Overview

St. Croix Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 full bathroom, full kitchen

This brand new 1B/1B oceanfront cottage with a full kitchen sits in a gated community on St. Croix's north shore. The property finished construction March 2012. Sit and watch the surfers, windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers, and pelicans cruise through the water from the cottage deck or walk the 25 yards down to the beach for an even closer look. You may even run into a 500 pound turtle making a nest. Walk/run/bike the 9 miles of private roads within the safe gated community. Great central location for exploring all that St. Croix has to offer. 4 miles to downtown Christiansted.

The property was shown on an episode of HGTV's House Hunter's International (Caribbean Quandary). Check it out at the end of the show.

St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, but it remains a well-kept secret in comparison to St. Thomas and St. John. St. Croix is much quieter and more laid-back. The island offers water sports in abundance, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, surfing, and kite-surfing, with numerous beaches to explore. St. Croix has two small towns (Christiansted and Frederiksted) that have duty-free shopping and historic architecture. St. Croix offers something for everyone. Come relax on this wonderful island. No passports needed for US citizens.

St. Croix isn't just the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, but it also boasts the Caribbean's largest living reef. And it is the only spot in the region where you can dive a wall that drops more than 13,000 feet.

Rates are $1,200/wk in the summer and $1,600/wk in the winter.

About Chad Walter

Chad and Emily moved to St. Croix in 2008. They proceeded to build their dream home on the beach in 2011, finishing in 2012. They decided to build a separate cottage to rent out to couples looking for something different, something more private than what is offered at hotels.

Chad Walter purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Chad Walter chose St. Croix

The location of this property is on the beach in the gated community of Judith's Fancy. The neighborhood has 9 miles of roads to walk and run all while looking out at the turquoise water. The property is situated mid-island, so you are a short drive to anything you want to explore in St. Croix. We are located approximately 4 miles west of Christiansted.

What makes this cottage unique

Brand new everything. 15-foot ceilings.

An Amazing Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

Despite arriving on Friday the 13th, we had an epic stay at Chad & Emily's cottage! They were super friendly and provided so many nice perks during our stay (cookies, RUM, GPS, phone).

The property is a dream - nestled in a cute gated community with easy access to the island. We covered so much during our 4 days there with highlights being: Sandy Point beach, Point Udall, ATV tour and waverunner adventure, Buck Island, playing craps at the casino with locals, night time kayaking, Cruzan Rum distillery, the botanical gardens, and some great dinners.

We were out-and-about so much, but the cottage has absolutely everything you could need. It made packing much easier :-) A Jeep rental was a great choice with the top down every day... and some wild off-roading through the mud and trenches on "Scenic Road".

We ran into trouble with JetBlue trying to get home... Chad & Emily were super accommodating and helped us "unexpectedly" extend our stay. Would love to come back every year!

Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a charming stay at the Oceanfront Honeymoon Cottage. It was our first visit to St. Croix and Chad and Emily were the perfect hosts, readily available to provide guidance and recommendations for places to sightsee, dine and explore. The accommodations were impeccable, nicely-appointed and well-located for us to use as a base to explore real estate, which was our particular goal for the trip. Chad and Emily's personal story of relocating from the mainland was an inspiration to us. We enjoyed sunsets at Rumrunners, crab races at the Deep End and wining/dining at Salud! and The Galleon. We look forward to returning.

Amazing experience!!

  • 5 of 5

What more can I say that already hasn't been said. The cottage is perfection and Chad and Emily were fabulous hosts. Perfect location, great amenities....what more can you ask for?! Even though my husband came down with a sinus infection half way thru the trip - we still had an amazing time. Our favorite beaches were Chenay Bay and Sandy Point. Our favorite Meals were the Shrimp Tacos at Rythyms at Rainbow Beach and dinner at Salud. The only regret we had was not eating at Salud sooner so we could have had more meals there. Because of his cold, we did not get to to Scuba or Snorkel, so we will be back and will most definitely stay at the cottage again. Many, many thanks to Chad and Emily for being a part of this wonderful experience.

Ocean Oasis

We arrived very late and drove to the cottage directly. Chad and Emily were there to greet us, even though it was quite late. The bottle of rum and Thanksgiving-themed cookies were a personable and sweet touch. This little cottage is meticulously clean, updated, and elegant. Chad and Emily thought of everything! While we were there we rented a Jeep (which is a MUST) and each day we spent the entire day sightseeing to many different locations. There was a fairy large amount of seaweed on the north side of the island where this home is located, however it was very rare. Since the island is small enough, we were able to travel to all ends of the island and explore beaches that were not infested. "Savant" in Christiansted is highly suggested if you're looking for high quality food, as well as "Waves" at Cane Bay. I know you will LOVE St. Croix and this perfect home away from home. We cannot wait to return!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review. There was a lot of seaweed at that time, and crazy enough it got worse in December. However, by mid-January it was pretty much gone. Hope to see you guys again soon.

Perfect!

I'm really not sure where to start when I try to write down all of the great memories my wife and I had in St Croix. Our trip started off a little bumpy as all of my Wife's luggage was lost, we got lost getting to the cottage and I had to drive on the left side of the road. Our worries were quickly squashed as soon as we saw the cottage, the view and met Chad and Emily. They fed us some cookies (yum), gave us a tour of the cottage and pointed us in the direction of the closest store to get some provisional's. The cottage and the community is beautiful and safe. The views, the smells and sounds are perfect for relaxation! Our typical day consisted of waking up to wonderful sunshine coming in the cottage windows, coffee on the beach and a very tough run through the neighboring hillside. The running and walking is spectacular and a great workout with amazing views of the turquoise waters of the Salt River and North Shore. We would then get cleaned up and grab whatever we thought we would need for the day of exploring. Emily and Chad have the cottage well stocked with snorkel gear, cooler, beach towels, chairs. Anything you would need for a day out on the Island. There are so many things to see that I would never be able to list them all. A couple of our favorites were Issac's Bay beach out on the East end. We spent two days here snorkeling and walking. The beach is completely deserted and we had it to ourselves both days. Cane Bay for snorkeling and swimming was another great place with a nice lunch and dinner spot across the street called EAT@CaneBay. Next time we visit we will do some shore diving, hear the wall is really fun. Sandy Point was only opened on the day we were leaving but we did visit and we know we have to spend more time there when we come back. We also learned quickly that we like Rum(a lot). The Cruzan Rum tour was fun and they offer a couple drinks after the tour. We quickly were addicted to the "Painkillers" and found ourselves asking for them if we didn't see them on the menu.

We can't say enough about this Island and the wonderful place we stayed. Although we started off a little bumpy it ended up being the vacation of our lives. We will be back. Emily and Chad you have something really special.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that we did get the luggage the morning after our arrival. Everything worked out perfectly.

I would recommend nobody hesitate to book this cottage!

Pefect!!

We arrived on 12/22/14 and drove directly to the cottage from the airport. The drive was approximately 20 minutes. Just remember they drive on the left in St Croix. We stayed for 9 wonderful nights and 10 beautiful days.

The cottage was immaculate and contained everything you could possibly need. The full kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, utensils, dishes, and glasses. We used the stove top, oven, microwave, and toaster for at least one meal each day of our stay. For us the Plaza Extra super market near the airport had the best prices and selections. Cost U Less was a close second.

There are plenty of towels and wash clothes for the bath and even beach towels if you need them. Snorkel gear, beach chairs: many all inclusive resorts do not provide the amenities that are provided by Chad and Emily. Perfect hosts by the way. They have a beautiful, special piece of property on St. Croix and we feel very fortunate to have had them share it with us. As dazzling as the pictures of the cottage are, it is even more spectacular when you are there in person.

The cottage is centrally located on the island which is a big plus. We would head out each day after enjoying our morning coffee and breakfast while the sun rose over the hills just to the east. Each morning was so peaceful and perfect.

Everywhere that we visited on the island was worth the time spent, but the following were special. Buck Island, you just have to see it. I don't have the words. We used Big Beard's for our trip to Buck Island and enjoyed every minute. The towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted. The Catholic, Episcopal, and Lutheran churches in Christiansted. The Carambola resort in the west end, Tamarind Reef Resort, Shoy's Beach,The Buccaneer Resort, all of the east end of the island, and the Rain Forest are some examples of the places we enjoyed very much.

We ate very well during our stay. The sandwiches freshly prepared at the Quality Grocery near the cottage, were large and as tasty as any I have ever had. Paris preferred them to the ones at Turtle's Deli. Both locations are a must stop in my opinion. In the evening we especially enjoyed our meals at the Palms Restaurant, and at Angry Nate's on the Boardwalk. The rock lobster that I had was just perfect and delicious. The Mermaid Grill at the Buccaneer was very good as was the Deep End Bar and Restaurant and Tamarind Reef. La Reine's Chicken Shack is another must stop.

Planning our return already, J and P
