LUXURY HOME NR ATLANTIC OCEAN FOR GROUPS/FAMILY. DOONBEG LINKS GOLF.

County Clare House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

Luxury home with fully-equipped kitchen/dining area, lounge and relaxation areas. It has 5 bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 people. PLUS, beside the house, you also have detached multi-use accommodation, which makes it unique (available from August 2012) and means that it can also be used for everything from group meetings to family get-togethers. The extra detached accommodation includes a kitchenette, table and chairs, presentation facilities, large screen and can also sleep two people.

The house is set on peaceful grounds with front garden and a large back garden with patio and BBQ area. It is spacious and bright with all modern facilities. It includes free WiFi. There is private off-road parking for cars and boat or trailer.

The location of the house in the center of West Clare makes it ideal for a wide range of breaks. It’s a place to detox away from the hustle & hassle of modern living. Drive short distances in any direction and you’ll discover incredible seascapes and landscapes – areas perfect for exploration, activities and enjoyment.

It is best suited to families or groups of up to 10 people and is perfect for leisure and activity enthusiasts, golfers, anglers, water-lovers, business strategists, team-building, retreats, writers, photographers, artists and wildlife and nature-lovers.

If You Love Beaches: explore the Wild Atlantic Coastline with beautiful beaches at Doonbeg (20 min away), Quilty (24 min), Spanish Point (28 min), Kilkee (30 min) and Lahinch (40 min).

If You Love Nature: West Clare is a special place for wildlife and bird watchers. The Loop Head Peninsula is a designated European Destination of Excellence for Aquatic Tourism. The Peninsula drive starts 20 minutes from the house – and you’ll experience incredible land and seascapes on the circular route, from the Bridges of Ross to the Loop Head Lighthouse. The Shannon Estuary is home to over 100 dolphins - Ireland’s only known resident population and you can take a dolphin-watching boat trip from either Kilrush Marina (20 min) or from Carrigaholt. The world-famous Cliffs of Moher are less than 60 min away as is the Burren National Park - a limestone area where rivers flow underground and rare flora blooms. As you travel through these unique areas, thousands of years of history will unfold before you through castles, towers, ancient monuments and burial sites. Some monuments in this area are older than the pyramids! Nature takes you back even further in time and the caves in Clare, including the Aillwee and Doolin showcaves, are over one million years old (great for visits too!).

If You Love Activity And The Great Outdoors: you can take to the cycling trails, to local walks or beach walks. The cliff walks at Kilkee and at Loop Head are REALLY spectacular! If you are a golfer, you can play at the world-rated Doonbeg Golf Links (20 min). Designed by legendary golfer Greg Norman, it spans 1.5 miles of crescent shaped beach and features century-old sand dunes. Lahinch, a legendary golf links, is less that 40 min away and there are several other golf courses within easy reach.

If You Are Into Water Activities: the beaches provide endless opportunities for enjoyment. Kilkee, a blue flag beach, is perfect for swimming and is one of Ireland’s safest. The best surfing is at Lahinch and a number of schools there provide lessons or coaching for all ages and abilities. Beneath the Cliffs of Moher is probably the world’s biggest surfing wave named ‘Aileens’. It can reach heights of up to 50 feet but does not break unless the elements of wind, tide and swell combine for perfect conditions (it’s not for amateurs or the faint hearted!). Kilkee is great for diving and the late Jacques Cousteau rated it the finest diving spot in Europe. Kilkee also offers kayaking, canoeing, sailing and other water-sports – and you can take beginner lessons or advanced coaching with all equipment provided. Sea, game and coarse fishing can all be enjoyed in West Clare. Knockalough Lake is 5 minutes from the house and holds a good stock of brown trout. If you want more exciting fishing, you can try shore angling or shark fishing off the Peninsula!

Horse Riding: Ireland is famous for its horses and horse riding is available near Kilrush at the West Clare Equestrian Center. It provides lessons for all levels – from beginner to advanced and for both children and adults. There are beautiful scenic treks in the area as well.

Other Highlights include great restaurants and pubs – many serving locally caught fish. The pubs warmly welcome visitors and have regular music and singsong sessions. Traditional Irish nights feature regularly.

Ennis, the capital of the County, is just over 20 minutes away and is well worth a visit. It’s a bustling town which dates back to 1240 and is famous for its quaint narrow streets, shopping and for its music.

Day Trips – the Killimer Car Ferry is less than 30 min from the house and takes you across the Shannon Estuary to Tarbert in Co. Kerry in just 20 minutes. From there you can take in Ballybunion (famous for golf) or Killarney. Limerick City is less than 60 minutes away and Galway less than 90 minutes away. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, on of Ireland’s top visitor attractions, is within 45 minutes.

Travel Tip: Shannon International Airport, with services from the United States, Europe and the UK is less than 45 minutes from the house and all the major car hire companies are located there. Cork Airport is 2 hours and 30 minutes away and Dublin Airport 3 hours and 15 min.

When you book the house we’ll send you our very own insider’s guide notes to the area and can give you insights and tips depending on your interests.

Fabulous Accommodation!

  • 5 of 5
I travelled with my husband, brother, and cousins (7 people in our party) to West Clare, Ireland in Aug. 2014. We had the great pleasure of staying at Doonbeg River House in Kilmihil for a week and it was the perfect base for exploring County Clare. The house is removed from the town centre, which makes for peaceful, beautiful, pastoral surroundings, but close enough to make trips into Kilmihil and nearby towns easy. The house is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, with plenty of towels and bedding. It is bright, airy and spacious and is decorated in a lovely way. There are 2 full bathrooms (one with soaker tub and separate shower, and a 2nd one with shower) in the main house and another full bathroom (with shower) in the Poet's Lodge accommodation just a step across the driveway. The Poet's Lodge was a great place for one of my cousins who liked to retire early and rise very early and was able to do so without disturbing others in our party. The house is thoroughly modern, with excellent water pressure and includes all dishes, pots, cutlery, televisions, free Wi-Fi, printer, etc. There is even a selection of books and movies for those evenings when you may choose to stay in. The main living area (kitchen, dining room, and living room) is open concept and very bright. The kitchen is well-equipped with coffee makers, kettle, dishwasher, stove/oven, and fridge. Bedrooms are roomy and very comfortable. The views from the back of the house (and the kitchen window) are lovely. The gardens are beautiful and well-kept and are a relaxing place to sit in the morning with coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine. Marian, the local property manager, is a wonderful person to deal with and was extremely helpful in every way. She even went out of her way to assist when one of our bags was delayed by the airline and had to be delivered by courier to the house. There was a vase of fresh flowers waiting when we first arrived--a lovely welcome! I would highly recommend Doonbeg River House to anyone looking for accommodation in the West Clare area. It is particularly well suited to larger parties. All in our party look forward to a return visit to this beautiful house.

Absolutely The Best

  • 5 of 5
We picked the Doonbeg River House for our ever expanding family reunions.
The pictures are spot on, it is a beautiful home. As previously stated, very clean, no shortage of linens or towels. Wine and flowers, greatly appreciated. We can't thank Marian enough for her help with the lost luggage and the emergency meds ! Claire was brilliant to work with.
Definitely in our plans to make a return visit.

Excellent holiday home

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at the beginning of July to beautiful sunshine. The house was far better than we expected. As a family of 8 the large house and Poet's Lodge were ideal. Marian met us and gave us tour of the house - a great lady, very helpful and only a phone call away if we needed her. Our grandchildren were able to play safely in the beautiful gardens whilst we all relaxed in the quiet atmosphere and stunning surroundings. We would recommend this house and are planning a return trip.

June Weekend 2014

  • 5 of 5
Three friends together with their families spent a fantastic long weekend in this gorgeous house. The welcome pack in the house which included wine, scones and ice creams for the kids was a lovely touch. The country setting and the fabulous gardens are perfect for relaxing in and the house itself is stunning and so well equipped for large groups. The teenagers enjoyed the independence the studio gave them and there were plenty of chill out spaces in the main house for everyone to enjoy some quiet! Day trips to Kilkee and Doonbeg kept everyone happy too. Don't leave without having some of the local brown soda bread in the village. . .

Excellent House in a good location

  • 5 of 5
The house is a hidden gem. The traditional exterior hides a modern well appointed dormer bungalow with great facilities. Up to 10 people can be comfortably accommodated with 4 bedrooms in the main house and a separate apartment on site. My kids loved the mezzanine office and tv room. The house was well equipped and the care taker made sure we had everything we needed when we arrived.

The house is well located within easy driving distance of all the main attractions in County Clare including the Ailwee Caves, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Burren.

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5
Have just returned from a weekend trip with a group of 10 people. We were all unanimous that the house was stunning and had everything a guest could need. The house is fresh, bright and airy. The kitchen was fully stocked with every utensil you could need, there was plenty of fresh clean linen and towels. The house was immaculate when we arrived (and hopefully when we left). Even as we were leaving we were planning our next trip. I highly recommend this house for your stay in Co. Clare.
