AMAZING LOG TREEHOUSE CABIN RIGHT ON THE COLORADO RIVER

Bastrop Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, full bathroom with huge walk in shower, sleeps 6

Beautiful River Front Log Cabin Treehouse with the Colorado River running through the back yard. This newly remodeled 2 bedroom 1300 sq ft cabin has a wrap around upper deck for spectacular views of the river, gas grill; spacious living room with vaulted ceiling; stone gas fireplace; Mayan family indoor/outdoor hammock; Sleeps 6 king and queen bedrooms and very comfortable pull out sofa bed; fully equipped kitchen with all amenities; large bathroom with huge walk-in stone and glass tiled shower; washer/dryer; ping pong table, picnic table and porch swing on downstairs patio; private dock great for fishing and kayaking. Only 2 miles from historic downtown Bastrop; 25 miles from the airport (AUS) and 40 minute drive from Austin. Golfing, kayaking, bicycling, shopping, fishing, live theater, antique shops, farmer's markets.

Beautiful Log Treehouse: We bought this cabin in the summer of 2009 and feel so fortunate to be able to share it with guests and friends and family. All three of our kids (now grown) love coming here to kayak, fish, golf, bird watch, relax and explore with their families. Our cabin is nestled high up in Pecan, Sycamore, Mimosa and Redbud trees. The view from the upper deck is fantastic. Great for bird watching. We hear the owls at night and watch red tailed hawks make nests and raise their babies. We have left the chicken coop standing as some day we hope to retire here and raise a small flock. You can't beat this for a perfect vacation spot whether you're wanting adventure or relaxation.

Most Historic Town in Texas: Bastrop is known as the 'most historic small town in Texas'. Historic Main Street has lots of interesting shops great for hunting antiques, great restaurants, live music in the evenings and a good old down home environment. There are an abundance of parks, several excellent golf courses, places to rent bikes and kayaks, live theater at the Bastrop Opera House and incredible historic homes. We're only 40 minutes from Austin and 30 minutes from the Austin Bergstrom Airport

About Steve Smith and Linda Scott

Steve and I (Linda) live in Austin, TX. Steve has a tile installation business in Austin and I am a counselor. Steve was born in west Texas. I'm from New Jersey but have lived more than half my life in Texas. Our children were all born in Houston. We love Austin and the surrounding area especialy Bastrop and may retire there one day.

Steve Smith and Linda Scott purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Steve Smith and Linda Scott chose Bastrop

We were so lucky to find this incredible cabin on the Colorado River in Bastrop that was previously owned by a friend of my sister. Once we saw how beautiful and peaceful it was we couldn't believe our good luck. We fell in love! It's such an incredible place for our family to gather. We fish, swim, kayak, ride bicycles, play ping pong and, oh yes, completely relax from the stresses of our busy lives.

What makes this cabin unique

The back yard has a private dock where you can sit and fish or launch a small boat or kayak. The cabin is kept immaculately clean. It's so spacious with vaulted ceilings in the living room. The Mayan family hammock is always up inside the cabin but can easily be hooked up on the upper deck. It's hard to find a more peaceful experience than having breakfast or coffee on the deck overlooking the river.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Linda and Family,

What a great place to celebrate the New Year! This spot was ideal for my son to use the canoe he received for Xmas! We cruised up and down the river - even at night w/ our spotlight. We caught 3 bass. One we ate for dinner :). We played ping pong and my youngest son never wanted to get out of the hammock! Your cabin is lovely. What a nice break from the city.

Thank you, Thank you

Our expectations were far exceeded!

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin! The Colorado River was literally steps away from the lower patio, and the view was beautiful! Loved the hammock and outdoor swing, and the ping-pong table provided hours of entertainment. Everything on the inside of the cabin appeared new, clean, and well-maintained. I also appreciated the helpful little how-to notes for the appliances in the cabin. The town of Bastrop was charming, and we were even able to contact a canoe company that was willing to deliver a canoe to the dock behind the cabin which was super convenient, and turned out to be a blast. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone traveling with 4-6 people, because it's really a great value for the cost. We plan on booking this cabin again hopefully sometime soon!

Great get-away from it all weekend!

  • 5 of 5
Lovely cabin! Right on the river--just steps away! My boys had so much fun in the hammock! Who would have thought a hammock could bring such happiness to my two boys--they were fighting over who would get to sit in it next. Precious! We brought our canoe and had such a great time on the water! Caught three nice sized bass which we cooked for dinner. The cabin has all the supplies you need for cooking any meal--that was greatly appreciated. The next door neighbor was so sweet inviting my husband to his house to watch the end of a big football game at his house when he saw my hubby sitting in the truck listening to the game on the radio :-)
Shower was heavenly and the tile work beautiful! We enjoyed all the touches put into this cabin. Great to have the games there, too....we had some great domino and card games....back to the basics with the kids. SO NICE to get them off the xbox and have good family time!!
We will definitely be back! Made some awesome memories here--thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

Amazing Get Away!

  • 5 of 5
Dear Linda and Steve,

My fiance and I had an absolutely lovely stay at your cabin! Its incredibly comfortable and homey and has every amenity you could ever want (even an ice cream maker!), without losing that "away from it all" feeling we were looking for. I had pretty much the perfect morning drinking my coffee on the porch while watching and listening to the wildlife on the river and reading my book. My fiance got up super early and cruised the river in our small flat bottom and had a ball fishing - we even caught our dinner for that day. In the evening, we took the boat out again and had a sunset ride along the river. It reminded me so much of my adventures in South America, with the greenery, frog songs, balmy air and amazing sunsets. I imagine the river is a little clearer in winter, but that didn't stop us from a night swim, which I highly recommend to everyone who visits. Thank you so much for your hospitality - we will definitely be booking with you again and look forward to our next adventures on the river!

Owner's Response: Steve and I are so delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our cabin. I guess we're going to have to try that night swim. Sounds absolutely delightful and would definitely be a bit of an adventure for us "older folks"! We're looking forward to you and your fiance returning.

We enjoyed the stay; peaceful and comfortable.

The music system was wonderful. I really enjoyed the upstairs porch and hammock. The water in the river was stagnant and uninviting so that was disappointing but probably should have know given the heat and the drought. Bastrop State Park was fun despite the devastation from the fires.

The listing was described accurately. The location was good. The property was clean. Kitchen ware could have been of better quality, ie wine glasses, forks and knifes, etc. (I am just looking for something to critic). The owner returned calls in a timely manner. I would recommend the property. We enjoyed shopping at Mary Janes (?) vintage shop and eating at Maxines (?) (Poor memory for names).

Owner's Response: Sounds like there were so many things you enjoyed about your stay at our cabin. I'm sorry that you were disappointed in the river. It's true that the river is lower right now due to lack of rain, but the river is still flowing. Fishing and kayaking or canoeing are still wonderful options for enjoying the river as well as enjoying the views from the upper deck. We hope you will be able to return and wish you all the best.

What a relaxing, lovely stay! The house is simple, comfortable, clean, well-kept and tastefully decorated. Our friend arrived about an hour before us, and when we called to ask how it was, he said it was nice. We probed and asked how the inside was, and found he hadn't made it past the porch swing!

We spent much of the time on the upstairs deck, but it was nice to have the downstairs patio if you wanted to spread out. We brought food, and they had the basics there: dishes, pots & pans, silverware, coffee, foil, pepper with a grinder and coarse salt. Made chili Friday night, breakfast both mornings, and ate in Bastrop Saturday evening at the Roadhouse. Casual, great burgers and ice cold beer.

Took a picnic to Buescher State Park, then made the park road drive to the back entrance of Bastrop State Park. Some lovely scenery, then sobering drive through Bastop State Park. Sad to see so much fire damage, but you can tell the renewal is happening.

Loved sitting on the deck, watching the hawks, hearing the frogs, and had a couple of woodpecker sightings. We all decided we could have stayed for several more days. We weren't quite ready to leave on Sunday! Would definitely consider a trip back and will recommend to friends. Thank you for the hospitality!
