Convenient, affordable and comfortable place for Cherry Blossom weekend
This property was very accurately described by the owner in the advertisement. I was coordinating a place for family to say, total of 9 adults, for a weekend in DC, and the other places on VRBO were easily three times as expensive in DC area. We had a fabulous weekend, and the owner was extremely helpful and responsive when I had questions about keys, security system, wifi, all which were functioned fine
Pros:
Bedrooms were clean, comfortable beds and clean sheets. There are only 2 bathrooms, something to consider if you have a large party, but they were clean, good water pressure, and the hot water never ran out! Plenty of clean towels for everyone. Nicely decorated living/dining room, small but clean and comfortable. There is ample street parking, and spot for one car in the back behind a locked gate. Re: access to metro, it is walkable to both blue and orange lines, very convenient. There were plenty of plates and mugs/drinking glasses, and silverware in the kitchen, as well as full size microwave, coffee maker, clean full size fridge and oven/stove. Kitchen is small with limited counter space, but fully functional.
Things to consider;
Not advisable for people without a car. While the metro is walking distance, it is a long walk, and depending on your comfort level with predominantly African American neighborhoods, you may feel uncomfortable (but of course this is highly individual). I felt perfectly fine walking to and from metro, but after dark I would not walk it alone - we walked in a large group and felt fine. I had a car, and dropped my relatives off at the metro when they left for airport... not sure to get a taxi in that neighborhood unless somehow prearranged. There are metro buses that can take you from near the house to the metro, but the schedule is not easily found- owner may consider providing this bus schedule along with the metro map which was in the house already. Safeway/cvs quite close by car, but would be a 15 minute walk I think. No bathroom on main level (one upstairs, and one in basement)
To improve; several of the light switches didn't work on the wall upstairs, and some of the outlets in the bedrooms did not work. There were no kitchen towels (luckily I brought my own). Several key kitchen items would be nice, like a colander, and any kind of microwave-safe dish to heat up vegetables. Not sure if AC was functional, the upstairs stayed pretty warm at night, but the main floor and basement remained cool
