I am a retired voman from Sweden and I spent May and June 2014 in this beautiful and comfortable apartment. I had visitors from Sweden, among them my daughter and my niece 33 and 39 years old and they liked this apartment as much as I do. My two other friends also liked the apartment very much. About one month I was alone and I felt safe and satisfied and I knew that this Lovely hosts Fernand and Carmela were there if I needed help or advice. They assured me also about this.
At the arrival Carmela showed us the apartment. It was clean and nice and Carmela said to me I could only tell them when I wished a new cleaning or new clean sheets and towels. And it was clean all the time.
Fernand showed us the supermarket and helped us to buy tickets for the subway.
When my first visitor went back to Sweden Fernand told me once again to say if I needed something. Carmela gave me some culture advice which was very appreciated.
Fernand and Carmela are very kind, nice and humble and at the same time discret and you can feel that it is your apartment during the time you are there. As well I as my visitors like them very much. After my two months stay in Brooklyn Fernand was kind to drive me to the Airport and I am very thankful for that as I was alone and had a heavy luggage.
I can also tell you that it is 5 minutes walk to bus no 15 which goes directly to JFK Airport. I met and followed one friend by this bus. It takes about 1 hour. Moreover it is 2 buses around the corner and about 10 minutes walk to the subway.
The neighbourhood is also nice and safety and many persons in the street have some kind words to say. There are many groceries and no problem to buy the most important things anytime.
I want really recommend this apartment with the charming hosts and if I or my daughter come back to NewYork we wish very much to stay here again, it is our first choice and so we tell our friends too. We will recommend this apartment to people we know and are on their way to NewYork.
From the moment we arrived everything to do with this property is first class. It is in a lovely neighbourhood and an easy walk to the subway and a supermarket. The apartment is elegant and exactly as shown in the photos, and a great place to relax after a day's sightseeing. Fernand is the perfect host and we enjoyed many conversations with him and his lovely wife (and the dog). All destinations in NYC are easily accessed by the subway. If you are looking for a great destination at a great price this is the place to stay!
My partner and I arrived at Fernand and Carmela's for the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. We arrived to find a beautiful apt and a warm and laid back welcome from our hosts. We were instantly comfortable. The apartment was clean and extremely well kept. The linens were crisp and we had everything we needed. The home is a comfortable stroll to the subway line and we were even able to figure out the bus-route on a couple of occasions, making our trips to Manhattan , Long Island City and throughout Brooklyn really easy. Everything listed in the description was accurate. It's located in an up and coming area of Bed-Stuy (which was nice and homey) and we found the neighborhood to be friendly and the people very helpful. We would absolutely stay there again. Thumbs up.
When I say that this property was everything I asked for, simply it was. The cozy setting made me feel at home. The pictures provided are 100% accurate to what the unit looks like. The unit was very clean. This was my first trip to NY so being close to the subway systems was very helpful. The area of Bed-Stuy where this unit is located was very quiet. The owner was very warming and available at all times. Fernand, I look forward to visiting you again in March.
My husband and I had a lovely time in Fernand's apartment and in Brooklyn. Fernand was most welcoming and drove us for groceries when we arrived which was greatly appreciated - all in all a great host. The apartment itself is clean, well maintained and comfortable with all amenities one needs. Subway is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment and about 30 min from Manhattan. The area has some lovely brownstone buildings and appears to be going through a renaissance. Would recommend this property, great value and convenience.
What a great stay! We felt very welcome in by the hosts of the apartment. They were both there when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. The apartment was great, clean and well air conditioned (a must in NYC in the summer). The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The neighborhood is very friendly. We felt at home:)
Distance walking from the subway A and C.
Need to try the local restaurant Peaches in the house (very close to the apartment) - they have the best chicken in town:)
Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn– known worldwide for its magnificent architecture, tree-lined blocks, community gardens, and the new Barclay Center (Professional Basket Arena) as home to such significant cultural figures as Lena Horne, Max Roach, Chris Rock, Eubie Blake, Shirley Chisholm, and countless others – is in the flowering of a new cultural and commercial renaissance. Shops, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and cafés are popping up faster than one can keep up with, and there is an influx of new residents who are turning this historically Black community into a truly diverse enclave of progressive people of all backgrounds.
Despite this tremendous transformation, it maintains a charm that can be experienced by strolling down one of its many quiet, safe, leafy, beautiful blocks.
Manhattan is about 12 minutes away; 5 stops on the 'A' Express.
