With 20 years experience, in the Tourism industry, we are in a unique position to advise and help with any of your traveling and Safari requirements.
Yvonne is a 'professional' Artist, working from her studio on the property. All guests are very welcome to view the studio gallery at any time.
The view has to be seen to be believed and it really is better than the photos can portray.
Watch the sea birds, seals, whales, sailing yachts, wind surfers, submarines and battle ships go by, from the comfort of the Uitsig cottage lounge or veranda.
Set in the Cape Peninsular, there are endless mountain and sea views, with new beaches around every corner.
After moving 'camp' 6 previous times starting in Durban, this was the perfect place to land for our longest (9 days) and final temporary home in South Africa. Yvonne is a fantastic host (Helmut was out guiding at the time). She is also a talented artist and the painting we brought back with us keeps South African memories going. As for the cottage, it's perfect for a couple. Kitchen, bath, bed, bedding, lighting, cleanliness, all great! The fynbos garden is awesome around the house.
We did not want to stay in central Cape Town, and I don't think you can do better than this location if you are of the same opinion. We drove everywhere, although there is a train station into Cape Town nearby. You can go south to Simon's Town and to the end of the Cape Peninsula easily without bad traffic. Time it right and you can drive into central Cape Town in 30 min. Around 8:30 it took about 45 min. Better yet, take the Chapman's Peak route in and enjoy one of the most stunning drives in the world between this cottage and Cape Town and it takes about 45 min.
As for the view, well, I have been fortunate to stay in quite a few view locations. This view is not to be taken lightly, it is stunning! Especially the change in light from sunrise to sunset. We hope to do the long trip from our corner of the world and stay again.
We have just finished a month long stay at Uitsig Cottage and it could not have been more perfect for us.. First of all, Yvonne and Helmo are perfect hosts. Always there when or if you need them, but never intrusive. They have a wealth of knowledge about South Africa and are a pleasure spend time with. The cottage is, well, perfect. It is a comfortable size for a long stay and the outdoor space is more than generous. Did I say that it also has a perfect view and location? The harbor in Simons Town is very beautiful as well as active. As for location, we took the train into Cape Town which was convenient, but there are so many great restaurants, beaches, wineries and hikes close to the cottage that you would never have to leave the area. So, as I have said many times, it was perfect - so much so that we will definitely be back!
It is difficult to add to a full set of 5*s, but Uitsig Cottage truly IS outstanding! Yvonne and Helmo are perfect hosts and maintain the highest of standards in a breathtaking location. It is modern, spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly need is provided. Apart from an occasional foray for provisions, you could spend your entire time blissfully relaxing whilst overlooking the stupendous view.
I know Glencairn Heights well, I only wish I had discovered Uitsig Cottage years ago. It is ideally situated to explore the many attractions of the Table Mountain National Park, from Cape Town itself all the way down the Peninsula to Cape Point. Beautiful scenery, a unique ecosystem, great and well marked hikes, fascinating history, fantastic restaurants, outstanding wines, even a nature reserve in the vlei below the cottage and much, much more are all there to explore.
For those who do not know the area, in the cottage there is a comprehensive library of guides and suggestions for places to eat, visit and experience, and Yvonne & Helmo are a mine of information and helpful suggestions. If you need help or advice, they are always available to assist but if, like Garbo, you want to be alone, you will be!
As an alternative to rushing about seeing amazing sights, you can do what I did – chill! Yes, just a few hikes, a little light photography, an occasional delicious meal out, but predominantly three weeks of the ultimate in relaxation on the deck at Uitsig – it means ‘view’, and boy what a view!
We started our journey at Uitsig Cottage what a great Place to be. We just have to repeat what the other visitors wrote as a review. Stunning view day and night, lovely hosts and we love Jessie and Solo. It is a great place to stay outside of the busy Cape Town, but only 40 minutes away, you can see the train from the Deck and travel into Cape town. Visit Fish Hoek, Simonstown, Boulders beach and Cape point we still did not see everything. Started our journey to the rest of the country from there, also organised by these two Helmo and Yvonne. we had a great great month and saw a lot never to forget.
Thanks for your hospitality.

Carol and I simply loved Uitsig Cottage! It is extremely well-appointed, very comfortable, and has an absolutely breathtaking view of the bay and Simons Town. It proved to be the perfect base from which we were able to explore the environment. On most afternoons the sheltered deck enticed us just to relax on the loungers and drink in the stunning view. We were treated by the presence of Southern Right whales in the bay on most afternoons.
Yvonne and Helmo were wonderful hosts - very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive in any way.
We hope to be back at Uitsig Cottage for our 50th wedding anniversary in 2016.
