Beautiful Log Treehouse: We bought this cabin in the summer of 2009 and feel so fortunate to be able to share it with guests and friends and family. All three of our kids (now grown) love coming here to kayak, fish, golf, bird watch, relax and explore with their families. Our cabin is nestled high up in Pecan, Sycamore, Mimosa and Redbud trees. The view from the upper deck is fantastic. Great for bird watching. We hear the owls at night and watch red tailed hawks make nests and raise their babies. We have left the chicken coop standing as some day we hope to retire here and raise a small flock. You can't beat this for a perfect vacation spot whether you're wanting adventure or relaxation.
Most Historic Town in Texas: Bastrop is known as the 'most historic small town in Texas'. Historic Main Street has lots of interesting shops great for hunting antiques, great restaurants, live music in the evenings and a good old down home environment. There are an abundance of parks, several excellent golf courses, places to rent bikes and kayaks, live theater at the Bastrop Opera House and incredible historic homes. We're only 40 minutes from Austin and 30 minutes from the Austin Bergstrom Airport
Steve and I (Linda) live in Austin, TX. Steve has a tile installation business in Austin and I am a counselor. Steve was born in west Texas. I'm from New Jersey but have lived more than half my life in Texas. Our children were all born in Houston. We love Austin and the surrounding area especialy Bastrop and may retire there one day.
Steve Smith and Linda Scott purchased this cabin in 2009
We were so lucky to find this incredible cabin on the Colorado River in Bastrop that was previously owned by a friend of my sister. Once we saw how beautiful and peaceful it was we couldn't believe our good luck. We fell in love! It's such an incredible place for our family to gather. We fish, swim, kayak, ride bicycles, play ping pong and, oh yes, completely relax from the stresses of our busy lives.
The back yard has a private dock where you can sit and fish or launch a small boat or kayak. The cabin is kept immaculately clean. It's so spacious with vaulted ceilings in the living room. The Mayan family hammock is always up inside the cabin but can easily be hooked up on the upper deck. It's hard to find a more peaceful experience than having breakfast or coffee on the deck overlooking the river.
Linda and Family,
What a great place to celebrate the New Year! This spot was ideal for my son to use the canoe he received for Xmas! We cruised up and down the river - even at night w/ our spotlight. We caught 3 bass. One we ate for dinner :). We played ping pong and my youngest son never wanted to get out of the hammock! Your cabin is lovely. What a nice break from the city.
Thank you, Thank you
Very nice cabin on the river, very clean & welcoming. River is a bit low so fishing was not that good. Only complaint which is no fault of the owners is encountering a loose pit bull while fishing. Very convenient to town!
I am going to give the kind of review that I would think would be helpful if you considering booking.
1. The owners are super attentive, which is great if you have questions
2. Property is very nice
a. Beds are super comfortable & Rooms are big
b. Has a hammock that was surprisingly wonderful
c. Right on the water
d. Kitchen is stocked with pretty much everything you need
e. Very well kept and clean
f. Loved the large stand up shower
g. Fire pit in the back is fun for that outdoor feel
h. Very close to the state park where we were able to fish a little
I. Has washer / dryer so you don't need to pack a ton
J. The 8 year old had a blast, and with no TV that's saying a lot.
a. A tad bit pricey, but I understand they want a clientele that will not destroy their property
b. The property is on very high pillars, so there's quite a stair climb (not ideal for older folks)
c. The property is on somewhat of a hill, so walking down to the water and back up to the property is once again a bit of a task for older folks
d. There was really no fishing in the river and that's what we hoped to do most of the time.
e. The neighbors are closer then we would have hoped. Not that it was a big deal, because it wasn't...we just thought that we would have been more secluded
Overall, we really enjoyed it. If we would have known that there would have been no fish, we would have prepared differently...maybe finding places close by to visit. The owners are really helpful and it's a place we would recommend to youngers families. We wouldn't take my father (78) there again just because of all the levels and we would probably recommend going in warmer weather.
Thanks Linda & Steve! Happy Holidays,
What a lovely, peaceful treehouse right on the river! It had a remote feeling while being close enough to pop over to Bastrop to shop, do some wine tasting, and enjoy delicious tacos before returning to relax and chat on the porch. Nicely decorated, luxurious shower, soft sheets and good quality beds, equipped kitchen with lovely stoneware for our cheese and crackers. I went for a girls' weekend with a friend, and I'd love to go back with my family sometime. Definitely recommend it!
Just want to thank you for a wonderful experience at your river-house this past weekend. Loved the ping-pong table and the accessibility to the outdoors. We caught a bass, a couple of extremely large gar and enough perch to keep everyone interested ;).
We cannot wait to bring the family next time.
Thanks so much again!
We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin! The Colorado River was literally steps away from the lower patio, and the view was beautiful! Loved the hammock and outdoor swing, and the ping-pong table provided hours of entertainment. Everything on the inside of the cabin appeared new, clean, and well-maintained. I also appreciated the helpful little how-to notes for the appliances in the cabin. The town of Bastrop was charming, and we were even able to contact a canoe company that was willing to deliver a canoe to the dock behind the cabin which was super convenient, and turned out to be a blast. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone traveling with 4-6 people, because it's really a great value for the cost. We plan on booking this cabin again hopefully sometime soon!
Lovely cabin! Right on the river--just steps away! My boys had so much fun in the hammock! Who would have thought a hammock could bring such happiness to my two boys--they were fighting over who would get to sit in it next. Precious! We brought our canoe and had such a great time on the water! Caught three nice sized bass which we cooked for dinner. The cabin has all the supplies you need for cooking any meal--that was greatly appreciated. The next door neighbor was so sweet inviting my husband to his house to watch the end of a big football game at his house when he saw my hubby sitting in the truck listening to the game on the radio :-)
Shower was heavenly and the tile work beautiful! We enjoyed all the touches put into this cabin. Great to have the games there, too....we had some great domino and card games....back to the basics with the kids. SO NICE to get them off the xbox and have good family time!!
We will definitely be back! Made some awesome memories here--thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!
