Words cannot describe the 'peaceful easy feeling' this beachfront property offers. When you wake in the morning and look out towards the sea, it feels as if you are floating on the water, the house is so close to the sea. The magical garden is filled with hundreds of flowers providing a healing space to relax and revive. The villa is located near the beach town of Lovina. The area is rural and quaint, a place where you can still experience the 'real Bali' away from the crowded tourist traps in the South. The staff who attend to the villa are wonderful local Balinese who will share their life with you and provide any service you require from home cooked meals daily, tours directly from the house, daily massages, shopping trips etc... Or, they can leave you in total privacy if that is preferred. The house has spectacular artwork, high speed wireless internet, cable TV, and an extensive DVD library. If you want to revive and regenerate this is the place for you ! Don't miss this paradise!
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, went to college in Portland, Oregon, lived in Japan for many years and now reside in Los Angeles California. I travel about 8 months of the year on business, and my favorite place on earth is my villa in Lovina.
Jody Toll purchased this villa in 2007
I have been a lover of the beach my entire life. I travel constantly for work, mostly throughout Asia, and have found a wonderful place to come and unwind, in a peaceful and nurturing environment right on the beach, with exquisite gardens. I chose this location because it is not overly touristic, the local people are wonderful and the views are absolutely breathtaking. It is a wonderful place to relax and heal the spirit.
This villa is truly a unique blend of absolute direct beachfront beauty and an amazingly quaint and extensive garden. It is colorful and has a wonderful energy. The staff who attend to your every needs are very special, kind and make each guest feel like this is their home. It is a truly unique experience staying at this villa. We've added some fun equipment; ping-pong table, 2 rebounder trampolines, 2 bikes with helmets, an inflatable kayak, a stand-up surf board (SUP) and a fishing boat which are available for guest usage at no extra cost.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful villa for two and a half weeks and it was amazing. Everything from the decorating in the villa, too the gardening in the backyard, and the outstanding Staff at the villa make this the best holiday we have even been on. The villa feels very safe, and along with the great company of the staff this proved to be a great place to stay that felt like home. We found out very quickly that the best food in bali was being made for us in our our personal balinese Villa by Kadek, one of the wonderful staff that work on site.
We will be recommending this villa to everyone we know interested in staying in Bali. And as far as me and my wife, we are hoping to make this a reoccurring vacation because it feels like a home away from home.
We stayed in this lovely tropical paradise for two whole weeks. Every morning when I woke up and wandered out to the pool area with my cup of tea I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The bonus was I was still alive! Looking over the cool pool surrounded by a very pretty garden and with the hazy North Bali Sea as a backdrop, it was just divine!
The villa is furnished and decorated beautifully with an eclectic mix of furniture artwork and lighting from around the world. The bedrooms are spacious, the beds comfortable and the bedding top class. It is fully kitted out with plenty of clean towels and a fully set up kitchen with some gorgeous quirky dinnerware.
In the late afternoon we would pour a glass a chilled wine and settle in to watch the glorious sunset.
Kadek, a local Balinese lady who takes care of the house, is really switched on and also lovely. She is happy to help with anything but in our case was happy to leave us to our own devices most of the time. You can ask her anything and she knows where to get it, or can point you in the right direction.
Gusdee, a local Balinese man keeps the garden looking beautiful and the pool spotless.
We found Chono's Hotel fantastic as our own personal room service provider. Just ring them up at any time and they will promptly deliver what ever you want from about 7 am to 10 pm. We ordered fresh tropical fruit platters and toasted sandwiches for breakfast and great meals such as garlic and chilli prawns or a peppered steak chips and salad for dinner. Very easy and very very reasonable prices.
For getting around, Putu, the resident driver, will drive you anywhere you want for a very reasonable fee. He is a very polite and charming young man. Top class service at such reasonable rates, you would be crazy to go elsewhere.
In short, we had a first class holiday with all the fruit, literally and figuratively, for a very reasonable cost. In fact we were so enamoured by the experience, we are buying our own villa in the area.
OMG!......eating fried rice made by Kadek,
Sitting in a beautiful beach villa in Bali,
Smelling the sweet scent of the flowers and incense,
Listening to Adele in the background,
Hearing to the sound of the waves crash on the beach,
Being with my honey......
I think I'm in heaven!
This is the text I sent to my kids the first night at Villa Kupu Kupu.
It was so magical from the moment we walked thru the doors.
Kadek and Gusdee greeted us with warm open arms.
The gardens surrounding the house are spectacular. Gusdee is a beautiful man with a magical ability to grow anything and keep it thriving.
Kadek will tend to your every need. She is an amazing cook. Her beauty and her contagious smile will make you feel at home.
The Villa is a wonderful collection of colorful art, eclectic furniture, lighting, and spectacular views. It was so relaxing with the cool breeze flowing through the Villa, day and night.
The black sand beach sparkles in the moonlight like diamonds in the sand. Swimming in the pool was healing with all the lush garden around you..... ahhhh! This adventure is forever in my heart and soul.
We will go back someday soon and we WILL stay at Villa Kupu Kupu again.
Thanks Jody for letting us share paradise.
My wife and family (2 children, ages 10 and 12) stayed for Christmas and New Years
last year and have to say that it was the best holiday we have ever had. Our stay
was made perfect by the villa staff Kadek and Gusdee providing everything (and more!)
that we could ever expect. The Villa is a paradise, the views and location so close to
the beach we felt like we were a part of it. The natural beauty surrounding the house was
exotic and breath taking. Our children where never bored with so much to explore and
experience. We show our vacation pictures to everyone we know, and highly recommend
a stay at Villa Kupu Kupu.
Sunrise boat trips to see dolphins is one of Lovina's most popular tourist activities. Rather than join the large groups of tourists departing from the center of Lovina, you will be picked up in front of Villa Kupu Kupu and taken on a private boat trip to watch these amazing creatures put on a show as the sun rises.
SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELLING: Lovina is an ideal place to discover the underwater world of Bali. Scuba diving on the local reef is better at lower depths and night diving is particularly recommended. Generally, the water is clear and some parts of the reef are quite good for snorkelling. The best place is to the west, a few-hundred metres offshore from Billibo Beach Cottages. There are several Padi certified dive operators and teachers based out of Lovina that operate daily dive trips. Menjangan Island is one of the spots near Lovina where one can discover the colourful underwater world. Amed and Tulamben (wreck dive) are within reach as well. Guides are available in a variety of languages and multi-day discounts are available. Beginner courses and advanced diving excursions are available from various shops located in downtown Lovina.
GIT-GIT WATERFALL: A 40 meter high waterfall. A path of about 1 km filled with souvenir warungs and shops where you can buy cheap clothes takes you to one the most breathtaking waterfalls in Bali. Sit down and relax with the sound of the water, falling in the bouldered river.
BUDDHIST MONASTERY & TEMPLES: In the hills of Banjar is a Buddhist monastery. It is in a fabulous location, very peaceful, and the decoration is beautiful. East of Lovina you can find Beji Temple in Sangsit which is dedicated to the Rice Goddess, Jagaraja. To the west of Lovina is Pulaki Temple, which is crowded with wild monkeys who are considered descendants of Dewa (God). Ulundanu Temple is located near Bedugul.
AIR BANJAR HOT SPRINGS: Located west of Lovina, Air Banjar (or Panjar) is an enchanting hot springs with stone carved mouths gushing water amongst a lush garden setting. A nominal entrance fee is charged. Go in the morning if you want some peace and quiet, you will have the place to yourself if you get there before 9am.
BERATAN, BUYAN & TAMBLINGAN LAKES: These twin lakes provide panoramic views and excellent trekking.
GOLF: There is a world famous golf course in Bedugal, about 45 minutes from Lovina
COUNTRY PARK: If you require a more energetic activity then there is Bali’s tree top adventure park in Bedugal where you can enjoy climbing, death slides and another 72 adrenaline circuits that will take about 2.5 hours to complete. There are 2 children sized courses and 4 adult size courses, and for those of you who wish to take the leisurely life style there are plenty or areas to lay down, read a book and wait for your party to return.
Komang Dodik leads highly recommended hikes in the hills along the north coast. Trips start at 250,000Rp per person and can last from three to seven hours. The highlight of most is a series of waterfalls, over 20m high, in a jungle grotto. Routes can include coffee and vanilla plantations.
OTHER WATER SPORTS: At Lovina beach you can do Para sailing, waterskiing and kneeboarding.
GILI ISLANDS: Around on the east coast of Bali in Amrd there are boat trips to Gilis Meno Island and Lombok at 550,000 Rp one way trip. Gilis Islands are really fun with a great nightlife / party scene.
SEKUMPUL WATERFALL - An off the beaten track adventure through a canopy of spice and tropical fruit trees. A path leads to the gorge and all levels of hikers will find the view of these multiple falls breathtaking. Or climb down the series of stairs to arrive beneath the falls and take in the spray.
JEEP TREKS- Ride on the back roads through the clove and coffee plantations for a glimpse of Bali most people never see. This intimate look at the life of Bali and the extraordinary views of the Bali Sea at sunset is often a highlight of guests' trip to North Bali.
COOKING CLASSES: There are several excellent cooking classes in the Lovina area.
