Thanks very much for a great holiday home, we enjoyed our stay very much, We toured the area and found it was beautiful beyond our expectations. Your home in Hickory Hill is the perfect place for a few days of rest and relaxation. You have everything in order around the property and we lacked for nothing, great layout and finishing in the house. Thanks so much for a wonderful holiday.
All the best

GREAT HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 4 of 5
We were 2 couples celebrating our 50th wedding anniversaries and one birthday. This home was perfect and a welcoming place to return to after a day of seeing the many sites the Cape has to offer. The weather was perfect (a little rain one day, but that didn't stop us.) The highlight of the trip was the whale watch out of P-town where we saw an amazing number of humpback whales who gave us a great show. We would also recommend Wimpy's Seafood Cafe and especially their New England clam chowder, which was the absolute best we've ever had!

Ian and Kim check with us mid-way through our stay to make sure all was well and also after our return. It has been a pleasure working with them and thank them for sharing their lovely home with us.

Aging beauty

  • 3 of 5
We stayed here as a family of three in mid-August 2014. The house, which is well designed and spacious, is an aging lady. The best is the large patio, where we stayed as much as possible. The interior looks aged and the kitchen equipment is outworn. The surfaces in the kitchen - including the floor - feel somehow greasy, Perhaps the (vey kind) owners should change the cleaning service, who also left the baking oven with some undefinable rests of charred food. To be fair: The bath- and sleeping rooms were really clean.
The worst is the main room in the basement, that effuses a strong smell of mildew. Definitely no place for allergy sufferers. An air dryer running all day shows, that the problem is known. Unfortunately the basement is the place, where you have to go for the washing machine. As also the laundry dryer takes in the basement air, it gives your towels a "special" olfactory mark.
We managed getting through the week, enjoyed the patio and the beaches of Osterville. Sorry Ian and Kim, thank you for your hospitality but your house needs a basic refurbishment.

Owner's Response: Our sincere apologies that the cleaning of the kitchen was not up to your satisfaction. This is the first time in three years that we have received a complaint about the cleanliness of the house. We have addressed the issue with our cleaning service and the owner of the business was truly upset that this happened and assured us that it would not happen again. While the kitchen cabinets are a little older, we do have a new refrigerator, dishwasher and stove-top in the kitchen. A new oven and microwave are next on our refurbishment list.

Regarding the main room in the basement, we are sorry that it was such a big negative on your experience with the laundry room of the house. It is an older home, and the dehumidifier (air dryer) is there to keep the humidity out of the unfinished basement. We know that dehumidifiers are quite rare in Germany but in the U.S., dehumidifiers are very common in an unfinished basement. We have never received any complaints about mildew in the basement and have not ourselves experienced any mildew smells. However, we will have someone come in to look at the basement to see if there any issues we need to address.

We certainly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with the feedback on your stay with us. We are trying to take corrective actions on most, if not all, of the issues you have raised. We always want to do right by our guests and want them to have the best stay possible in our home.

Best,
Ian and Kim

Great rental!

  • 4 of 5
Upon arrival we entered the home to find a very lovely welcome basket with all types of goodies. A very nice touch! The home is very neat and inviting. The property beckons you to the rear deck to sit, read and listen to nature. Very relaxing setting.Anyway looking for a retreat away from the corporate world, this is the place to go. I would recommend this property to future renters. The location is great, easy access to main roads, yet tucked away. We ventured all over the Cape, had a lovely time in Nantucket for a day..again, easy access into Hyannis to the ferry. Close to Sandwich and the plantation.. and of course my favorite drive along 6A to the wonderful antique stores. A must is the Mills Restaurant.. the best breakfast ever and only a few minutes from this home.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 4 of 5
My family and I spent a restful week at Starfish Crossing. One of our favorite things to do was have our coffee on the deck in the morning and listen to all of the nature around us. The cottage is located on a quiet street in a beautiful neighborhood. We had great weather and spent a few days at the local beaches before trying a change of scenery at Mayflower Beach. The local food at the restaurants was very good and the downtowns of both Osterville and Hyannis was very quaint. We enjoyed a day trip to Provincetown and another one to Boston which were both drivable distances from the cottage. We loved returning at the end of the day to the comfort of the living room at the cottage where we watched a good movie or just hung out with our teenaged children. All in all, we had a great time.

Great mid-Cape house

  • 5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week at the Starfish House in mid-July. The house is very well kept, spacious - lot of indoor and outdoor living space, quiet, private (at the end of the street), and is perfect for exploring all areas of the Cape. We (my wife and two kids) were there during a big heat wave so the air conditioning in the two bedrooms was a life saver. It was so hot that we couldn't take advantage of the huge outdoor deck area and airy sun room but we did use the newly installed outdoor shower as our regular bathing area.

Not to be overlooked is that the house comes with a pass for local beaches. Otherwise, you're looking at paying $15-$20 per day to park at the local beaches. The house also has beach equipment (chairs, towels, umbrella, boogie board) so you're all set to take advantage of the wonderful local beaches.

Ian and Kim proved a detailed binder of information about local beaches, restaurants and other Cape Cod attractions. We'd love to come back some day.
