OASIS BY THE SANTA FE RIVER :: 4 BLKS TO PLAZA; 1 BLK TO CANYONRD

Santa Fe House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

CASA TIERRA (House from the Earth)

Casa Tierra is a newly renovated, authentic adobe Guest-home in a superb location 1 block north of Canyon Road and 4 blocks east of The Plaza. It is located along the Santa Fe River with its walking trails, lush foliage, and life-giving waters. From here the stroll to the center of town is flat, shaded and refreshing.

The walls of this 2 bedroom/2 bath adobe are mudded in the ancient ways of native peoples. It is this historic and lovely hand-applied earthen surface that lends the name: Casa Tierra - House from the Earth.

The authenticity of the adobe construction along with a centralized air conditioning/heating system assures year-round comfort.

Casa Tierra is tucked back off the road and entry is beneath a rare, 150-year-old Cedar-of-Lebanon Tree. Fenced on three sides and nestled among mature trees, outdoor spaces are private and inviting.

Inside this 1200 square foot home, a generous and comfortable living area encompasses fireplace, brick floors, a viga-beam ceiling and original museum quality art. The living room opens onto a granite topped kitchen with a six burner stove. Both bedrooms offer king-or-two-twin-bed sleeping options and each has its own bath with hand-painted Talavera tile.

Ah-h-h, Casa Tierra. You speak to our artistic side...

Comfortable. Homey. Beautiful. Perfect for two couples!

Two nights we knew (!) we couldn't find a restaurant as quiet and beautiful, so we "ate in" with a fire in the kiva fireplace.

Ah, Casa Tierra. We will always remember you!

Sir Dr. Russell Betts ('Russ') has lived and worked most of his professional life in Asia, the South Pacific, and Europe addressing issues relating to social, economic and political change. Now calling Santa Fe 'home,' Russ brings to Colorful Santa Fe his world-traveler perspective: comfortable, engaging lodgings to enliven cross-cultural worldviews. Noel Bennett has lived most of her life in the Southwest. She is an abstract artist and shows in her own Infinite Moment studio-gallery by appointment. In past years Noel lived with the Navajo for eight years and authored nine books on Navajo weaving, history and culture. Noel brings to Colorful Santa Fe a well-honed sense of color and unique perspectives on native world-views...... Together we welcome the opportunity of hosting you in Colorful Santa Fe!

Russ and Noël purchased this house in 2010

Years ago we hand-built a now somewhat-celebrated, environmental straw bale home in the Jemez Mountains above Santa Fe. Ten years ago we decided to purchase an in-town pied a'terre--just a small gem-of-a-place in which we could overnight during shopping trips in Santa Fe. Wanting to get the right place in the right location, we engaged in an eight month exhaustive search and ended up purchasing--not one--but two adobe homes in an historic neighborhood just 3 blocks from the Plaza. They became our first guest homes and we settled into this same block to live. During our ten years of strolling Santa Fe streets, we fell in love with a dirt road along the Santa Fe river with cool trails and trickling waters. Suddenly this year and right there, an authentic, rare hand-mudded adobe became available for purchase. We knew instantly it was ours . . . to share with our many repeat guests and new friends as well. And so it came to be: Casa Tierra -- 1 block from Canyon Road and 4 1/2 flat, shady, refreshing blocks to the heart of OLD SANTA FE. An oasis made manifest.

The location of Casa Tierra is superb. One block away is the mile long promenade known as Canyon Road --studded with fine-art galleries, great restaurants, and the soulful historic adobe architecture that is quintessentially Santa Fe. Four blocks to the west is The Plaza -- the heart of downtown Santa Fe with its shopping, museums, convention center . . . and more fine-art galleries and great restaurants. Right out the front door is the living, sparkling, Santa Fe River--with its RiverWalk, shaded nature paths, picnic tables, and falls.

More than that....with it's authentic mudded exterior, folks walking by stop us all the time and ask us about Casa Tierra. We explain that several Santa Fe historians have told us that Casa Tierra is one of only six remaining fully mudded (adobe inside and out!!) homes left in Santa Fe. In short, Casa Tierra is a historic wonder.

HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!

  • 5 of 5
Wow! What can I say about Casa Tierra! Ramell and I recently returned from spending several days in lovely Santa Fe. And we are already eagerly anticipating our return.

The photos on VRBO do no justice! As we entered the home, we were in awe. A lot of time and love went into the design of this place. Love the antique doors that were inspired from the owners' travels to such exotic locales as India. The bedrooms are very spacious with extremely comfortable beds and Noel (one of the owner's) vibrant artwork is displayed throughout the home. Although we didn't cook during our stay, we absolutely adore the open kitchen layout with top-of-the line stainless steel appliances. If you are interested in cooking during your stay, just bring the food! The owners have the cabinets filled with dishes, utensils and other necessities that will make your stay most comfortable.

It was nice to be able to return from a day out on the town and relax with a nice glass of wine by the gorgeous outside deck area. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful, yet we were within a very short walking distance to the famous Plaza area, where we could shop to our heart's content....which we did, by the way!

The hospitality provided by the owners was absolutely amazing. Noel greeted us the day of arrival and took the time to sit with us and go over her suggestions for local hang out spots. We absolutely love the huge binder she compiled which features maps and restaurant choices. It definitely came in handy.

We also enjoyed the lively conversation we had with Russ. I travel frequently and it was nice hearing him chat about his world travels and also his love for Santa Fe.

Casa Tierra exudes warmth and love. It was the perfect retreat for us. I highly recommend this for your vacation choice. And be sure to check out the owners' other Santa Fe vacation rentals! Thanks Noel and Russ for sharing your lovely home with us! Ramell and I not only found a new vacation spot, but we've gained two new friends. Looking forward to many more visits to Casa Tierra.

FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

  • 2 of 5
This is a very old, small, well (?) worn home. No privacy if you are 2 couples, cobb webs everywhere, and multiple spider killings. We were 4 adults, staying for 6 nights, and we were given 1 towel and facecloth each. When i called the office, thinking surely this was a mistake, I was told this was there busy season and that is all they had to go around. We were given one more towel each, ended up going and buying towels and face cloths.

Owner's Response: "An Old Home"
All homes located in the Historic District of Santa Fe (and therefore close to the Plaza) are old homes –and closely monitored by the Santa Fe Historic Board to retain their authenticity. Casa Tierra was built in the 1950s. Three years ago bathrooms, kitchen, appliances, plumbing, and electricity were thoughtfully renovated. Casa Tierra is considered one of Santa Fe’s historic architectural treasures. Specifically it is one of five homes remaining in Santa Fe that is constructed with adobe—inside and out. Many, many guests offer heartfelt thanks for allowing them the privilege of experiencing this authenticity.

"No privacy for 2 couples..."
Having been in this business for 15 years, we are very aware that differing floor plans meet the needs of different groups. So we include the floor plan of each vacation rental on its own website. Additionally when callers request 2 couple privacy we direct them to homes with bedrooms on opposite sides of the house – or upstairs and downstairs.

“We were 4 adults staying 6 nights…. we were given 1 towel and facecloth each. When I called the office…we were given one more towel each…“
ColorfulSantaFe supplies a set of towels for each guest: A bath towel, a hand towel and a wash cloth. This guest called wanting three sets of three towels per person. We explained that vacation rentals (unlike hotels) have all the amenities of home including laundry facilities. (Casa Tierra has a very new high efficiency LG washer dryer – plus detergent!) In addition, we explained that it is extremely important for visitors to recognize that Santa Fe is located in the high desert where drought is the norm. Water conservation is essential --and expected! So, in conjunction with the City of Santa Fe that posts water conservation signs in all public bathrooms, we place signs throughout our guest homes with the City of Santa Fe vacation rental water use policy:
“Use least number of towels and reuse them.
Turn off water when shaving and brushing teeth.
Run dishwasher only when fully loaded.
Turn off water between hand-rinsing of dishes.
Flush only when necessary.”

Santa Fe is a tourist destination and the city (and we) know well that if visitors don’t respect water conservation (by reusing towels) – that this lack of consciousness will compromise the water supply for us all – present and future.

We consider ourselves to be aware and thoughtful hosts -- and we truly enjoy hosting aware and thoughtful guests.

FABULOUS HOME, EXCELLENT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
Casa Tierra was the perfect home for our vacation. The house is comfortable, roomy and everything you need is in place. It's a simple 5 minute walk to downtown and Canyon Road is 2 minutes walking. We even walked to the grocery store which is about 10 minutes and cooked at home one night. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner who made sure our as comfortable as possible and were extremely accommodating. They couldn't be any nicer. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your house!

FORGET ABOUT OWNING A TIMESHARE AND STAY HERE!

We hosted a couple, lifelong friends, who had never been to Santa Fe and this absolutely lovely home, full of art, beautifully decorated, and amply imbued with Santa Fe ambience, was perfect. Location could not be better for great walks to Canyon Road or the Plaza; quiet; private. An unusual cool, rainy day found us all at home, comfortably reading, watching TV, relaxing with lots of room and personal space for all. The fully equipped kitchen and lovely patio with substantial grill and all the tools allowed us to eat in a couple nights. Even in Santa Fe, this is a treat!! Highly recommended; we will be back.

COZY, COMFORTABLE CASITA!

  • 5 of 5
We loved staying here for our girls weekend! The house was so comfortable & cozy. They really use the space well, & the living area is filled with natural light. We all agreed that the beds were some of the best beds (with wonderful linens) we've ever slept in! All of the little extra touches & attention to detail were appreciated, & made our stay even more wonderful. We enjoyed the place so much that we decided to have a girls night IN on our last night. We lit a fire in the fireplace, sat on the couch, chatted, drank wine, ate some cheese & fruit, & watched the Oscar presentations. We would highly recommend this place & found the price very reasonable.
