This unique property is located on an Island in the St. John's River just South of Welaka Fl. The cabin is fully appointed and situated on a beautifully shaded river front lot which affords the opportunity to boat, fish, swim, waterski or just relax on the 40 foot porch and watch the river go by. The Ocklawaha River and Silver Glen, Salt and Juniper Springs are just a short trip by boat. A full service marina is just across the river and many dining and sightseeing opportunities including Sport bass guiding is available as well. Wildlife including deer are often seen on the Island along with aquatic birds and raptors.
Drayton Island was home to many Precolumbian Indians and has midden mounds and other traces of these early civilizations. If you don't own a boat one can be rented or you can drive your car on the island after crossing the ferry. Of course launch facilities and supplies are located conveniently on the Mainland.
Firstly, Mike and Cheri where exceptionally caring, efficient and accurate regarding the rental of their special "Old Florida" hideaway. Pictures and descriptions are right on, yet only show a small portion of the treasures of to be enjoyed on this island property. Your country, island lake house is truly comfortable and unique. Since the moment we met Judith and Boo, our host, we knew we were in good hands. Her local knowledge and insight to our stay placed us immediately on track for a great time. The boat access is perfect! Close to Mikes friends at "Fat B's" and the full service bait, tackle and fuel of "Georgetown Marina". The Lake is huge, the second largest in the State but much prettier than Lake "O" and full of great fishing spots! Heavy cover is prevalent. I spoke with Adam, the fishing guide to confirm his services for our next visit. My wife and our four children from 26 to 15 came and went during our stay and all enjoyed themselves. We utilized every local tip provided by the friendly Lake George community from fishing, to having a night out at the "River Bend". We wake boarded way out in the middle of the lake, away from the gators! The springs are a "must do" with eagles and osprey. Evenings with BBQ and campfires under the big sky stars. Curious owls providing entertainment for our city dogs! Mornings on the screened porch and dock, with coffee and the quiet sunrise, watching the serious anglers zipping through the early fog toward their honey holes. Without a glitch, our four days had gone by, our hosts came by to see us off and we returned to South Florida awaiting our next visit! Mike and Cheri thank you for sharing and to those with similar family interests, do not hesitate.
Great place to stay. Been here the last 3 yrs. Will be back. Has everything one would need. It is just s described
This property provided a most relaxing, quiet, and restful stay for our family. If anything, time passed too quickly and made the end of our stay feel like an unwanted return to civilization. There was boat access to 3 springs a very short distance away from the cabin. Can't wait to return to this true island paradise.
From the moment we arrived at the marina with our 3 older grand-children ( 19, 17, & 15) we started to unwind and relax. But the ride across to the island with Michael on his pontoon boat is what really did it for us. The property was exactly as described, with everything you needed at hand. When we go back again in the fall, we will be sure to bring enough groceries to cover our stay, as that was the only slight drawback. The drive to the nearest full sized supermarket in Cresent City was about 22 miles round trip, and then back to the island, so plan ahead ! The kids loved exploring the island on foot or on the golf cart, and there was tons of wildlife for them to see. We took them across the lake to Salt Springs where they were able to swim in the clear water and cool off. The fishing could have been a little better, but I'm sure that was because of the water temperature and the lower levels. Michael was a great host and everyone we met was very friendly and helpful, especially Judith.
We will be coming back in the Fall !

We arranged this rental to celebrate my husband's birthday. Upon arrival, the property was just as pictured in the write up. Owner was very friendly, and even let us use his pontoon boat. It is a beautiful area and everyone we encountered were very friendly. The front porch was a great place to unwind in the evening and have morning coffee in the am.i would recommend this property to anyone who wanted a relaxing, quiet place. Submitted by K. cornwell
