere. - Transportation services are optional and may be arranged.
We had an eclectic group of 8 descend upon Casa Raab for Oaxaca's fabulous week - Dia del los Muertos and were welcomed with open arms by Rebecca and her team. Everyone in our group is grateful for the Casa Raab comfy accommodations and fabuloso support in getting to know more about the region. Every word of the description and photos provided are accurate and understated for the experience we enjoyed - read it and believe it! Every morning we awoke to a bountiful breakfast and we made arrangements for dinners that reflected the local cuisine and were delicious. Every bedroom was an inspiration of art, textile and comfort, everyone enjoyed the privacy of their rooms.
We were a busy group, traveling the region everyday, so we didn't spend as much time as we would have liked enjoying Casa Raab and San Pablo . . . but we will return and plan to enjoy more "down time" on this lovely property and community. Owner Rebecca is an exceptional, knowledgable local who gently guided our experience and managed our energetic group. This home and setting is for the casual traveler, which is a good thing! If there are any ratings below excellent for Casa Raab, these folks didn't read the accurate listing.
Fresh towels, refreshing pool, plenty of space, abundant food and beverage, expert info on local artists & history, friendly animals and lots of love punctuated our week at Casa Raab.
Rebecca's mission for animal care is legendary, appreciated and everyone in our group was moved by her commitment to caring for animals and the environment. Many thanks, mil gracias for our groups' welcome at Casa Raab, we all feel like part of the family!
My family and I had an awesome stay. The house was great and the grounds were beautiful. We will come back again. Can hardly wait for our trip next year. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Casa Raab lives up to expectations and its description. I had the happy experience of staying in La Casita for 2 months and loved the country setting, the friendly and helpful owners, Tony and Rebecca, and, the friendly neighbourhood. Oaxaca city lives up to its promise in all respects and I look forward to returning. Although taxi transportation is available, a car for longer stays would be an asset.
We had a wonderful time at Casa Raab, both relaxing and having adventures. We went hiking every morning in the beautiful hills, ate the delicious meals provided, relaxed by the refreshing pool when it was hot, and appreciated all the caring details in the spacious rooms, filled with traditional arts and crafts. After the intensity of the city of Oaxaca, it's great to retreat to this quiet country setting. Tony and Rebecca are gracious, knowledgable, and helpful hosts.
Oaxaca towns and villages still retain the spirit of Old Mexico; with fiestas, music and laughter in the air. The three Oaxacan valleys are subtropical highlands, with breathtaking natural beauty, ecological diversity and rich cultural history. Exciting trips into the mountains can take you into world famous ecological zones.
Oaxaca City is located at 5,200 feet above sea level. This high mountain tropical location creates a nearly perfect year round climate, with low humidity and cool nights,
Other Activities: Animal rescue, mezcal tours, markets, handicraft villages, ancient ruins, music, museums, restaurants
Golf: There is a nice 9 hole country club with 20 minutes of Casa Raab. It has great locker rooms with steam baths, an Olympic size pool, and a good little restaurant. Clubs and caddies are available. It costs about $50 us for 18 holes.
