The description and information listed about Sea Watch is spot on-so I am giving you OUR thoughts rather than repeating information. WE LOVED OUR STAY. This was our second visit to Sea Watch. We were there in December of 2013 which was a little too early to whale watch. But this year we saw 30-50 whales. The highlight being a whale so close to the house we could hear it breath!
Sea Watch is a home whose back door is 90 feet from the ocean and you can hear the melody of waves breaking on rocks day and night.
The home itself is very nicely maintained and extremely clean. The house is very bright and cheery. The ocean views out the back of the house are great-on a windy day you can have sea spray reach the back door!
We rent property to be on the ocean-not 1 street away from the ocean and Sea Watch definitely meets our needs. Fishing poles are available (in the closet) if you want to step out the backdoor and try your luck.
The owner "Sam" is very nice and very responsible to your needs. If you have a problem she will solve it. We had the TV stop working one evening. Sam came over and tried to get the set to work. After failed efforts she was going to buy a new TV set right then so we could watch TV that night! What other Property Manager does that?
We enjoyed the house and its location so much that we would sight see a day and then stay at Sea Watch the alternate day.
An important feature of Sea Watch is that it is a premier property with a very reasonable rental rate!
First of all, let me say that everything mentioned in the description of the home:the description itself, the photos, the amenities...all are accurate. What you see and what you read about are exactly what you get...only so much more.Everything you would need has been provided. We felt at home the comment we walked into Sam's lovely home and met our gracious hostess who talked to us about the house. Her pertinent information made settling in so much easier.
Sea Watch has a magnificent ocean view and the sound of the surf breaking on the lava cliffs is unforgettable. After a day of sight-seeing, coming back to Sea Watch, sitting on the lanai and grilling fresh fish became our ritual. We so enjoyed the peace and the wild beauty of this home.
There were so many places such as the botanical gardens, black beach, volcano, and farmers' markets ( and so many more beautiful sights) to visit and enjoy. Or, just to stay at home for the day and have coffee outside and watch the brilliant sunrise over the ocean take a walk, buy fresh fish for dinner and just chill.
We highly recommend this home. Thanks again Sam for opening your beautiful home to us.We hope to return to it.
At Sea Watch Life is Good!!
We felt at home the minute we opened the door and entered Sea Watch the first time. The view was breathtaking – as there was nothing between us and the ocean – The house was clean and very inviting with a lovely open layout and great ocean views from the living/dining areas, kitchen, master bedroom and shower! When we walked out of the sliding glass doors onto the lovely large lanai all we could hear was the sound of the surf crashing against the lava wall – it was both powerful and soothing. Imagine being lulled to sleep by the that sound...
The house was comfortable and super clean -- very easy to call home. The kitchen was well stocked with small appliances, cooking utensils, spices, assorted dishes and pantry items. The extra pillow top for the master bed added to our comfort.
During our stay in early June, we were able to watch the sunrise over the ocean each morning and have breakfast on the lanai in complete privacy. It only rained lightly for short periods of time – and never interfered with our plans. We enjoyed our visits to Volcano National Park (about an hour drive), Richardson Beach and the wonderful farmer's markets in both Hilo and nearby Pahoa on Sunday.
Samantha (the owner) carefully maintains the property and did her best to anticipate all of our needs. And although she happened to be away during our stay, she was very accessible, offering us lots of useful information to insure our visit was both comfortable and carefree. She made this the perfect "home" for our vacation – and we find ourselves longing to return. Warmest Aloha
My wife and I stayed at Sea Watch in June of 2014. This wonderful house is literally right on the ocean. We were about 40 feet from the water setting 30 feet about the pounding surf and could feel the salt spray at times.
The house was very spacious and had every amenity you would ever need. Sam was right next door to answer any questions and concerns I we had any. The great thing about renting a place like this instead of staying in a hotel room is the many extras you have in the form of maps and books about the island and all of its many treasures. I would recommend this as a perfect place to get away and relax and let the ocean lull you to sleep.
I choose to stay at Sea Watch for our vacation but the pictures, as amazing as they are, do not do it justice. My 2 favorite times of the day were my morning coffee where I could wander around on the lava rock in the backyard and listen to the waves and when we got home from our outings. This house needs to be experienced in person - the sunrises are spectacular and inspiring, the waves powerful against the lava rock cliffs yet lulling you to sleep, the marine life (dolphins and whales) giving you a peek into their world. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we have had and would love to come back. It is not only that just about everything is provided for you in this home away from home but also the lovely touches of flowers and gladly accepted offers of home made ice cream. Sam is so very responsive to any questions or requests and so touchingly thoughtful. This home is wonderfully central on the east side of the Big Island to the Hamakua coast and points north, and south to Volcano. There is so much to do on this side and staying here allowed us to do more in-depth exploring of the wonderful towns, beaches and waterfalls on this side. We will be saving our pennies to come back and soon!
My wife and I rent nearly exclusively from VRBO listings when we travel. We've stayed in houses from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Palm Spring,s CA and Whistle,r B.C. and so on. Sea Watch was beautiful and just like the pictures on the site. The view was incredible - making coffee while looking out over volcanic rock to the crashing sea is a vacation memory of a life time. The owners do live next door but they are not intrusive. The welcome book is GREAT giving a lot of location information and helpful tips. As a homeowner in California, I can appreciate the rules and explanations for the property (such as why they ask you to close all windows when the tropical rains fall etc.), and the house was the most well appointed VRBO we have stayed in- complete with sharp kitchen knives! There are beach towels and plenty of cups, ziplock bags, coolers to borrow and even a rain slicker for the unpredictable but totally enchanting down pours! The community this house is in is quiet and friendly and at night you can see a million stars because of the lack of light pollution. I wasn't wild about having to wash and dry the bedsheets and towels. I can understand starting the wash and having the cleaning staff finish it. It's a small peeve of mine given I pay a cleaning fee, however, this tiny bit of work is a tiny complaint compared to the extraordinary value of staying at this house.
