Bryan Albert purchased this house in 2007
This house was PERFECT for what we needed. We were looking for a great place for a stay cation (we live in Charleston) and we found it! We wanted an affordable house, with a porch, and beachfront. This fit the bill perfectly. The house is literally ON the beach and with a one year old it was so nice to go in and out with ease. The garage area was nice to hold all our stuff/several cars and they even had a beach umbrella, floats, and chairs for us to use while we were there. There is a coded entrance so you don't have to worry about bringing your key every time you go in and out. There's even an outdoor shower to rinse off before going in. The inside floor plan was open so everyone could visit in the main room/kitchen. We loved being able to wake up to see the sunrise every morning from our window. This side of the beach is very quiet and felt like our own personal beach. There were a few negatives to be aware of, but the positives far outweigh them in my opinion. I kept calling it "beach house" style. There are a lot of little things that could be fixed and it makes the house seem less nice (torn screen, peeled paint, broken rail in fridge, couldn't find a dustpan...) but it's all easily overlooked by the beach! The house wasn't perfect, but it was perfect for us and we would highly recommend!
The location and beach are great! The house has so many potentials. Picture deceiving. Outside steps - not there! The house did not look like it had been cleaned at all - toothpaste left around faucet, hair/bobby pins on carpet, bathtub ring, outlet covers missing, missing light bulbs, blinds/curtain rods hanging from wall and more. I understand the owner lives out of town but the cleaning crew is doing a disservice to his house!
I'll start by saying that we had a great time. The location of the house on Folly Beach is excellent, and we were blessed with excellent weather. The beach at that spot is very wide and not at all crowded, and we did fishing and surfing right there. It easily accommodated the 8 adults we had with us. The owner/manager of the property, Bryan, is very helpful and promptly responded to any information requests.
The house falls in to the "you get what you pay for" category - it was one of the most inexpensive oceanfront properties we found on Folly Beach, but the routine maintenance is poor. Lots of chipped paint inside and out, broken or missing curtains/shades/lightbulbs, scalding hot water. Some of the furniture was broken or structurally suspect. Dishwasher seemed like it didn't clean very well. Some bed pillows were kinda gross looking. Couldn't put anything in the refrigerator door because it's missing rails. Mismatched junky chairs on the deck. Only seven forks.
The main TV was nice/new (although we rarely watched anything) and there was a new couch. It was clean. There were no sightings or evidence of bugs. Someone delivered four new plastic chairs while we there (but they were kind of cheap/not sturdy)
On balance, because of the price, location, and basic amenities, I would still recommend this house, but next time I'd bring more forks and my own pillow :-P
I've never used vrbo.com before and was quite sceptical. The owner responded via email and we had a phone conversation to discuss details. This property is affiliated with a realty company so for a first time user this helped put me at ease. This property was clean, not one of the most updated that you might see but for the location...you really don't mind that it's not granite and stainless steel. I live in a 1926 colonial...I don't have those things anyway! :) It is well worth the visit, it gives you the experience you are looking for and gets you where you want to be....right on the ocean! I will never forget this trip! I made my parents, boyfriend, and brother extremely happy and thankful! My dad walked in and hugged me and thanked me and said he was so impressed. I'm happy that I was able to give him an experience he may of thought he never would of had at the age of 60! And for my boyfriend's first time seeing the ocean...he told me he could of never even dreamed of something like this! Thank you Bryan for the opportunity and experience, I hope to be able to visit Folly Beach again one day and stay at your property!
You are only 20 minutes from beautiful and historic Charleston, SC! Make sure you spend some time downtown at 'The Market' and take a horse drawn tour of the city. To many restaurants to mention but try Husk, SNOB (Slightly North of Broad), Hall's Steakhouse and High Cotton. Great museum's and childrens attractions downtown as well.
