Why Rickie Hall chose Bridgton

Those who truely know Maine, really know that Western Maine Lakes and Mountain Region is the best of Maine. Dakota Bear Lodge is 10 minutes from Bridgton Maine which is a peaceful, scenic, small town with an authentic Maine flavor. Nonetheless, it offers the amenities of a much larger metropolitan area including a state-of-the-art hospital and Hannaford Groceries, Magic Lantern Movies and Discount Shopping at Reny's.. Unlike other towns in Maine's Lake Region, Western Maine is the home of 100's of Lakes and Beaches for fun summer activies and also the home of Mountains and Snowmobile Trails for Winter Activies.

What makes this lodge unique

Calm, Tanquility and Privacy abound at Dakota Bear Lodge. Waking up to the sounds of the birds chirping is all that you will hear. You will never hear a car or any sounds other than Nature. The beauty of the Timberframe House, Log Exterior & Pine Forest along with a 100 mile view of the White Mountains makes you feel like you are one with the outdoors. See Shawnee Peak to your North and the White Mountains to your West and the rest is just pure view of Woodlands and Trees.Enjoy Family and Friends where time stands or curl up with a good book, hot coffee in hand, in front of the 25 Ft High Field Stone Fireplace on a cold wintery day with a roaring hot fire. Hiking Trails, Snow Mobile Trails on the Property along with Skiing just a few minutes away.

The Western Maine Mountains region spans most of Maine’s western border with New Hampshire. A small part of the scenic White Mountain National Forest is located in this area. This is essentially all of Oxford County and northern York County and Cumberland County. Notable towns include Bethel, Bridgton, Waterford, Sweden, Lovell, Naples, Albany, Oxford, Otisfield, Casco Rangeley, and Rumford. Many of the state's highest peaks are located in this region.

The area is known for its skiing, including Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Sunday River in Bethel, Black Mountain in Rumford, Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley and Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley.

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through this region, and the portion that passes through the region's Mahoosuc Notch is popularly considered by hikers to be the most difficult mile of the entire trail.

Western Maine is the land of hundreds of small and large lakes, rivers and streams makes Western Maine one of the most beautiful natural regions in New England. Recreational possibilities abound making this truly a four season opportunity to enjoy the awe-inspiring foliage views in the fall, skiing at one of the world renowned ski resorts in the winter and early spring to the hiking and fishing along wilderness trails in the clean refreshing air of a Western Maine summer. Boating, hiking, camping, golf, snowmobiling, you name it, it can be found in Western Maine.

Of course, if you're looking for something different to do, there are opportunities to enjoy llama trekking or digging in quarries for gemstones and minerals such as amethysts, tourmaline, garnet and topaz. You might even try your hand at panning for gold. The well-known Sebago-Long Lake area offers miles of boating and many lakefront activities including parasailing and windsailing. Sebago Lake may be Maine's second largest lake, but it has a small-time feel to it as there are numerous quiet inlets to explore. There are paddle boats and seaplane rides available at the Naples Causeway on Long Lake. The hand-operated Songo Locks, the only one remaining from 27 locks built in the 1830s, makes it possible to see the entire 42-mile waterway encompassing Sebago Lake, Songo River, Brandy Pond and Long Lake. The paddle wheeled Songo River Queen II is also a great way to see an upper portion of this waterway.

Family Vacation

5 of 5
Submitted: March 5, 2013 Stayed: February 2013
We had a wonderful family vacation at the Dakota Lodge. The comments that predate this are quite accurate and we echo the praise. The house is large and stunning. The property is well described on the website and the photos are excellent for planning room assignments. The setting is extremely private and the view is incredible. The owners [we met Ricky.... thank you!] have spared no expenses in furnishing this home with everything you need. The kitchen is highly functional for serving a large group. We found it difficult to leave the property because it was so comfortable. Our family found it nice to simply relax and enjoy the view. At a minimum, we will return annually but would love to try it in the summer season as well.

Our family of ten (including our dog) spent a weekend in January at Dakota Bear Lodge near Bridgton Maine and we had such a wonderful time that I can't say enough about how pleased we were with the experience. The house is set with a view of the White Mountains which is gorgeous, peaceful and so private. You feel as if you're the only people on the mountainside. Beautiful views of mountains surround you and the sunsets were amazing each evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole house, especially the fireplaces, outdoor fire pit, and sauna. The owners promised an outdoor hot tub would be coming soon. We were even able to see the surrounding mountains at night, and the sun sets behind the mountains with a western view. The home is quite spacious and provided our whole family with their own room and privacy. Even the dog had an outdoor kennel with an insulated dog house to keep her warm when we left for a couple hours!!! The owners thought of everything!!! The wood burning stove in the basement and the theater area was so warming along with the fireplace in the living room...The owners, Rickie and Lorraine, were very friendly and quick to respond to all our questions and needs during our stay. The kitchen was so fully stocked with all of our kitchen needs. The house is decorated like out of a magazine…one of the owners is an interior designer and it looks like a truly upscale Maine theme. Another great feature of this home is the trail that we used for snow shoeing but also noticed that it is a snowmobile trail. This trail leads to the deep forest with many trails to follow and many animal tracks to try to identify in the snow. Dakota Bear Lodge is truly a diamond in the ruff….We highly recommend it to any travelers!!!

Dakota Lodge was amazing! Warm, cozy, homey, well laid out, immaculate, well equipped, private, quiet, and very spacious. Incredibly large windows all around to capture the view which was extraordinary with mountains, a ski slope, view of a lake, and the sunsets were magnificent! Took a nice hike on one of the many snowmobile trails that are available. Ping pong was available. Also had a great table for many to play cards with the fireplace going making it very cozy.
This is a place you definitely want to go back to, the owner was very accommodating and so friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great Get A Way, vacation, family outing, honeymoon, or retreat.

My family and I recently stayed at the lodge. We were looking for something to accommodate 10-12 people comfortably and the lodge was a perfect fit with more room to spare. At first glance I was sold! The pictures are amazing but to see it in real time was breathtaking. The location was perfect also. There was plenty to do within a half hour away. The view from the deck was amazingly spectacular to say the least.
I would highly recommend staying at the lodge and look forward to my next trip to Maine.
The owner was very helpful. She met us there and gave us a grand welcoming tour and filled us in on the surroundings.
Thank You so much----
