Mel's Cottage is new on the rental market. This charming shotgun house has been completely remodeled including: electrical, plumbing, bathroom fixtures, kitchen appliances and a bottled water dispenser. Kitchen has gas range for those who like to cook; but Galveston has plenty of restaurants for every taste and price range for those who don't.The original knotty pine was saved and used as wainscoting which gives this cottage it's warm inviting feel. All furniture is comfortable, there is a dog cover for the couch so feel free to put your feet up. I want your stay to be stress free and comfortable.

The owner is happy to offer a dog friendly cottage, but please limit to one well-behaved dog. Pet door to fenced and locked front yard included. I have wireless wifi.

Front and backyard is completely fenced with a keyed lock and covered with pea gravel, no fleas, no burrs.

BONUS: Large capacity washer/dryer and outdoor clothesline available. Keep cars cool with carport for 2 cars.

PRIVACY AND CONTROL: Three A/C window units for individual temperature preference and quiet control. Doors are custom 'quiet' doors.

SHOPPING: Kroger grocery store at 57th & Seawall is a huge store for all your needs. So is Walmart which is just a few blocks up the Seawall. Randalls grocery store and Specs liquor store are on 61st just north of Seawall. You can see that being on 54th & Q is a very convenient for shopping.

ADDITIONAL AMENITIES INCLUDE: blender, 4 slice toaster, coffee pot, toaster oven, built-in microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, large capacity washer and dryer with laundry soap, dishwasher and soap, plenty of paper towels, trash bags, lots of silverware, dishes, pots and pans, and a corkscrew. Beached sized cooler and blue frozen ice blocks in freezer and beach blanket.

Bathroom has plenty of new towels, lots of toilet paper, bath soap, empty chest of drawers for clothes, laundry basket, and hair dryer.

Last-minute Weekend Getaway!

After finding out that I had an unexpected Friday off, I started perusing HomeAway listings and came upon Mel's. I put in an inquiry and was responded to very promptly. I had a couple of extra questions (dog and location related) and both of those questions were answered promptly as well. Mel was so friendly and easy to deal with, I quickly chose the property over all others and booked.

We arrived late Friday evening at Mel's cozy little beach town bungalow; the directions were perfect, and the instructions on how to get into the house were easy-to-understand and accurate as well. The house was even cuter than the pictures show, very clean, smelled wonderful, and was exactly what we were wanting.

There were more than enough amenities; basically anything we could think of was provided for and even more. The only thing we found ourselves without was as much cooking/prep materials as we are used to - but my goodness, that is a picky point! The house was well-ventilated and plenty cool...our canine companion felt like a princess, and we slept like rocks on the memory-foam topped mattress.

The location was great as far as being near to the beach - just two quick turns and we were seeing ocean. The neighborhood is mixed - some very nice homes and some slightly less-nice ones. Mel's is absolutely one of the cutest, and is immaculately maintained.

We SO enjoyed our stay at Mel's property, and will absolutely be back the very next time we can get away! Highly recommended. Thank you, Mel!

Perfect Cozy Cottage

Mel's place was perfect. The location was great for a short little drive to Seawall. The queen-sized bed was very comfortable, the A/C units and floor oscillating fans provided all we needed to stay cool, the kitchen had ample seating at the table and bar for our family, and the living area was all we needed for our short stays in the house between outings.

The house was very clean and had so many amenities - washer/dryer, linens, yard, full kitchen, wi-fi, cable - that it was a very comfortable stay for my family of four (which includes two small children) and our little beagle-mix. We drove down to Walmart and purchased groceries to make breakfasts and lunches during our stay and it helped us save quite a bit of money. The wi-fi was a great plus for my husband who still had to do some work while on vacation.

Mel also provided a great little tourist wall with a map that had pushpins marking locations of good places to eat and shop, brochures, and nearby vet information. Mel was also very responsive to any questions or concerns during our stay which I found very useful. The photos show an accurate depiction of the home, which I found to have a lot more charm in person. I would definitely recommend this home for a vacation stay and hope that it is available for my family's next getaway to Galveston.

Simply Perfect

Mel's cottage is by far the best house on the island. It has every amenity imaginable and the location is absolutely perfect. The description in the add is perfect although it is way cuter than the pictures actually show. Mel has done an all around wonderful job with the house. We were within blocks from every attraction as well as multiple local stores. Mel was very prompt in answering every question I had and gave awesome recommendations for our families activities. This was our very first family vacation and we were more than pleased. It fit our needs in every way possible and we will definitely be booking again for our next Galveston excursion :)

Cozy Stay

Mel truely made this house feel like a second home. It was clean and had everything we needed for cooking and laundry. The beach was easy to get to as well as the other attractions we went to. Mel was easy to work with and very friendly. There was a map with places to eat and grocery stores provided. Our only concern was being able to keep the house cool with window units. We closed the bedroom doors and it helped take care of the issue. We will be looking to stay here again next year!
Owner's Response: I took this to heart and I can see with the heat and humidity that am extra unit by the back door would make the whole cottage more comfortable for my guests. I am going to Galveston this sunday to have a extra unit installed. I appreciate Angela H. for letting me know about this. I want my guests to have a good time on their getaway with no concerns. GREAT STAY

I arrived at Mel's Cottage and was able to access the property without incident. Everything was neat and clean and well stocked. This was my first time renting on the island and I was pleasantly suprised. I will use this location again and again.


Mel was responsive and delivered everything he said he would deliver, Internet access and a clean, well stocked cottage.
