Published in National Geographic as one of their top 50 adventure towns to visit, New Paltz is a great place for exploring. Mohonk preserve and Minnewaska State part offer 25,000 acres of hiking, biking, horsebackriding, and of course world-renowned rock climbing “the Gunks.” There are numerous farm stands and apple orchards to visit where they frequently have ‘pick your own’ options for a playful afternoon. The Hudson Valley wine trail also includes Robibero (1/2 mile away), Whitecliff, and Adair wineries all in close proximity. There are spa’s to visit, numerous shops and art stores, and wonderful restaurants. Please take some time to read the book in the house that I have put together on the areas activities.
****Please do not smoke inside the property, and inquire about additional cleaning fee if you come with your animals!

I am originally from Toronto Canada , but have lived in the States since '99.
My job had me living out of a suitcase for many years before I could finally call Manhattan my home, where after many years of living in the crazy city, I found myself some green space!
Shawn Pressley purchased this house in 2000
I happened to have been invited up to New Paltz for the weekend and it became love at first sight. The area has so much to offer, from hiking , to kayaking, horse back riding , sky diving , culinary delights with many quality restaurants opening up around town, Mohonk Mountain House & Spa, or simply, the easy drive out of the city for some peace, fresh air and tranquility.
The area itself captured my heart with the Catskill mountains as a backdrop, and the every changing Wallkill river at it's base.
I loved living here, I loved having my horses in the back yard and the dogs running around the property.
thanks. things have been just perfect. we took some walks and did some other things. It was a good chance for my wife to be with her two boys and their families. the house was perfect and everything was first class. we used a lot of firewood and enjoyed it. I was up here a lot many years ago but only on day trips to hike or x-country ski, never just to relax. thanks again for everything and happy new year to you.
We enjoyed a family get together at Shawn's lovely home. We were very comfortable, enjoyed the kayaks, and took multiple short walks back and forth to the river. The open plan on the lower floor is really conducive to great conversations with the family. Proximity to the fun town of New Paltz was a real plus. Shawn made the whole experience very easy.
Our family and friends had a great time here. House was beautiful. Had everything we needed. Our children had a blast running down the hills and kayaking on the river. We will be back.
This was our second stay in this wonderful house. Although it rained for most of our visit, we made the best of it. We came up with friends and our young niece and nephew. Whenever there was a reprieve from the rain, we played ball, went kayaking on the river and enjoyed the open space. We cooked, played games, and roasted marshmallows in the fireplace. We also went looking at property and even took the kids bowling nearby. Loved seeing the deer and all the wildlife. Will definitely come again!
We decided to have the family stay at Shawn's home for my husband's birthday. We had previously stayed there last September for a long weekend. We were all very nervous as it was predicted that the coldest temperatures were forecast for the days we had booked. Having only seen the house and beautiful property in the fall with all the colors, it was quite a stark difference to see it under feet of snow. It was BEAUTIFUL. We had the fireplace roaring and we all sat around the dinner table after braving the elements outside. It was great to know that if we ventured out into wind chills of 15 below, we could return to warm ourselves by the fire. As much as we wished the weather was nicer, we were not disappointed one bit. We had an amazing fun-filled time at this home with all you could ask for. Thanks again Shawn for providing this treasure for us to enjoy. Of course we want to come back again.
We had the pleasure of using this beautiful home as our family Thanksgiving getaway. New Paltz and nearby Mohonk Mountain House offered lots to do for the whole family. However, we spent most of the time enjoying the house. There were many trips to the river to enjoy the view, and more than enough room for a family soccer game in the yard. Nights were spent playing games and cozying up to the fire in the open living space. The kitchen was well-equipped to prepare our Thanksgiving feast. The bedrooms were spacious enough for everyone to have their own space. Shawn was very responsive and accommodating during our planning. We would strongly recommend this property to others and are already planning our return trip. We couldn't have hoped for a better experience, especially compared to a hotel that would have been triple the price for the whole family.
My friends and I rented this house for a weekend getaway. It was FANTASTIC! It accommodated all of us comfortably. The kitchen was a dream to cook in and the grounds were BEAUTIFUL! The owner was nothing but lovely in correspondence and answered all of the questions that I had in a timely fashion. He even left a bottle of wine for us upon arrival! I would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to get away to this beautiful part of New York state.
