Enjoy Bass Fishing on our 2 acre Lake. Usher in sunrise with Breakfast at the Gazebo overlooking the Golden Pond. Drink your Latte from our Espresso Bar on the Covered Veranda, stroll through the Herb Garden and the Rose Arboretum, or Day Dream on the Amish Bridge watching the turtles sunbathe on Turtle Rock. Mingle on the covered porch or cozy up to one of the many Outdoor Fireplaces.

Both ranch houses restored to perfection with Wooden/Saltillo floors, granite or hand-painted Mexican tiled kitchens. Cozy reading rooms, covered porches and verandas for indoor and outdoor pleasure. Both houses are perfect for families or couples.

Ranch house has a full country kitchen, living room, and Victorian parlor. A loft lounging area complements the upstairs Queen bedroom. Second bedroom has one double and one single bed. You can rent the ranch house separately for $350 per night (3 day minimum) and $2000 per week.

Lake House, where urban elegance meets antique charm, has Queen sized downstairs bedroom and one large “Bedsit” upstairs with a double bed and pull out beds for kiddos. Can easily accommodate 2 downstairs and a family of up to 5 sleepers upstairs.

Show off your singing talent at the on site antique-filled Karaoke Barn, which looks like a set for an Old John Wayne movie, complete with a Chuck Wagon for a Casual Buffet.

You will love touring the nearby filming sights for movies like 'True Grit',' 'Second Hand Lions,' and the recent 'True Grit.'.

About Kathy Borich

Both of us are former city slickers from Chicago, but we have been happy Texans since 1971. Gary went to a conference in Arizona in January of 1970. It was 2 degrees above zero when he left Indianapolis and 75 when he arrived in Tucson. Two months later he bought a pair of boots; then in the spring we bought a horse, and moved everything to Austin in 1971. We love our Austin downtown bungalo, but wanted some country, too.

In 1983 Rancho Encantado was just 40 acres of cow pasture and farmland with a hundred-year-old house that anyone in their right mind would have torn down. Instead, we slowly rebuilt it, herding out the assorted cows and birds that had been calling it home, and we have never looked back. Actually, we even moved another turn of the century German farmhouse to the property and fixed it up, too.

Our 3 Arabian horses and the grand kid's pony/quarter horse, Tuckaho, live the good life out there. So do a large quantity of fish in the two ponds, as you can see in the above photo with son Damon and Grandson Weston, who doesn't seem aware that Scout, their Weimaraner, is also interested in his catch.

With Austin as home and the ranch as our peaceful respite, we have the best of both worlds. You can, too, when you stay there.

Why Kathy Borich chose Austin

The ranch is just far enough away from Austin to be a different rural world, but it is close enough to take advantage of everything that great city has to offer. The rolling hills and deep blackland remind me of the Midwest where I grew up. We actually grow corn, wheat, cotton, hay, and maize there. I love waking up to the birds chirping. The sunrise on the little lake is a golden moment and so is the sunset against the tree-lined back pasture. Nothing beats breakfast at the gazebo, unless it's cocktails on the Fishing Rocks or a toast at the veranda's wine bar.

What makes this farmhouse unique

So much of the hectic growth and traffic is west of Austin. This is the undiscovered side where people still farm their land and wave at you from their pickup trucks. The adjoining little towns of Elgin, Taylor, and Bastrop are like time in a bottle, back to a different era of front porch swings, city squares, and friendly faces of people who have all the time in the world to just enjoy life.

Incredible location to shoot a video!

From our very first conversations to our last these owners were incredible. They were accommodating, punctual and addressed all our needs both big and small. I believe my initial request was a little outside of the realm of "normal" for them since not only did we have 8 people on our trip, but this trip was booked specifically for the purpose of shooting a video with a nationally known author.

The property had all the comforts of home and yet everything you'd expect from a Texas ranch. The blue buildings and red roof of this picturesque homestead were the perfect backdrop for our vision of the finished project we were working on. The listing was a bit inaccurate only in that they could not have explained how beautiful this place really was. Not a pretentious beauty but a quaint "I'm feelin' at home" kind of beauty.

Though we fixed most of the meals right there at the ranch, there were plenty of options in the surrounding area to make for a couple of nice nights out. If you are looking for Texas charm, lots of space to stretch out, this is the place to be! Thank you for the Texas hospitality!

Everything you could want and More!!

Rented both houses for a 40th birthday celebration and we are all still talking about how incredible this property was and how much fun we had. Both houses had their own unique personality and charm and the pictures don't even do it justice. Upon arriving Kathy met us out at the ranch and toured us around which was very helpful and even gave us the history on the property which made us feel more emotionally connected to it. We didn't explore outside of the ranch and didn't need to! This property had so many different areas that made us feel like we were in a different place each time we changed our hangout area. The Karaoke Barn was a hit and we spent a lot of time in there. We fished in the pond and caught a few, we made s'mores at the fireplace and just enjoyed the peace and beauty of the location. I can't thank Kathy enough for sharing her wonderful home with us and making this 40th a memorable one. I would recommend you stay here and experience it first hand. You will be amazed and enjoy every minute.

Great vacation spot

The property was awesome! Stayed because of a race and outside doing the race, I never left the property until check out time. I wished I didn't ever have to leave. We walked the trails that the owner freshly cut for us, fished in the lake, sang horribly in the party barn, made s'mores in the outdoor fireplace, drank tea in front of the lake house fireplace. Couldn't ask for a better weekend. Owner greeted me and explained everything and welcomed me as if was family. All 10 guests left with a smile and wanted to know when we could book the homes again!

Wonderful Family Vacation

My three little girls loved their upstairs Swiss Chalet bedroom, fishing for perch and bass in the pond, and watching the turtles sun themselves. I picked herbs from the garden to flavor the dinners we cooked at the outdoor kitchen. How relaxing to watch the stars at night, too.

Couldn't get the girls away from the Dance Barn with its disco lights and fog machine. Dave loved the old Bar signs and the antique ice cream table.

I think we all came away a little spoiled.

Restful Getaway

Such a welcome change from my busy schedule in Malta. Every way I looked, there was a different beautiful view. Loved the breakfast out on the covered patio looking over the pond. Great for evening cocktails, too. And the barn reminded me of a John Wayne movie.

What a thrill to see the gorgeous Arabian horses running in fields, their silhouettes against the sunset. Like being on a movie set.
