Everything We Expected and So Much More!

As soon as we got to Red Feather, we immediately felt as if we were home – even thought we had never been there before! The house itself is open and bright with lots of windows and gorgeous views. From the second floor deck you can see forever mountain views of the Blue Ridge - and finally fully understand why it is called the "blue" ridge - the range literally lays down in a hundred shades of blue.
There were four adults in our party and the house had plenty of room for us, plus room to spare – and I can’t tell you how happy everyone was to have their own private bathroom and shower! Having the full kitchen was nice – although we didn’t cook much – hey we were on vacation! There are some great restaurants in the nearby town of Banner Elk – and we were able to catch a really great arts/crafts show too. There are also tons of hiking trails right there. We drove over to Grandfather Mountain and explored, crossed the mile-high swinging bridge and everything. We also stocked up on sweets at the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.
At night we turned out all the house lights and sat on the deck staring up into the star-filled sky. In the morning we reconvened on the deck for hot coffee, hummingbird watching and marveling at how quiet it was. We spent most of our last day at Red Feather discussing all that we would do when we came back next year and wondered how much it would be if we wanted to buy the place! It was that good – definitely the kind of place you want to return to again and again.
