|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
We invite you to escape to this beautiful, very private traditional Ocean Front Hawaiian home, just minutes from downtown Kona and a wide variety of other attractions.
This 2850 square foot home is perfect for family gatherings with a large master bedroom, a queen-bed bedroom, a 'bonus room' with bunk beds, and two and half baths. There is an additional studio-style 'ohana' (apartment) that is attached to the main house that has a queen bed, private bath, kitchen, washer/dryer and private entrance. The home is furnished in a comfortable, casual Hawaiian theme...some of the furniture is hand-made by Hawaiian artists. There are ceiling fans throughout the house. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything necessary to cook and then some, such as a blender, rice cooker, etc.
Open the French doors that stretch across the front of the home to allow in the Trade Winds, a wonderful respite from A/C. During the day, take a trip to the volcano, go whale-watching, visit the restaurants and shops of downtown Kona, or go deep-sea fishing. There are fascinating tide pools in the lava rocks right behind the house that are home to sea turtles, crustaceans, and an abundance of small fish. This house is a short walk from the sandy beaches of Magic Sands, or a half mile drive to the protected lagoon known for snorkeling. Be prepared to see gorgeous fish and gentle sea turtles!
Make sure to be home in the early evening, around 6pm, to relax in the hammock or on the lounge furniture and catch the famous Hawaiian sunset while drinking a Mai Tai! (see recipe below). During the winter months, watch carefully for the migrating humpback whales that swim. and sometimes breach, right in front of the house.
At night, each bedroom is filled with the sounds of waves crashing onto the lava rocks. This property is gated and walled which lets you relax and think of nothing but being part of a tropical paradise.

I wanted to thank you for the fantastic accommodations during our recent stay in Kona. They exceeded our expectations, and we did not miss a single sunset…and the sea turtles even showed up a few times!
I will definitely be in touch if my travels take me to the Big Island again!
Overall we had a wonderful stay in this house. Our vacation was a bit over shadowed by the hurricane's this past summer. The owner had a care taker on island who was very helpful in getting us prepared for the [what turned out to be a non-event] and sharing evacuation details with us.
That being said this house might not be for everyone…I will break down the pros/cons.
--Location was perfect. Short easy drive to town, right on the ocean with a swimmable beach less than 5 minutes walk away.
--It easily accommodated our party of 8.
--We had beautiful ocean views and could watch the sea turtles right in front of our house.
--Kitchen was adequately equipped.
--Lots of outside furniture.
--Owner was very responsive and easy to work with.
--Price was incredible for what you got and the location.
--Windows were showing wear and tear from all the sea salt [some couldn't really be opened/closed]
--The worst part was only having AC in bedroom and not one in the common living area. The hurricane made it hotter and muggier than normal, but we had to close the windows every time we left so it got pretty hot. Although all the rooms had fans and it did cool of some at night it was uncomfortable, particular in the separate mother-in-laws bonus room. In all fairness we knew the place didn't have AC throughout, but I thought the trade winds would do a better job of cooling the place down.
--There was a small mix-up regarding having the place ready for our check-in. The owner quickly remedied this and refunded us the first night because of this delay.
This house was the perfect place to stay while we celebrated completing our visits to all 50 states, the year of our 40th anniversary, and retirement. We brought our family of 5 adults and 3 children to vacation with us, and this house was great and very spacious.
We had everything we needed for preparing breakfast and some lunches. The kitchen was very well equipped. We enjoyed eating most meals that we prepared outside with the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. Loved hearing the waves crashing and watching the tides roll in and out. There was always some kind of activity in the water: paddle boarders, boats, rowers, swimmers, and lots of sea creatures. We saw several sea turtles, lots of fish, some dolphins, and even a giant eel right below the sea wall. At night, the surf light gave kind of a surreal effect to the waves crashing.
The resident lizards made their presence known, and we were okay with that knowing they were keeping the insect population at bay. Yes, there were bugs, but this is a tropical island.
Rental car is a necessity since it is away from shopping and sites. We traveled all over the island in the week's time. Most everything is within a day's drive there and back.
Make sure you get the patio doors fastened top and bottom. They are kind of tricky to make sure they are completely latched.
This was a very comfortable stay, and we are were happy with our choice to stay at this house. Everything in the pictures and description is accurate.
We have a fabulous time at this gorgeous ocean front home! The owner and the house keeper helped us with all the vacation needs like telling us where to go snorkeling and where to shop for food. They prepared for our group of seven all the snorkeling gears we needed to experience snorkeling in the Big Island. The home was kept immaculately clean. The O'Hanna apartment was very cute and have all the privacy any couple can ask for. There is a nice fan to keep us cool and the ocean sound is priceless!! We saw Dolphins jumping out of the water and they sure know how to put on a show! The two resident sea turtle were just precious!! We see them daily resting in the lagoon in plain sight!! It was an experience one will not forget in this lifetime! I will go back to this lovely home on my next trip, it is a comfortable and relaxing haven right in the ocean front, nothing blocking the million dollar view!! I highly recommend this property for an experience you won't forget for a long time!!!! :-)
This property had plenty of room for our family. It was wonderful to awake in the morning and gaze out at the ocean. We saw several turtles in calmer pools as well as small fish. It is conveniently located just south of the main part of town. There were plenty of beach towels, body boards and snorkeling gear. We loved being lulled to sleep by the ocean waves. I definitely would recommend this home for a stay in Kailua-Kona.
This is a wonderful home with a beautiful view! As in other reviews...u do have to deal with ants inside and BIG cockroaches mostly outside. However, they do use an exterminator regularly and it is Hawaii!! There's no air conditioning except in the master. It can get very warm in the afternoon but with that view...it was not a problem for me! The ohana could use some updating and a small air conditioner..it did get very hot. There are ample towels and beach towels. It was clean and well taken care of. We were a group of 7..5 adults and 2 children. Plenty of space for everyone. It was suggested that a rail be attached to the top bunk. Overall, this is a great place and I highly recommend it.
We rented this home for a family gathering/celebration of life and were delighted to find a home with an ohana. Being able to give the older family members a bit of privacy and the house to the kids was very appealing. With so much ocean frontage everyone had plenty of space to spread out. Watching turtles during breakfast on the lanai was a delight, wondering where the boats were headed or sipping cocktails at sunset, this was the place. Located between Kona Village and Kahalu'u gives good access to both.
The house is well-equiped in many ways. The kitchen is stocked with spices, condiments, handy appliances, and a large quantity of dishes, glassware, knives and more. I can't think of anything that I needed that wasn't there. Having an ice-maker in the refrigerator kept us well-supplied too. No lack of indoor and outdoor towels, and in addition, beach chairs, children's snorkel gear and kickboards were provided.
We met Susie, the local caretaker, when Tropical Storm Flossie was due to hit the Big Island. Whew...a whirlwind of activity to board up things, secure outdoor furniture and give us instructions on what to do if we needed to evacuate the house. We were encouraged to take what we needed, pillows, blankets, flashlights and toilet paper(I would not have thought of that one) and to pack up the car, put it out on Alii Drive, and she left us with her phone number "just in case". Sitting out the night was a bit scary, but because we could go quickly, if needed, I felt secure that we were set, thanks to her. The house had no damage and only a palm frond came down on the lanai.
Kathy, the owner, and Susie were wonderful to work with . We had a last-minute need to extend our stay by one day and they worked together to coordinate that happening.
My brother and I talked of booking again, as we enjoyed the spaciousness of the property and comforts of home. A couple of notes: there isn't any air-conditioning, other than a window unit in the master bedroom. With the high humidity we experienced, even with all the windows open and the ceiling fans going, it was rather warm at times in the house. Parking on the ocean side of Alii Drive presents some issues, too. Most of the homes don't have a lot of parking on their property. There is a lava wall with a gate to this house and getting out takes some care. If you have a larger car or have two cars, it might take a bit of thinking to make it work.
Tide pools with fish and sea turtles right off back wall. Walk to Magic Sands beach, 3 minutes away. We are very close, less than half mile away, to a beautiful public beach with protected lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.
