The most beautiful place on Earth

I've known since I was 8 years old that Campobello is my favorite place in the world to be. This vacation just reaffirmed that belief.
The description of the home was right on, and it did fit our family's needs perfectly, just as we expected. Though the layout is a little different (the kitchen is upstairs on the second floor) once we got accustomed to it, we understood that this layout, with the main living areas on the second floor, takes best advantage of the amazing views.
Neva (the owner) is always prompt in replying to our questions and has a local woman clean and maintain the property well.
While there are very few restaurants on the Island, the Barrel Well Restaurant/Bakery has a nice menu - though is open only July & August. Neva's home has most everything you'd need to cook GREAT meals in the kitchen. As for shopping, be sure to bring the bulk of your groceries with you at your initial border crossing. The prices at the Island Co-op are higher than the mainland stores. The gift shops and galleries on the Island are worth browsing through, and Lubec, Maine, just across the bridge, has come a LONG way in recent years with a great Sardine packing museum in the old fish-smoking shacks, shops with local artisans' wares, restaurants, coffee shop/bakery (with yummy, yummy muffins) and beauty.
We went out with Captain Riddle for a whale watch, and though we saw no whales that day (none of the whale watch boats from the Island nor from St Andrews had luck), Captain Riddle has fishing poles on board and we turned the trip into a fishing trip for the kids. We caught mackerel, which we later cooked over a fire on one of the Island beaches. You can find Captain Riddle's "office" right on the main road, at Friar's Bay Beach (it's a small building that looks like a lighthouse). There are other whale watch outfits on the Island, but this is the second time we've been out with Brandon, and he's a really kind, knowledgeable guy.
Be sure to visit the Roosevelt International Park, and get your tickets for Tea with Eleanor - Carolyn has so many wonderful stories of Eleanor's life to tell. The trails and beaches of the Park are among the best I've ever seen! (just don't expect white sands and warm water). You need to love nature to truly enjoy Campobello and all the natural beauty it has to offer ... there is just so much I can't possibly describe it all here!
