A stay at Diana's House (two level traditional Balinese house) in Ubud's artists' village, Penestanan, offers visitors a unique insight into the aritistic, cultural, ceremonial and religious life of Bali, as well as an opportunity to make a contribution to the people of Bali. Rental income from this property is used to sponsor two Balinese children's education.
Ubud is located at the centre of Bali, with beaches, mountains, volcanos and anything else Bali has to offer within an few hours' journey by car. Ubud itself offers a large variety of shops and services, a library where visitors can learn Indonesian and Balinese arts such as the making of offerings and fruits carvings, as well as a large variety of restaurants and cafes which cater for all tastes. As the property has very steep stairs inside and out, care has to be taken with young children. The house is not suitable for elderly or infirm people. Diana's House is accessible by motor bike or on foot. It is a 8 to ten minute walk from a road with car access to Diana's House. Bintang Supermarket is within ten minutes walk from the house.
The photo above is me at the Butterfly Park in Bali with lots of butterflies on me. I am a high school teacher and novelist. I live in the Blue Mountains in Sydney, Australia. My granddaughter who is 9 years old lives with me. We travelled to Bali in April this year and fell in love with the wonderful people and their culture and Bali in general. My granddaughter plays with her Balinese friend there. They have lots of fun even though they don't understand each other very well. We try to spend as much time as possible in Ubud and in the coming school holidays in January, my granddaughter will be going to a campl at the famous Green School.
Diana's House in Ubud is located near a waterfall, tropical forest and a flowing brook. I love being in the house where I am inspired to write. It has an upstairs room which overlooks the lovely view. Really nice cafes and restaurants are also close by so I can go for a short walk to enjoy a Bali coffee or a flat white and take my manuscript book with me.
My Balinese friends who help me in the house, who drive me around and who invite me to their homes to take part in their ceremonies and family gatherings are very special. They make me feel part of a large family. I am never alone when I am in Bali.
Ubud is the artistic and ceremonial centre of Bali. It is the home to many of Bali's wonderful artists. Intricate beadwork and exquisite paintings can be found within walking distance. The Intuitive Flow Yoga Centre and the popular LaLa and Lily restaurant are within a stone's throw. The Bintang supermarket, also within walking distance, offers an interesting range of foods including French and German groceries. The short journey to see the Balinese Macaques monkeys at the Monkey Forest, is a must.
