Beautiful apartment (top floor with street level access) with very special garden. This 1100 sq ft newly renovated & artfully designed top-floor flat is an oasis offering a view that looks over a tree-filled panorama that takes in the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco skyline often framed within a dramatic sunset.
This flat is completely private with private access to the flat and the deck. Access is from street level, through the front door. It feels more like a single-family house than an apartment.
One great advantage to this location is its micro climate, usually sunny and warm with no fog! It is located in the Maxwell Park neighborhood of Oakland (check it out on Wikipedia).
Located on a quiet one-block residential street, the home has the feeling of a retreat. The expansive back deck overlooks a lush garden where you may lounge, or soak in the pergola-covered hot tub. Depending on the season, you may eat plums, figs, or apples right off their trees. And you may find yourself entertained by the antics of many humming birds.
Every room in the home, except for one bedroom and the bathroom, has lovely views. One bedroom offers a view of the San Francisco Bay, even from the bed! From this bedroom a French door opens onto a curved deck that has cushy seating. Each bedroom has a very comfortable, queen-size bed. The bathroom has been updated with tile and granite. A full-size washer and dryer are located off the bathroom, hidden by a closed pocket door.
The kitchen is fully furnished with cookware, utensils, and place settings. The kitchen décor is vintage and features a Wedgewood gas cook stove.
The Deck extends the entire width of the flat. Deck access is also available from the kitchen area, and this deck area is furnished with a bar-height table where you can enjoy a repast with your fellow guests.
A desk work area is available and wireless internet access is provided.
As an antidote to work, you may cozy up to the gas fireplace and watch the 41 inch flat screen television (satellite DirecTV).
You are minutes from the peaceful groves of a hidden forest of redwoods in the Redwood Regional Park’s 1,829 acres where you may mountain bike, hike, or picnic. You are within walking distance to Mills College (1/10th of a mile) and you are 16 minutes from UC Berkeley. The location’s proximity to the 580 Freeway gives you fast access to many attractions including Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, Grand Lake Theater (movies), the Paramount Theater (live music), and many excellent restaurants. You are only a 23 minute drive from San Francisco, but you may prefer to take the scenic ferry that will deliver you to the SF Ferry Building (and its many wonderful markets) or to Fisherman’s wharf. 15 minutes from Oakland Airport! 37 minutes from- San Francisco International Airport!

The photo is of me in front of the house. My husband and I travel frequently and whenever possible we rent a vacation home rather than stay in a hotel. We value comfort and convenience and keep in mind our own expectations and preferences when furnishing our rental. We will always choose a home with a garden, and a hot tub is always a bonus. After a day of touring and sight seeing, we enjoy sitting in a beautiful outside setting, enjoying each other and a glass of wine. We want to provide you with the best possible lodging experience to complement your enjoyment of the Bay Area. We are huge fans of the Bay Area and enjoy its offerings of beautiful nature and urban delights as though we are tourists. My husband was a frequent Bay Area visitor (from New England) when I met him here through mutual friends 12 years ago. After I spent two cold north eastern winters with him, he came to his senses and moved to the temperate climate of the Bay Area. We married 10 years ago, and he has no regrets about relocating!
Delores Fisher purchased this apartment in 1992
*Sunny, warm climate, no fog! *Views *Garden *Peaceful and Serene *Central proximity to the Bay and San Francisco, Napa Valley, and other tourist attractions. Within walking distance of Mills College. Close-knit neighborhood of middle class professionals.
Proximity to Bay Area/Napa tourist destinations. Very romantic and private for a love-nest get-away. Wonderful home for families visiting relatives. Great for Grandparents!
We booked this apartment home hoping we could use it as a base to re-explore the San Fransisco Bay area. We were very happy with the location, the cleanliness and charm of this property. The views of Oakland and San Fransisco are stunning! Our only regret is that we didn't get as much time just to spend in the home as we would like to next time. We will definitely choose this spot again on our next trip to the bay area.
During our 4-day stay my colleague and I visited friends at some Silicon Valley firms (to the southwest), hiked through Muir Woods (to the northwest), and wandered the streets of San Francisco (Alcatraz, Golden Gate, Fisherman's Wharf, world-class restaurants). Nothing was more than an hour's drive away, with great views to enjoy at every turn. I would definitely plan to stay here again on my next visit!
A truly delightful place! Lovely décor, spotlessly clean, comfortable, spacious and the view is amazing! A great 'home' to come back to at the end of a busy day, or equally perfect for catching up on some R & R. We loved taking the Alameda/Oakland ferry as transportation to downtown SF - highly recommended. Very close to Oracle Arena - the highlight for our son was seeing a Warriors game. We would love to come back again!
This is a fabulous place, affordably priced and in a great location. We used it for a small business meeting during the day while staying there. Comfortable house, great neighborhood, spectacular view, lush gardens - it has it all. And the owners were responsive ahead of time. They had thought of many small things that made the stay easier for me, like an extra key, clear instructions about all the things in the house, and a welcoming feel. THis is the best VRBO I have ever used, and I have used many!
Ditto to all of the comments from other reviewers. (Amazing, peaceful, well decorated, everything you need, beds comfortable, kitchen well appointed, etc.) I would add that every inch of the home is clean, clean, clean! Every little detail has been thoughtfully provided (shopping bags for the grocery store, hot tub towels, binoculars sitting at just the right place to study the INCREDIBLE view, step-by-step instructions for the DVD player and TV!! Halleluia!) But my greatest delight was a bookshelf filled with wonderful paperback books, atlases, pamphlets to local sites, all artfully placed. There was a drawer of DVD treasures, a stack of perfect children's books, etc. Dee even has a delightful description of each of the trees and flowering vines on the property to satisfy your wonderings about what they might be. No matter how many days you have reserved this magical oasis, it won't be enough! Thank you Dee!!!
It was our privilege to stay in this wonderful home and welcome the New Year. Like all the previous reviews this house lives up to every photo and description posted. The vintage aspects of the home were delightful. It is clean and maintained at a high standard which we appreciated. The views were beyond belief and will be a highlight of our family's memories for years to come. Dee was an excellent communicator and professional in every aspect. We are grateful that we were able to stay here.
