We are “island people,” having lived in the Caribbean—and having traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and Pacific. We moved back to the US from St. Croix in 1980, realizing we needed a more stable environment in which to raise and educate our children. (Karen concentrated on technology and healthcare marketing, and Peter worked in sales and customer service.) We found Treasure Beach when we were searching for a sweet and unspoiled place in the Caribbean to visit—and first stayed there in 1985. We immediately fell in love with the people, returning as often as we could. We purchased 5-1/2 beachfront acres in 1988, designed Rainbow Tree, and had it carefully constructed from 1989-1991. (Because we lived in the Caribbean, we understood the special design and construction considerations.) Our staff has been with us since 1990. We have become an integral part of the community and regard Treasure Beach as our second home. Karen heads Treasure Beach Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to providing educational opportunities for the students of Treasure Beach.
Peter Kennedy purchased this villa in 1991
Treasure Beach is well outside the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas of Jamaica. The residents are decent and hardworking—and they call tourists “guests.” Treasure Beach has a casual, laid-back feel. When we had the opportunity to purchase 5-1/2 acres—what we thought was the finest land in the area—we jumped at the chance. We have had a relationship with our employees for 20+ years; they delight at making our guests feel as comfortable as possible—and are largely responsible for our exceptionally high rate of return guests and referrals.
Our land extends from the road to the beach. The villa itself is superbly designed and constructed. There are 17-foot cathedral ceilings throughout, keeping it airy and cool. All rooms and closets are oversized. The living room alone is 30 feet long and has several seating areas. All bedrooms have cross ventilation, and A/C is available in each; all mattresses are custom-made to hotel standards. The villa is full of original Jamaican art and photography. Large verandahs surround the house, providing numerous areas to relax. The 30 foot freshwater pool has a large deck, a gazebo, and two sun shelters. We recently added an outside kitchen in which the staff prepares amazing Jamaican meals including jerk chicken and pork. The sound system has speakers inside and outside; wi-fi is there if you care to keep in touch with the outside world. Our villas manager is available to take you on delightful day trips. Loving, responsible nanny service can easily be provided.
My wife and I have stayed many times at Rainbow Tree and Rainbow Point Villas. If you are looking for the most relaxing sun filled vacation - look no further. The staff is incredible- within minutes of meeting the staff, you will feel like family. Both villa's facilities are spectacular. Incredible ocean and starry night moonlight views. We would recommend either villa for those who either want a romantic get-a-way, a family with children vacation or friends just hanging out for a week or so. You simply will not be disappointed at either Rainbow Tree or Rainbow Point. Its our home away from home. A 10-star vacation!
Back in 1974-76 I taught school in Jamaica for two years, living near Savannah La Mar with my three kids. Many times I have been back, but my most recent trip was truly memorable. My husband and I had grown tired of the noise, too many tourists, and hustle of the North Coast, so we decided to try the South Coast this time because we know it's still unspoiled. We searched the internet and loved seeing the pictures and reviews of Rainbow Tree, so we booked there.
We were not disappointed! It's an incredibly beautiful spot, well-maintained, and looks oh so Caribbean, sitting on a bluff above the sea. We were greeted by Laura and Jenny who had prepared a very tasty group of appetizers and drinks for us to enjoy, which we did on the back veranda. Somehow we timed our arrival to just before sundown, so we relaxed with our drinks, watching a picture-perfect sunset, the colors varied from pink to orange to purple, as the sun slipped into the sea. I knew then that our vacation would be filled with good people, good food, nature, and relaxation. Ahhhhh...
Each morning we walked up the nearly deserted beach to the fishing village, where brightly-painted boats were pulled up on the beach. If you see anyone, tourist or local, the person will greet you with a smile, but won't intrude on your experience. What a contrast to the hustle of the crowded beaches of the North Coast!
Both Laura and Jenny have worked with the owners of Rainbow Tree for many, many years, Laura since it was built 23 years ago—and Jenny for a dozen. What a great tribute to the owners that their staff does not want to leave! What a great tribute to Laura and Jenny, that the owners are happy with them, too! With so many years of experienced staff, you can imagine how smoothly and calmly the place runs.
Aman, Laura's husband, is available for transport if you don't have a car. He drove us all the way over to Grange Hill, several hours away, so I could visit my old school. It was so gratifying to be greeted with smiles from several on staff who had been there those many years ago when I taught there. I couldn't stop crying, especially when I reunited with two of my students who teach there now. That's Jamaica, full of beautiful people and beautiful places, all glowing beneath the Caribbean sun. Try Rainbow Tree---the staff is dedicated to making your stay wonderful, the sea is there to salve your soul, and you will come back contented and refreshed.
We recently visited Rainbow Tree Villa with a group of friends Jan. 2015 and truly loved it. Treasure Beach is a fabulous community of friendly people with very little tourists. The staff couldn't have been better. Jenny and Laura were great cooks and Calvin took care of the grounds and pool so well. Aman, also the taxi driver to and
from the airport, took us in his boat one day to Black River plus Pelican Bar. What a treat to meet Floyd, the owner of Pelican Bar, where we enjoy a delicious fish lunch and drinks. The last night of our trip we went across street to a restaurant and Chris, the owner and chef, fixed us an inexpensive dinner of lionfish and lobster.
Our stay at Rainbow Tree Villa was very relaxing and memorable and we are looking to return. I would recommend that everyone should visit Treasure Beach and stay at the Rainbow Tree Villa.
One of the best places you will ever stay. My wife and I and two other couples were planning on going to Cabo until a hurricane hit and our rooms were unavailable 4 weeks before we were scheduled to leave. Luckily, the Rainbow Tree was available. Peter was a great help describing the property and what we could expect. Treasure beach is a wonderful village with little to no tourism. Everyone in the community was extremely friendly and welcoming and we at no time felt uncomfortable to be out alone. Miss Jenni and Miss Laura were amazing and excellent cooks. Aman met us at the airport and drove us to the villa and made us feel comfortable right off of the plane. We decided to go out to eat one night and he dropped us off and picked us up at a local restaurant down the beach and also drove us to the waterfalls for a day trip. The beach that the villa is located on is safe and would be perfect for children. There is a reef that protects the swimming area that has a perfect sand bottom. You can snorkel right in front of the villa. Highly recommend staying at the Rainbow Tree.
My wife, son (8) and daughter (5) enjoyed this location, villa, and staff for a week. Our every need was taken care of proactively - including sewing and minor repair to damaged luggage, and attention to my daughter's allergies (dairy, fish, nuts, eggs) with absolutely no issues. The food was fresh and fantastic (kids loved the breakfasts, adults loved it all).
Recommend the local trips (Pelican Bar, Black River, Appleton Rum, etc.) and exploring and interacting with the locals. Even with young kids we felt safe the whole time as the staff and even owners of this property are part of the local fabric and have been for decades.
We recommend this paradise to our friends and would love to come back.
It's been 9 months since our amazing trip to Rainbow Tree Villa in Treasure Beach and I still think about it everyday! We traveled there from Canada with 3 other couples and we all felt like it was too good to be true. Our first time staying in a villa and I will never be able to do an all-inclusive again. We enjoyed every minute, from lounging around the private pool and strolling the gorgeous beach and relaxing on the veranda. The food was incredible, we devoured every meal. A huge thank-you to Ms Laura and Ms Jenni, they cook with love and truly made us feel welcome and pampered! We ate all our meals on the veranda with the incredible views of the fruit trees, ocean and gorgeous sunsets.
The villa is beautifully decorated, gorgeous photos and art everywhere you look. It really did feel like a home away from home. We did a few excursions to YS Falls, the Pelican Bar and Appleton's Rum Factory and had a great time. Aman was a wonderful guide and driver and showed us the side of Jamaica that most travelers never experience. Calvin keeps the property at Rainbow Tree immaculate, the gardens are beautiful and our beach bonfire was incredible!
I highly recommend this hidden paradise to everyone. It was an unforgettable vacation, Peter, the owner was a pleasure to work with to make this vacation a dream come true. We will most definitely be back, and this time with our kids !
We have just spent Christmas at Rainbow Tree and feel lucky to have experienced such a wonderful holiday. We went as two families with children aged 6 - 13 years. The house was perfect, giving us all the space we needed to relax, and had an amazing veranda that served up the most incredible views (the owner wasn't wrong when he said you could pretty much live on the veranda - we did!). Waking up everyday to the most beautiful view of the sea and the beach was great for the soul. And ending each day with the most spectacular sunsets and a sky bursting with stars was incredible (the Skywalk app was in full use as we wanted to know what each star and constellation was!)
The perfect blend of pool, beach and excursions (courtesy of Aman) kept everyone entertained for two whole weeks. We had so many amazing experiences from jumping into crystal clear rivers from rope swings to eating some of the best jerk pork to having a bonfire on the beach. Visiting the Pelican Bar, YS Falls and driving through St Elizabeth took us to another world.
But what really made this holiday a holiday with a difference were the amazing people we had the fortune to meet, who treated us as their guests and who gave us a true taste of Jamaica - in particular we'd like to thank Aman, Miss Laura, Miss Jenny and Calvin and also Shane, Ritchie and OShayne and the fabulous children of Treasure Beach with their smiles and energy. Treasure Beach and Rainbow Tree offers an unspoilt view of the world and has definitely made us start 2014 with a 100% positive outlook on life - love and respect x
