New to the rental market as of July 2012, Chez Nous Deux is at the end of a private association peninsula and has views of Hog Island, where bald eagles nest. We have our own private dock and river frontage leading to the Atlantic Ocean downriver approximately 15 miles. There is a deck that encompasses the back of the house and overlooks the river and dock with a Westerly perspective, thus providing spectacular sunsets at cocktail hour. You can watch the 'Oyster Girl' boat, pluck world-famous Pemaquid Oysters (oysters served in the local restaurants), right in front of our house. A Sunroom has similar views and contains a large flat-screen TV with Cable, a telescope and binoculars. There is wireless high-speed Internet access as well.
We are in walking or kayaking distance of the town of Damariscotta, and the Regional Hospital and Emergency room are even closer.
Chez Nous Deux is newly decorated, including furniture, paint and pine floors. Its location is perfect for taking in all the activities nearby including whale watching, kayaking from our dock, swimming, viewing the galleries, shops, and restaurants in Damariscotta, spending the day on Monhegan Island (artist colony), watching the eagles on Hog Island or in our trees as you have your morning coffee(if you hear the resident crows cawing its probably because there is an eagle in one of our tall pine trees that line the waterfront), golfing at one of the nearby courses, fishing on a chartered fishing boat, enjoying lobsters, oysters (Made easier with our restaurant designed shucker) and steamers dunked in butter, attending an antiques auction, meandering down to Bristol Mills to the swimming hole or visiting the picturesque towns of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden 27 miles North or Boothbay Harbor 15 miles. We have a guide book in the house that you can peruse to decide your day's activities or just kickback in the sunroom or deck and enjoy nature and the peace and quiet.
We are a retired couple who live in Walnut Creek, CA and Damariscotta, ME. Tom worked 47 years in Banking and retired in 2010 from the bank he founded in 1989. Jennifer retired from Kaiser, where she was Compliance Manager after working more than 40 years in the healthcare industry. We rent our Damariscotta home when we are not there.

We bought our home in Damariscotta after vacationing in the area for seven years. We wanted a home facing West for sunsets and that was on the water. When we walked in at 5:00 p.m. With our real estate agent and saw the sunset, we were sold. We have loved every minute since!
Chez Nous Deux is unique because it offers almost complete privacy, bordered on two sides by the Damariscotta River and private Association land, while being close to town and on the waterfront. The neighbor on one other side cannot be seen, and the other neighbor is at a lower lever and can only be partially viewed.
Our house is not a cottage, but a fully equipped home with all amenities (see reviews). We are very service-oriented and do our best to make sure your stay is one of your best ever!

My husband and I rented this home for six weeks so that we could experience Damariscotta Village and the Pemaquid Peninsula in the winter. This home was a perfect choice as it is conveniently located near the village, it is extremely private, spacious and well stocked. The beds are very comfortable and the linens were clean and soft. We especially enjoyed waking up every morning to a beautiful view, and we had a special treat of watching two eagles build their nest from tree limbs just outside our bedroom window. The owners of this home could not be more accommodating and friendly! We were curious as to what would be going on in the area in the winter and we were so happy to find that there were not enough days in the week to enjoy all the winter activities the area offers. We would certainly recommend this property.
As vacation renters in the area for close to 20 years, and with family nearby in Walpole, we arrived here with lots of plans for our week. This house is PERFECT in terms of location, comfort, and "essence of Maine". We couldn't have felt more at home. Love the river and kayaked every day. There was a seal just off the end of the dock one morning, and he swam around for about 15 minutes. Birds abound- cormorants, gulls, ospreys.

Another thing that brings us back every year is the World-class Salt Bay Chamberfest held every August in the Darrows Barn at D.R.A. Offices next to Round Top Ice Cream. Chamber music at its best!
Shopping suggestions- Granite Hall Store in Round Pond, Maine Coast Bookstore, Reny's, Weatherbird, Star Jewelers in town, and Sheepscot/ Edgecomb Pottery.
For kids: Monkey C, Monkey Do, Dolphin Mini Golf, Boothbay Railway, Workshops at D.R.A, Camp Mummichog, and drop-in at the YMCA.

Had one of our best Maine vacations EVER the week we stayed at Chez Nous Deux this past August. The house is spacious and really comfortable with a deck that faces West on the River, and there’s access to the water, too. The location could not be better – scenic and remote-feeling, but also close to a very cool Midcoast town. From this vantage point we had a fine time exploring the Pemaquid Peninsula – its charms are many. For instance, there’s the idyllic sea-side hamlet of New Harbor with ferry access to Monhegan Island (a sojourn not to be missed); pristine and sandy Pemaquid Beach; the classic rock-bound Pemaquid Point Lighthouse; Dodge Point Preserve. Other great day-trips we ventured: Camden Hills State Park and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor. For dining out, here’s a few of the restaurants we enjoyed: King Eider’s Pub, and Schooner Landing in Damariscotta; Anchor Inn of Round Pond; and Pemaquid Fisherman’s Coop for the freshest lobster-with-a-view, all close and accessible. Great memories, but alas! Not enough time…would love to come back, if only for more wine & cheese sunsets on the house’s beautiful deck! And…rarely have we encountered an owner like Tom, so concerned with our enjoyment. A special experience.
The place was fantastic, and the owner was more than helpful before and during our stay. It is on the end of a peninsula on the Damariscotta River - exceptionally quiet and very close to town. Also, it is centrally located with easy day trips to Boothbay, Camden, Portland, etc. We went with our two sons (ages 2 and 4) and dog, and they all loved it - jumping off the dock, kayaking, fishing, and watching the sunsets from the deck (and no bugs while we were there!). The house is very spacious and recently re-done in a great style, with everything you could need. We would highly suggest this house to anyone who has a family and looking for a centrally located mid-coast Maine vacation house. We will definitely go again.
We stayed here and had one of the most delightful and restfull vacations ever.The house was very clean, inviting and had that "home" touch.The sunroom and expansive deck were so peaceful, it was hard to leave! If you wake to crows cawing loudly, it is probably because there is a bald eagle in one of our trees. Please be respectful so they will return every year to nest on Hog Island.
