Pioneer Cabin is conveniently located an easy 45 minute drive from Anchorage International Airport. We are on paved roads, midway between Palmer and Hatcher Pass. A great location for visiting the many attractions the “Valley” has to offer!
Our cabin offers 1000 square feet of living area and is nestled in the woods in the middle of a 10 acre parcel. The cabin is spacious and tastefully decorated. It has a large bedroom downstairs offering a comfy queen sized bed, a relaxing view of the woods and a good sized closet. An even larger loft bedroom features a queen sized, a roomy closet and its own private ½ bath. The downstairs bath features a jetted tub and has a separate sink and dressing area. Plenty of privacy for two couples or a family!
The living room is spacious, offering more views of the woods. It has a comfy futon sofa, a small computer desk (we have free wireless internet) and a dining table that seats 6. There is a new flat screen TV and DVD player (we have a good selection of DVDs that are available should you care to have a movie night!) Pioneer cabin also a gas fireplace to take the chill out of cool Alaskan evenings!
The kitchen is fully appointed and features a full sized refrigerator, gas range, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and blender.
Outside, there is a fire ring with a good supply of logs so that you can you can enjoy our midnight sun while sitting around your own private campfire. A gas BBQ, picnic table and plenty of lawn chairs add to your outdoor enjoyment. Keep on the lookout for our “yard moose” which occasionally stop by to munch on our poor apple trees!

Dave and Lonni Ward have made the Matanuska Valley home for almost 30 years. As an avid outdoorsman, Dave has spent many years traveling Alaska’s remote regions working as a carpenter, guide, prospector, pilot and writer. Lonni, Dave and their three children have spent many hours exploring the Matanuska Valley by horse, boat and plane. They look forward to sharing some of the Valley’s “best kept secrets” with their guests.
