Wonderful family house fully furnished with all the amenities that you would expect in your own home. Built in 1904 and beautifully restored. Home has nice architectural details such as original plaster moulding, heart-pine hardwood floors, french doors opening to a wonderful porch where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and experience new orleans like a new orleanian !!! Charming home in a classic neighborhood that is convenient to so many attractions such as Audubon park/zoo/golf course/tennis courts. The st. charles ave. street car is a short 3 block walk. Historic Magazine st. is only 6 blocks. Very convenient area with easy access to uptown (Tulane & Loyola universities), carrollton/riverbend, downtown/warehouse district & the historic garden district and french quarter. Hundreds of restaurants within a few minutes. The bedrooms are independent (THIS IS NOT A SHOTGUN HOUSE) and there is a sofa bed which allows for 2 more to sleep (house sleeps 6 total). washer/dryer is inside for your convenience. Home has a fully equipped kitchen with all appropriate cooking utensils, microwave, coffee pot and blender.

My husband and I have been married for 10 years and have 3 young children, 6 yrs.,4 yrs., and 1 yr. we have had the pleasure of staying in countless B & B's, VRBO's and cabins. This property is hands down a 5-star experience. All the sheets, towels, linens, pillows and kitchen equipment are brand new. The house is as clean as it can be and best of all, it is clutter-free. Simply elegant and not meant for the Bourbon Street Rebel Rouser. True New Orleans Architecture. Great location!,

Classic NOLA Flair

Our multi-week stay in this property met all of our high expectations. We've rented several fine houses in NOLA, and this house delivered more fun than any of the others. The two outdoor amenities can't be topped: a spacious front porch for lounging, plus the substantial attraction of a covered outdoor grill and dining area in the expansive backyard. Inside, the high ceilings, beautiful crown molding and fine wood floors are highlighted by fabulous light throughout the house. The large, well appointed dining room complements the fully equipped kitchen. And the lagniappe is Steve, the attentive owner, who will do whatever it takes to maximize your stay. Do not give a second thought to the prior reviewer who suggested that this neighborhood lacks security. He or she clearly knows nothing about NOLA -- anyone who does knows that this is one of the very nicest and safest areas of the entire city or of any city. You'll love your stay in Uptown.

Great restored Victorian and fabulous experience!

I had the pleasure and good fortune to find and stay in this treasure of a home! It is quite nice both inside and out. The style and decor is appealing and perfect for the New Orleans experience. We truly felt connected with the city and Garden district environment. The tall ceilings and perfect decor made the stay memorable. I liked reading the good book on the table that summarizes Katrina's effect on the area which one cannot help but wonder about. The market across the street added so much convenience to the stay-they has everything from local Abita beer to our very own California wines! Steve is easily available and very helpful with good information for out of town folks like us. If we visit again this is where we will stay!

The good, the bad, the ugly

We are experienced users of VRBO and have had excellent experiences. This was not one of them. The positives - it's a vintage house in the garden district, across from a handy store and near the St. Charles streetcar. It is not inexpensive. We enjoyed the presence of something larger than a mouse (a rat? a raccoon) which invaded the kitchen taking 3 English Muffins and chewing on two more. The next night (all foods were in fridge) we heard the click of toenails on the floor. When you arrive you then hear that private security is hired to protect the manager and clients of the store across the street and that you can call a number to have an off-duty policemen meet you at the house when you return from your evening out. The house has neighbors only on 1 side. We made sure we ate dinner early and returned by 9pm. The linens need upgrading, the bedspread and sofa needs cleaning(?). The middle bathroom had no cold water at the sink and very little hot in the tub (about half full with a person sitting in it). There was no hand/bath soap we could find but there was a list of "cleaning" rules for when we left even though the cleaning fee was $125. We definitely felt that the owner should stay a night or two in his own property. We will definitely inquire whether our next VRBO is investor-owned.

When I tried to call the owner twice as we left the house to let him know some of our issues so he could correct them before the next tenant, his phone was not accepting messages so I gave up and he will (presumably) learn about them through this review.

Owner's Response: Wow, Linda I am so sorry that you had this experience. I have never had a bad review and I will certainly address all of those issues. I would like to clarify a few things however. First, the house is not located in the Garden district, it is considered uptown. Second, I do go in the house and I do stay there. I'm not sure why you wouldn't have cold or hot water.....makes no sense. There is a security guard service which you have access to 24/7 and I'm not really sure what the problem with that is. This is one of the reasons that the district is safer than others. I'm not really sure what your point is on that. The linens are one year old and I have cleaning lady's that come immediately after a guest leaves. I will certainly inspect all linens to see if your point is valid. There is an abundance of soap and shampoo and other bath articles under the sink in the master bath (in two large baskets) and a backup supply in the kitchen pantry. I'm not sure where you saw " a list of cleaning rules" because I really don't have any. I ask that you run the dishwasher with the dishwasher soap that I provide so it saves a little time if there is an abundance of dishes. The price charged for maid/cleaning service is the going rate. They are independent contractors so I have no control over that. I do come to the house before and after they clean so I know they do a very good job. I will certainly upgrade the linens if necessary. The property is not owned by some out-of-town investor. I am a realtor and I live here. I take pride in the property and I do whatever I need to do to please my guests. My reputation in this city is very important to me. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be responding. I am sorry you had a bad experience and couldn't reach me by phone. Other than those issues, I hope you enjoyed New Orleans. I will certainly do whatever it takes to make your stay a pleasant one should you decide to return !!

Great House in a nice neighborhood

We stayed at this wonderful house for a girls weekend. It is a very comfortable, clean home, with a beautiful patio out back and a front porch to sit on. The location was great; we were able to walk to restaurants and shops, or take the street car downtown. It is nicely decorated and well stocked with things you need! Thanks for a great stay. We will stay again when we return to NOLA.

Best Stay Yet in NOLA

We have never rented a home in NOLA before, and now we think it is the only way to go. We enjoyed the city so much more being in a beautiful neighborhood where we could enjoy walking past charming homes to great boutiques and restaurants. The house was just as pictured, and the high ceilings, pickled wood floors, big windows and attractive furnishings made it such a unique and lovely property. It was also very quiet, and our children loved going across the street to Lauenstein's for snacks and treats. Loved La Petite Grocery for lunch.
