Kootenay Lake is paradise found!!!
A free ferry to Nelson (Nelson is often referred to as Santa Fe north for its interesting art, restaurants, city centre) is further up the lake and provides a great outing. Ainsworth Hot Springs are near Nelson as well. Nelson has golfing, skiing, mountain biking and sandy beaches.
Crawford Bay is about 30 km north of the cottage along Highway 3A. An artisan community that features glass blowing, broom making, organic foods, iron works, painting, quilting...you get the idea.
Boswell located about 10 km north has a glass castle to tour!
Creston, 30 km south is a gem of a town with all kinds of fresh/organic produce including tender fruits and vegetables grown nearby. The old movie theatre is a classic for catching a recent film. A variety of restaurants tempt the palate. The Creston Wildlife Management Centre is just west of Creston and features 17,000 acres of nature. You can do interpretive hikes, guided canoe trips, climb bird blinds and see all sorts of interesting animals and birds.

My home is in Calgary, Alberta. I am a town planner and have been fortunate enough to work in North America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Much of my work revolves around sustainable developments and sustainable plans for municipalities. Attractive design, architecture and building communities in a sustainable way are important to me both personally and professionally. My passions are outrigger paddling, gardening and great friends!
This is the best of Canadian outdoors...kayaking, boating, hiking, mountain biking or just sitting on the deck with a good book are all perfect activities here.
The cottage has hand adzed beams, unmatched views from inside the cottage - up and down the lake, and a light airy feel. To date we have enjoyed seeing a variety of birds and animals on the property including moose, deer (June 2012), bear (May 2012), otter (May 2010), wild turkeys, bats, bald eagles (June 2012), ospreys (June 2012), loons, all sorts of ducks and geese and a variety of hummingbirds(June 2012). Bring your binoculars!
