We live in a very nice part of town, located between the Presidio Heights and Seacliff neighborhoods. We are a block from buses that can take you downtown, to the cable cars, to Fisherman's Wharf, to Golden Gate Park and north to Napa or Sonoma's wine country (about an hour north). In Golden Gate Park you will find the world-famous Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Museum -- this is a great outing for a bike ride from our house. World class restaurants are in abundance here, with every conceivable cuisine. Lake Tahoe is 3 hours away, and the world famous Pebble Beach and city of Carmel are about 2.5 hours in the other direction.
Our main floor has the living room with a beautiful gas fireplace, adjacent dining room (also with a beautiful, but non-functional, fireplace), kitchen, breakfast nook and powder room. A large sliding glass door leads straight from the kitchen nook into the backyard (I think this is why I bought the house so many years ago - in hilly San Francisco this is such a rarety!). The kitchen and breakfast nook get loads of nice light and are decorated by a captivating wall painting simulating the outdoors. The living and dining rooms are cozy and comforting for evening entertaining and lounging around. Depending on where the sun is and the time of day, we also have a large sunny deck in the front of the house that, because of the elevation above the garage, is a private place to hang out and enjoy the sunshine.
The second floor has the 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom (queen sized bed) with en suite bathroom is in the back of the house, and the other two bedrooms (each with a queen bed) share the second full bath. There is also a laundry room on this floor.
The third floor is the attic that has been converted into a cozy family room and office area. We spend a great deal of time in this room - it gets nice light through a skylight and at night is the perfect place for our 'dinner and a movie' nights. We play board games, do puzzles and dine at the 'game table' in this room, then recline on the very comfortable couch to read or watch movies (this couch has a pull-out full-size bed that can sleep two people who like each other). We also have two side-by-side computers here for my son and me to work at.
Our house is five minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, gateway to Sausalito and wine country. While located amidst a thriving urban environment, we nonetheless live with the wilderness, great hiking and stunning beaches within walking distance of our home. Our home is a single family detached home, with a lawn in the backyard - it is hard to imagine that we live in a major urban environment when we are sitting in our sunny backyard reading the Sunday newspapers, or heading off for an afternoon at the beach! On the weekends, we walk to the Golden Gate Bridge or to Baker Beach (a gorgeous beach dominated by a view of the Golden Gate Bridge). We live adjacent to the lovely Presidio, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation area, full of trails and lovely vistas. Still, we are less than 15 minutes from downtown, from Fisherman's Wharf, from Golden Gate Park and from Marin County. Our home was built around 1906 in a beautifully rendered Edwardian style.
