Very quiet area. No theme parks, roller coasters, kiddie parks, etc. Shopping within 30-45 minutes; trips to Carrabelle, Wakulla, Apalachicola, East Point, Tallahassee are popular. Deep sea fishing boats leave from several local marinas. Wonderful restaurants within 15 minutes drive. Fishing from surf in front of the house this year yielded Spanish mackerel, flounder, whiting, and Redfish.
Area:
Alligator Point is a narrow spit of land about 4 miles long. Most maps don't list it. Years ago, the area was called 'Lighthouse Point' before it was developed. Our house is at the most narrow part, thus the gulf-to-bay location. Our back yard is the Gulf of Mexico; our front yard is Alligator Bay. Nice easy 200 yard sand path to the beach....the bay is accessible in the front of the house and there is actually a nice little white sand beach there too.
Highway 98 is the main highway that runs along the coast. Alligator Drive (Highway 370) cuts down to the peninsula just west of the big bridge over Ochlocknee Bay. Light shopping is available within 15 minutes of the house.
