About Richard

Hello, We're from Kingwood, TX. With our son away to college and our daughter out in the working world as a nurse, we're now empty nesters. On the other hand, our daughter recently gave us our first grandchild!

I grew up only a couple of hours away and was fortunate enough to spend time in Galveston at least once or twice a year. My husband is from North Carolina, but he got to Texas as quick as he could 20 years ago!

We both love to travel and have been to several countries and scenic spots over the years, but we keep returning to Galveston for the charm and laid back atmosphere. It's our little get away from it all place.

Richard purchased this house in 2012

Why Richard chose Galveston

We have been coming to Galveston to the beach for several years. But we recently realized that Galveston had so much more to offer than just its beaches which are nice. We began taking our bikes with us and started riding through all the Victorian Era neighborhoods, the Seawall, the Strand. Soon we started spending every weekend possible exploring the island and its rich history. We also found that staying in a house was much more relaxing than staying in a hotel. When we came across this adorable vintage 1889 Gulf Coast Style Cottage on a quiet street just around the corner from the Seawall, we knew it was a place that we would love to own. It has been so much fun putting our personal touches on it and finishing out the attic bed and bath rooms. We love the old wooden floors everywhere, the soaring high ceilings, and the beautiful little staircase leading up to the attic dorm rooms and we hope you do too!

Wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 7 loved our 3 night stay at Pelican Place. We had no trouble finding the house and no trouble getting in. The rooms were actually larger than the pictures led us to believe. Since we were a group of 3 couples and a single, we appreciated the 3 1/2 baths and their locations. We especially loved the large back porch with the retractable awning. We spent a lot of time there.

The home was extremely well-maintained and everything was very clean. It was well stocked with plenty of thick bath towels. The kitchen has been thoughtfully filled with all the equipment/tools we needed. Everybody agreed that they had great mattresses and therefore slept well.

The ONLY complaint came from the couple who stayed upstairs. The sun came in very early through the window in the upstairs bedroom and they were unable to sleep in on the one morning they had wanted to.

I hope to come here again as it was a perfect vacation home for large families.

By the way, we have been coming to Galveston for years and we ventured into a restaurant we have never gone into and wow. We ate at Benno's for Cajun seafood and everyone loved it. I even loved the cheeseburger( I hate seafood). We also got self-serve frozen yogurt at Orange Leaf and it was yummy.

AMAZING House!!

  • 5 of 5

I was really worried from the outside of the house that it was going to be really small but we got inside and boy was I WRONG!! The house is so large and roomy, the kitchen was very well equipped for anything you were cooking, it is decorated so cute and had everything we needed - it just felt like home!!! Lots of towels, the beds were comfortable and the back of the house with the awning were great for gathering. I highly recommend this house and if coming back to Galveston, will try and stay here again!!!

We had an amazing weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Everyone loved the house! There are a lot of little details that were included that aren't with most vacation homes, such as shower supplies being included and the bottle of wine was also a very thoughtful gesture. I also appreciated Richard getting to the house so quickly Saturday morning when we were having trouble with the fire alarm. You really do think of everything to make your guests stay as enjoyable as possible!

I was very impressed with the house. It was well kept and clean. Very nicely decorated. I specifically enjoyed the fenced back area as I have two small children. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a great Galveston getaway.

Great place for a lot of people to stay!

We had 4 generations staying at Pelican Place. Everyone had plenty of room. The house is decorated just like a home, very cozy. Nice walk to the beach, the Gálvez and the Pleasure Pier.
