GREAT ESCAPE IN THE CENTER OF FUN!

FALL IS PERFECTION IN WEST MICHIGAN

YOUR COLOR TOUR STARTS HERE!!!

Bluffton Dune Hideaway

Take advantage of this beautifully restored and freshly appointed 700 sq ft 1 bed/1 bath cottage hidden high on a dune in popular Bluffton area of Muskegon. 1 queen and 1 futon comfortably sleep four in this newly rehabbed early 1900's logging hut. Parking at street level then climbing 50 steps up to the Hideaway will start your best vacation ever. Wake up to a relaxed, open kitchen with breakfast bar and adjoining courtyard. Shower with a skylight looking up into the tree canopy, makes you feel like you're in a waterfall! Living room opens up kitchen, dining room, and enclosed porch that extends the width of the house. Bedroom and bathroom sit off of the main room. Our pictures best describe the layout. Seasonal views of Muskegon Lake showcase the scenic nature of this property. Washer/Dryer. Pet free-Smoke free rental.

FALL

Our 2 night stays include 3 full days of fun. Come early and stay late..you won't want to leave. We provide bikes...bike path down at street level takes you around the perimeter of Muskegon Lake. Welcome Kit at arrival helps you plot your adventures.

SUMMER

With just a five minute walk to sun and fun on the big beautiful clean beach at Pere Marquette or one block to drop your kayak in Muskegon Lake, you will love this area for all of your summer outdoor recreation. Leave your car behind and either walk or bike to neighborhood stores, eateries, and the cross-lake ferry to Wisconsin for a day trip.

This is your spot for your summer fun...whether its kayaking, sailing, paddleboarding either lake or biking on the trail just below the cottage. Unique rehabbed logging hut sits high on a dune gives you a bird's eye view of the great little enclave called Bluffton. Its a little like 'Swiss Family Robinson' without the pirates!! Ideally located, Muskegon has the best beaches and parks around. Quaint towns of Whitehall and Grand Haven are each a 20 minute drive respectively north or south.

The Hideaway can be rented alone or as part of 2 adjacent properties on the downside of the dune. This is not your typical cottage. Its compact and comfortable. Impeccably clean and natural. Kayaking and paddleboarding are just 5 minutes away at either Lake Michigan or Muskegon Lake. If hiking and biking is your gig, the path runs right past the cottage. It doesn't get any easier. When you are done with your day, relax to the sounds of summer. Do it all or do nothing at all...read a good book ...write your first short story in the screened back porch high up on the forested dune.....absorb the nature and paint that scene .... we provide the books, the paper, the canvas. This place is so AWESOME you will LOVE IT!!

Lovely little cottage on the dune

  • 5 of 5
This is one of those reviews I don't really want to write, because I don't want anyone else to find out about this cottage. But I also want to let people know how happy I was with my stay, and the owner certainly deserves the business. My best friend and I stayed at this sweet little cottage for a girl's getaway weekend. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and Jo, the owener, made us feel like old friends she was welcoming to town. Muskegon was very nice and the beach at Pere Marquette park was absolutely beautiful! We really couldn't have asked for a more comfortable cottage or more accomodating host. I will definitely be back!

Above and away from it all

  • 5 of 5
This place was amazing and so are the owners. First time in Muskegon, and it was just amazing. Owners left us lots of info on things to do in the area, food, stores, tours of ships, lighthouses, there was so much info on stuff to do in the area, you would need like a week to do it all. It was so relaxing in the front yard, you felt like you were in a tree house. It made you fell above and away from it all. The cottage was very clean with a basket of goodies waiting for us when we got in. There is truth in advertising, this place was perfect. On a scale of 1 to 10, owner is a 15, cottage is a 13, would love to stay at this little slice of heaven up in the trees again.

Wonderful Cottage and an Amazing Owner!!!

  • 5 of 5
My family of 4 stayed in this adorable cottage on top of the dune and had a great time. As my children stated, it’s a bit tiny but that gave us the opportunity to spend more time together, since that’s what a family vacation is all about!!! The owner was extremely accommodating and provided us with absolutely everything we needed. Since we were new to the area we worried that we would be a bit unprepared however, the owner made sure that we had everything we needed to have a wonderful time. There were games, bikes, beach toys, beach umbrella and chairs plus a whole lot more that I would have never of thought to have brought.
The beach is very clean, the people were very friendly and there were plenty of restaurant choices around to keep everyone happy. Muskegon is growing but it isn’t too touristy that the beaches are overly crowded and you have to fight to get a table to eat out.
The cottage was nicely renovated and was stocked with everything you would have in your own home. The owner was available whenever we had a question and provided us with information that helped us navigate the city. We will definitely be coming back!!!

Fabulous hospitality and great cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5
Wonderful stay and the hospitality was over the top. We made last minute plans for the 4th of July and lucked upon this place (last minute cancellation by someone else). Jo, the owner, was wonderful and very accommodating. She left us a basket of snacks, all kinds of literature about things to do and the goings on in the area, menus of the various restaurants along with her two cents about the restaurant. Anything you wanted, she'll go out of her way to accommodate you. You can walk to the nice Muskegon beach (the sunset is a must). She left us a wagon to drag all of our stuff to the beach, a couple bicycles which we didn't take advantage of and lots of other games to have fun with. The place was perfect, one bed room, renovated kitchen with new appliances. Short walk to the other lake as well, down the back steps. Our kids had a blast and my wife and I had a nice relaxing extended weekend. Many lazy mornings drinking coffee and enjoying the bungalow. We did some day trips to Grand Haven and to Pere Marquette state park, as we wanted to explore the area. Definitely coming back!

Beautiful adventure

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at the Hideaway and felt instantly at home! The owner, Jo, made sure everything was perfect! The cottage is very comfortable and modern. We had a feeling of complete privacy up on the top of the dune, and the view and breezes from the look-out area with adirondack chairs was heavenly. The house is really close to everything. We walked down to the Lake Michigan beach and also spent some time kayaking out from Muskegon Lake. We enjoyed the bike trail which led us to some cool spots on Lakeshore Drive. Jo made sure we had bikes to use for the week. We want to come back and do more exploring this summer. This little cottage is a gem!

Cute cottage close to the beach

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I went there for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We were welcomed upon our arrival by the doe in the pictures! It's very cozy, clean, and well- furnished. We really enjoyed the decor and the overall ambiance of the cottage. We also appreciated the gift the owner left for us - it was very thoughtful!
It is within walking distance of the beach. We went during late fall though so it was rather chilly but still worth it! Fall is a quiet time for the area, which was fine by us since we were there for a getaway more than anything else.
My only comments that someone who is thinking of staying here may want to keep in mind are the following:
There aren't curtains in the front room. There are huge windows overlooking the hill and other homes but no curtains. It was kind of strange to be honest to think that someone could see my husband and I cuddling on the couch.
The shower is very, very short and small. I am by no means tall (only 5"5') and had to practically duck and boy was it uncomfortable for shaving! I recommend shaving at home before you go! ;) This would probably not be well-suited for someone really tall (or large). Also, no tub. Just a shower.
Neither of these were deal breakers though. Just an FYI.
Even given these quirks (which all older homes have), we would go back. We really enjoyed it and had such a wonderful time there. It felt as if we belonged. =)
