CHARMING WEST SHORE CABIN AT LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA

Tahoma House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Enjoy year-round sports and activities at our charming West Shore cabin at beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. Perfect for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, the cabin is just a short 5 minute drive to Homewood Ski Resort; 20 minutes to Alpine Meadows Ski Resort; and, 25 minutes to world-famous Squaw Valley, site of the 1968 Winter Olympics. A 15-minute drive takes you to Tahoe City where you will find wonderful shopping and diverse dining as well as many recreational opportunities, including rafting down the Truckee River. Further up the road is Stateline where California meets Nevada. Casinos can be found, including the Cal-Neva, a hang-out for the Rat Pack in the 50s and 60s. If you head in the opposite direction from the cabin you will reach the South Shore where casino resort hotels abound with nightlife and fine dining as well as Heavenly Valley Ski Resort.

Just 3 blocks to the lake, our neighborhood is comprised of single family homes with approximately 40% occupied by year-round residents and 60% by vacation homes. Although our cabin is on a double corner lot, the neighborhood is quiet and the neighbors are friendly. One of our favorite activities is dining on the large deck, whether it's breakfast on a warm sunny morning or barbecuing in the evening with cocktails and appetizers.

We are a married couple, Terry and Pat, who live in Mill Valley, CA. We've both just turned 62, and have 3 cats. Terry works in the food business in sales and Pat has recently retired and now does volunteer work for the American Cancer Society Discovery Store in Mill Valley as well as the Marin County Library.

We have done a number of exchanges and, in addition to rentals, would be interested in doing an exchange in Hawaii, Spain, France, the Caribbean, or Greece, but are open to all suggestions.

Terry Keenan purchased this house in 1982

There's only one Lake Tahoe, which provides year-round recreational fun and activities for the entire family. It's just a 4-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, but also within a 45-minute drive from the Truckee Airport. The historic town of Truckee offers unique shopping and browsing as well as unique dining experiences. The cabin has proven to be a perfect getaway, especially from the pressure of living in the San Francisco Bay Area, even if only for a two-night weekend.

The cabin has been lovingly decorated to reflect a mountain experience with comfortable living and dining areas as well as bedrooms and bath. Charming personal touches abound throughout, making this a perfect getaway with an 'at home' feel. We're also are interested in exchanging our cabin either here the US or other locations outside of US.

GREAT GETAWAY FOR THE FAMILY

Just as advertised - perfect for family of 4. Spacious and comfortable. Very convenient location since we went skiing in Homewood. Home has all the amenities we needed. Owners were easily reachable and very responsive and helpful to any questions. Would definitely recommend to friends!

LOVELY CABIN ON QUIET WEST SHORE!

  • 5 of 5
We have been staying at this wonderful cabin for many, many years and consistently have had a great experience each time. It is only a couple of blocks to the lake, market, bike trails and even public transportation (to go places around Lake Tahoe). Hiking trails, ski resorts, restaurants and shopping are a short drive or bike ride away. The cabin is cozy and has everything you need for a comfortable and restful home away from home vacation. The Keenan's are great to rent from - have been responsive to all of our needs and are very diligent about the upkeep and upgrading of cabin amenities. I have recommended Harvest Moon to several friends over the years and all have been happy with their visit. We started coming to this sweet cabin when our children were young and now that they are adults, we continue this tradition. Thank you Terry and Pat for this lovely cabin on the west shore!

JUST WHAT I WANT AT TAHOE

  • 5 of 5
We are friends who have done a Tahoe hiking getaway for many years and Harvest Moon has been part of that for many years. The description and reviews are accurate, and the picture captures the charm of the home. The location is great for getting to the parks we enjoy, and to Tahoe City. It's within walking distance of the lake and Sugar Pine Point State Park and an easy drive to D.L. Bliss and many other places. On a sunny morning or at the end of the day it's great to relax on the deck, and, later, inside the pretty wood-paneled main room. Terry and Pat have been quickly responsive on the couple of times over the years that we needed them. I do recommend their place to others.

ANOTHER GREAT WEEKEND AT THE HARVEST MOON

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four just spent a few days at the Keenan’s cabin on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. We like this area a lot not only because it’s quiet, but also because it has an old Tahoe feel to it. This is especially true at the Keenan’s cabin, Harvest Moon. It has knotty pine on the ceilings and walls throughout, décor reminiscent of a well-loved family cabin, and all the conveniences of a well stocked home. We’ve been coming back each summer for the past five years. We have young children who enjoy the badminton court and hunting for shells at the nearby beach while we enjoy relaxing on the sunny deck with the brick barbecue, enjoying a glass of wine while grilling dinner. Other nights we walk down to the local pizzeria for dinner with the kids. There is so much to do within a short distance from the cabin; plenty of hiking and biking opportunities, nearby beaches with swimming and boating, etc. With all the amenities one would hope to find in a cabin rental and at such a reasonable price, we highly recommend Harvest Moon for an unbeatable relaxing getaway, all season long.

COZY TAHOE CABIN

  • 4 of 5
This cabin was what I expected from the pictures and written description. It was clean and well equipped for our needs. The deck was particularly inviting. The owners were quick to respond to needs--calling the cable company for us when we had difficulty with the wifi. The housekeeping costs are kept low because you bring your own linens and no deposit was required other than the first nights rent. The charming elements to me were the stained glass windows in the kitchen which opened over the kitchen sink, the fireplace, and the overall woodsy feel. There are also lovely windows in the bedrooms although one of them was boarded over because of bear damage which hadn't been repaired when we got there. We did not see any bears or have any trouble with them. Although the house is only three blocks from the lake, it appeared that the beach was private and we were not sure if we were part of the groups who could use it. We hadn't thought to ask about that. The beach is very small. But there are many beaches which are very close to drive to. This place is great if you prefer a more quiet location, but an easy drive to Tahoe City and all the activities on the north or west sides of the lake.
