I have rented this property 2 or 3 times already and it has served our family's purposes. If you are seeking a place off the main roads and a lot of distance between any neighbors for privacy and getting back to a true natural surrounding, this is it ! It is near the end of a gravel road into a very old "Appalachian family owned" valley. Being a small business owner (remodeling contractor) it gives me a way to get away from constant customer business demands 7 days a week on me and relax, and is only a 1 1/2 hours from my home to reach.
If you make it to the top rear corner of the property, the old barbed wire fence property line has some massive (approx. 200 year old) oak trees as old settlers actually used to mark their boundaries that way; and you can see the ridgelines of the mountains bordering Tennessee and North Carolina going into Virginia too. And if you are up there during a weather change or fog, it can become a very spooky experience having fog roll up and over the ridgetops and through those old massive oak trees.
I personally have enjoyed it as a way to get out into the woods with my sons and an area that is not commercially developed in anyway. A rustic experience overall.
The round house was a wonderful, peaceful getaway, nestled in the countyside close to Boone. My family and I loved relaxing on the back deck with the soothing sounds of the nearby stream. It was the perfect country setting, with horses right in the back yard. The kids loved seeing them right outside the window, and while we had meals on the deck.
We found the house adequately equipped with towels and kitchen accesories. The grill was very easy to use.
There was so much to do in the area, we had a hard time choosing. Ultimately, we decided on going to The Hebron Rock Colony. It was a wonderful hike with the kids, we had a picinic lunch on one of the large boulders. The Tanger Outlets had awesome deals for that avid shopper, and the Original General Store had the coolest candy shop in it!
We really enjoyed hiking the mountain out back, and just hanging around the house playing pool and ping pong.
One tip I would have found helpful is to stop by the grocery store, or Walmart on the way in. There is a store at the close to the house that has some basic needs and groceries, but if you realised you forgot something it is best to stop on the way in. It was 30 min away from Walmart. Also, the cell phone service at the house is almost non-existant, so if there is anyone you need to reach, give them the house number so they can call you.
Overall, my family and I had a wonderful time, and we look forward to coming back to the Roundhouse the next time we come to the area.
Overall, I have to say the owner was easy to contact and the property generally is as described. A few minor qlitches happened when we arrived, but nothing I could not repair easily for the owner.
However, it is a sloping property with majority behind home fenced for some horses, so to try to ride say off road bike or ATV is limiting unless you run along the gravel road below the house like some of the other neignbors do up and down the road.
This is a rural property a few miles off a State highway, so there is only a local small general store in the valley where this house lies and the local people we met were very friendly and informative to talk with. Once back out of main highway, there are a few antique shops around and to just drive either side of the area on backroads, will take you through some very pretty little towns almost forgotten by time and some picturesque scenes.
We rented this as part relaxation from work as well as mid point locale to go to Asheville, NC to visit with our older children over Thanksgiving.
We just loved this Zionville hideaway. The perfect relaxation spot for our family with all the comforts of home. Plenty of room, amenities, and views leading to a fantastic weekend away. Close enough to all the hot spots in Boone, Grandfather Mountain, Mystery Hill and Tweestsie Railroad. We can't wait to go back, even if it is just to relax in the hot tub or sit on the wrap-around-porch.
Fantastic spot!! The house is very clean, hospitable, and well equipped with great amenities! The owner is very accessible and helpful with any of our questions, etc. We absolutely loved our stay there, and cannot wait to go back!! :)
Want a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway? Visiting the Round House! Our extended family took an “extended” weekend and soaked up the radiated views, surroundings and atmosphere that the Round House has to share. All we did was bring our food, as all the comforts of home were right there for us.
It was so enjoyable to watch our children play Ping-Pong and pool with their grandparents , just relax in the hot tub, read on the wrap-around deck, go hiking right on the 35 acres and watch the beautiful black horse grazing in the pasture.
We had plenty of room for eight of us, SPOTLESSLY CLEAN, and an easy drive to local attractions, such as Grandfather Mountain, Downtown Boone and Mountain City. Highly Recommended, we can’t wait to go back…
