This one bedroom condominium, located in historic Victorian building in the NW quadrant of Washington DC, Columbia Heights neighborhood known for its Victorian architecture, offers spacious 1100 square feet of living space, king size bed in the bedroom and pull down sofa in the living room.

Rapidly gentrifying area

Our family - 2 adults, two pre-teen sons - stayed at this property in mid-October. Since we live in a "rapidly gentrifying" area ourselves, the location nor exterior of this apartment did not faze us. That being said, folks who desire a beautiful historic district filled with completely restored homes will not be impressed. For them, I'd say wait another 5 years and this neighborhood will be quite different. Apt. building seems to have several VRBO rentals in it, judging by similar curtains in the windows. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

The unit itself was clean and relatively spacious. All furnishings are IKEA. There were a few mix-ups with bed linens (i.e. no fitted sheet for the pull-out sofa), but the owners responded quickly when I contacted them. While we never met them, they were responsive. There is a laundry room in basement with soap that was great to use mid-week. (No charge.) We parked our car in side lot on gravel pad. Sofa bed was fine for our boys, but wouldn't be good for more than 1 adult.

From apart., it was a 5" walk to the Metro and a 2" walk to the Columbia Heights Coffee shop - which we really enjoyed. We were underwhelmed with Sticky Fingers bakery, so only went there once. Kids loved the frozen yogurt shop near Tivoli Square. It was very convenient to have all those shops so close, esp. when our 13-yr. old son needed a new belt (shopped at Marshall's) or we need to fax something (Staples!). We parked our car and never moved it till we left, using the Metro the entire time. Great little restaurants/bars by coffee shop.

A few things would make this apartment top notch:
1. Have coffee in unit. When we checked in, there was only tea available, no coffee grounds. We liked Columbia Heights Coffee shop so much it wasn't a big deal, but still...it would have been a nice touch. Plus a few more spices. (If people cooked, there was maybe a 1/4 t of salt in pantry.) Stove, pots and pans, and fridge were all fine.
2. Get rid of 2nd fridge in kitchen. Not sure why that's there...
3. Repair broken windows.
4. Repair bathroom hooks and bars. They weren't installed properly and were about to rip out of the wall.
5. TV in master bedroom would have been nice. There was a TV in front closet, which we presumed was broken.
6. Replace IKEA nightstand in bedroom, as front face is damaged.
7. Fix overhead light in living room. It constantly flickered and turned an & off. Electrical problem, it seems.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Great location

We stayed here for 5 nights. The apartment was in a great location, about a 5 minute walk to the Metro station and about two blocks to shopping and restaurants. The apartment itself is a decent size. One bedroom with a king sized bed, two bed side tables, a dresser and a good sized walk in closet. The bath was adequate size. The only complaint with the bath is the shower head is low. My husband is 6'1" and had to bend down to get wet. The living room had a fold out couch. The couch seemed a bit small for both of my boys so we walked up,the street tho the Bed, Bath and Beyond and purchased a blow up mattress. One kid slept on the couch and the other on the blow up (we had been wanting one anyway and since we drove, it wasn't and issue). There are two other closets, one in the living room and one behind the front door so storage isn't an issue. The kitchen was better equipped than we expected. I have never seen a garlic press in a weekly rental. Since we cooked breakfast every day and diner a couple of times this was a plus. We also had off street parking, which was good. Our only complaint was the lighting in the living room. There was something wrong with the ceiling light. It would flicker off and on. We were afraid there was a short so we didn't use it. Also, only 4 of the 8 light bulbs worked. We took a table lamp out of the bedroom and put in there. We attempted to call about this but got no response. Over all, I would say this apartment is good for 2-3 people. The neighborhood is a mix. We never felt unsafe so that was good. There is laundry in the basement that was a plus. The walls are "thin" so if you are a light sleeper this might bother you. We thought the people above us were marching. We just turned on some music and it didn't bother us. Overall the rental was good and I would stay there again.

Thank you so much for this apartment rental. It has been wonderful! Everything you indicated, about the neighborhood, the convenience, the space, all has been accurate.
My boys and I really enjoyed our stay and the older boys are all moved into their respective colleges. Thank you so much again, and I will definitely look into renting this place as a repeat customer during my future visits to DC. I am going to be in DC during the Thanksgiving weekend so will contact you if I decide to rent as opposed to a hotel.
I also wanted to let you know that yesterday, I noticed that the starter knob on one of the dryers had come off, thought you may want to look into it. Other than that we have had no issues and had a great experience.

Great Bargain For DC

I was pleasantly surprised with the place, especially after hearing an acquaintance describe it as having "men loitering" on the steps and in front of the building. This was not the case the entire 10 days that we stayed there. I recommend this place to budget-conscious travelers. This apartment is good for people who use it as a base for sightseeing and exploring the city. The kitchen is adequate for preparing simple meals. Although it says "sleeps 2-4," it probably sleeps only 3 unless there are two small children rather than teens. The sofa pulls out into a double bed, just big enough for one person.

I found the apartment adequate for our party of three: two adults and a 17-year old boy. Our son slept on the pull-out couch in the living room.

The good:
Great value, very clean apartment, big enough to accommodate three people, large (for DC-standards) bedroom with kingsize bed, nice shower, storage closets, good-sized and well-appointed kitchen, free access to washer/dryer, nearby Metro, Target, Giant, CVS, and plenty of coffee shops. Good A/C considering the extreme heat wave we experienced. Great walkability. We never felt unsafe, even late at night walking back from the Metro or restaurants.

The not-so-good:
•We only received one key for the place, and never got a response when I requested an extra key.
•The linens for the pull-out bed were insufficient. There was as bottom sheet that did not fit, and there were no top sheets.
•During a late-evening (11 p.m.) laundry run, my newly purchased bottle of laundry detergent disappeared right from the top of the washing machine.
•Some wear-and-tear was evident in the kitchen (one button on the gas range was missing) and there was a puddle of water on the kitchen floor that came from the leaking refrigerator. The veneer on a bedroom nightstand had been ripped off, exposing the ugly pressed IKEA wood. All windows need to be replaced.
•The TV had only one channel, despite the multitude of visible cables.
•Cigarette butts on the front steps of the building were left there for days, leaving a less than good first impression. A 2 minute twice a day sweeping would solve this completely avoidable issue, as well as providing a receptacle for butts.

Great Neighborhood

The apartment was perfect for our family of 4. It was located within walking distance to the Metro (which we used a lot). We felt comfortable walking at night around the neighborhood with our two children.
