(My quote may differ than auto-calculated quote. Please view the rental's calendar before sending an inquiry. The calendar is up-to-date. Kindly note that reservations that are more than 30 days in the future sometimes require a 7 night minimum stay.)

Beautiful apartment (top floor with street level access) with very special garden. This 1100 sq ft newly renovated & artfully designed top-floor flat is an oasis offering a view that looks over a tree-filled panorama that takes in the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco skyline often framed within a dramatic sunset.

This flat is completely private with private access to the flat and the deck. Access is from street level, through the front door. It feels more like a single-family house than an apartment.

One great advantage to this location is its micro climate, usually sunny and warm with no fog! It is located in the Maxwell Park neighborhood of Oakland (check it out on Wikipedia).

Located on a quiet one-block residential street, the home has the feeling of a retreat. The expansive back deck overlooks a lush garden where you may lounge, or soak in the pergola-covered hot tub. Depending on the season, you may eat plums, figs, or apples right off their trees. And you may find yourself entertained by the antics of many humming birds.

Every room in the home, except for one bedroom and the bathroom, has lovely views. One bedroom offers a view of the San Francisco Bay, even from the bed! From this bedroom a French door opens onto a curved deck that has cushy seating. Each bedroom has a very comfortable, queen-size bed. The bathroom has been updated with tile and granite. A full-size washer and dryer are located off the bathroom, hidden by a closed pocket door.

The kitchen is fully furnished with cookware, utensils, and place settings. The kitchen décor is vintage and features a Wedgewood gas cook stove.

The Deck extends the entire width of the flat. Deck access is also available from the kitchen area, and this deck area is furnished with a bar-height table where you can enjoy a repast with your fellow guests.

A desk work area is available and wireless internet access is provided.

As an antidote to work, you may cozy up to the gas fireplace and watch the 41 inch flat screen television (satellite DirecTV).

You are minutes from the peaceful groves of a hidden forest of redwoods in the Redwood Regional Park’s 1,829 acres where you may mountain bike, hike, or picnic. You are within walking distance to Mills College (1/10th of a mile) and you are 16 minutes from UC Berkeley. The location’s proximity to the 580 Freeway gives you fast access to many attractions including Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, Grand Lake Theater (movies), the Paramount Theater (live music), and many excellent restaurants. You are only a 23 minute drive from San Francisco, but you may prefer to take the scenic ferry that will deliver you to the SF Ferry Building (and its many wonderful markets) or to Fisherman’s wharf. 15 minutes from Oakland Airport! 37 minutes from- San Francisco International Airport!

About The Owner

The photo is of me in front of the house. My husband and I travel frequently and whenever possible we rent a home or apartment rather than stay in a hotel. We value comfort and convenience and keep in mind our own expectations and preferences when furnishing our rental. If given a choice, we will always choose a home with a garden, and a hot tub is always a bonus. After a day of touring and sight seeing, we enjoy sitting in a beautiful outside setting, enjoying each other and a glass of wine. We want to provide you with the best possible lodging experience to complement your enjoyment of the Bay Area. We are huge fans of the Bay Area and enjoy its offerings of beautiful nature and urban delights as though we are tourists. My husband was a frequent Bay Area visitor (from New England) when I met him here through mutual friends 8 years ago. After I spent two cold north eastern winters with him, he came to his senses and moved to the temperate climate of the Bay Area. We married 5 years ago, and he has no regrets about relocating!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1992

Why The Owner chose Oakland

*Sunny, warm climate, no fog! *Views *Garden *Peaceful and Serene *Central proximity to the Bay and San Francisco, Napa Valley, and other tourist attractions. Within walking distance of Mills College. Close-knit neighborhood of middle class professionals.

What makes this apartment unique

Proximity to Bay Area/Napa tourist destinations. Very romantic and private for a love-nest get-away. Wonderful home for families visiting relatives. Great for Grandparents!

Quiet, Comfortable, Convenient and Spectacular

  • 5 of 5
Our reactions upon entering and experiencing this wonderful accommodation could have been filmed for HGTV, --lots of OMGs, come see this, way cool, amazing.... as we explored the interior and exterior of Fairbairn Oasis. You'll love the exterior hardscape and landscape designs---there are several outdoor living spaces, each created with its own theme and mood. My 3 year nephew loved picking from the apple tree and my sister and I enjoyed the hot tub. I also want to thank the owner Dee for the great binder she has put together, with info about the area, transportation, sights to see, locations of groceries, drug stores, restaurants, etc. as well as details about the apartment. We couldn't wait to get "home" each evening to enjoy the quiet comfort and experience the breathtaking views of the SF skyline. I hope that we will have the good fortune of staying here again in the near future.

My husband and I stayed at this VRBO June 30 to July 7. The only word that I can use to describe our experience is amazing. The pictures do not do justice to how comfortable and at home we felt while here. The added bonus of the use of the backyard with hot tub and fire pit area as well as the wonderful balcony complete with comfy chairs and the view of San Francisco. On July 4th the firework displays from the balcony, outstanding. Our California friends that joined us were delighted to be staying in such a lovely home. If you are planning a trip to Oakland or the San Francisco area I would definitely recommend that you stay here.

Quiet Oasis

  • 5 of 5
We just spent a week at Fairbairn Oasis and can’t say enough nice things. It’s located on a lovely quiet street with views of both San Fran & Oakland. Location was great, only 10-20 minutes from the Oakland Airport, O.Co Stadium to catch a ball game, Alameda or Jack London Square to catch the Ferry to SF and less time to I880 & I580 to explore outlying areas. The pictures are accurate it is a very clean and lovely home with everything you need but groceries. The beds were very comfortable (I am picky) the towels luxurious. The bathroom was large and roomy and stocked with high end toiletries. Dee was very communicative and helpful. Our deposit was refunded the day of departure. Highly recommend this home for your Bay Area stay!

Perfect stay

  • 5 of 5
Our stay was absolutely perfect. Views were magnificent! My only regret was that we weren't able to spend enough time at the house. The apt was clean and very homey. Beds and linens were very comfortable! We didn't use the kitchen but it was well stocked. Will definitely stay again!!

Visited San Francisco but retreat to this little piece of paradise every night

  • 5 of 5
When we first stepped inside this house the first words out of our mouths was "wow". The pictures do not do this property justice. It is so beautiful and the views from the many windows are amazing. It is bright and cheery and so nicely decorated. This house is in such a cute neighborhood and you can tell that people take pride in their houses and yards. The house looks like a single story bungalow from the front with a nice front garden which has a bubbling water fountain. You walk in the main front door directly into your suite. The entire top floor is your suite with a huge private deck running the full width of the house at the back. If I had not been told that the owners had a walk out apartment on the lower level that that they access through a separate entrance I never would have known they were even there as this property has been built with privacy in mind. There is everything that you need in the house and always sufficient street parking so you don't have to worry about finding a place to park after a long day of sightseeing like you would if you were staying in San Francisco.
We took the toll bridge into San Francisco for sightseeing and it was a quick 15 minute commute, as long as you avoid rush hours, and you only had to pay approximately $4-6 CASH one way to cross the bridge. We are so happy that we stayed at this property rather than renting one in San Francisco. It was a quiet and relaxing place to retreat to every night with beautiful views of San Francisco and the bridges but still a very quick drive to experience the city everyday. Dee provided us with very helpful information about the area and things to do during our initial emails and they
were so quick in getting our deposit back to us. I would highly recommend this property.

Such an adorable hideaway!

My family I stayed at the Oasis for three days. I wish our stay had been longer! The house is spacious, neatly decorated, and equipped with everything you might need. The owners were great to work with and even offered recommendations on dining and things to do in the area. We would definitely stay there again if we return to the area!

Notes:
Panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay and San Francisco and Oakland city skylines. Beautiful, serene lush garden with sitting areas, meditation area, and pergola-covered hot tub with adjacent decks. A meditation patio, over-looked by a statue of the compassionate Quan Yin, allows you to sit and contemplate the beauty of a redwood framed by an arbor. At the back of the garden, a firepit-- circled by comfortable chairs-- allows for fireside evenings where you can feel you're on a camp-out. Our favorite backyard being is a huge poplar tree --a condo for many birds and other wildlife-- that we think may be the largest in the Bay Area. When it has its leaves, its swaying creates a beautiful music of chattering leaves and serves up afternoon shade for the deck. In almost every season, there is some fresh fruit: plums, apples, figs, or blackberries.
