Allen/Rhonda Sanders purchased this cottage in 2012
We have lived on Lake Hawkins for over 10 years in a fabulous log home and my neighbor decided to sell her little weekend place. So with a little TLC and my wife's creativity, we fashioned this great little cottage into something that looks like it belongs on a Montana river or off the coast of Maine. Its pitched ceiling, exposed beams and a tastefully-decorated fishing motiff, just feels like you're miles from everything.
We really enjoyed our weekend at the cottage even though it turned rainy and cold. The first day was beautiful for sitting on the dock and reading. The lake was very calm and serene! It turned windy and cold the second day but we still had a great view from all of the windows. We loved watching the squirrel steal food from the bird feeder then scamper away into the woods behind the cottage! The Italian restaurant just down the road was a great choice for dinner. This was just the right distance for a weekend away and we will definitely return!
My husband and I wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing for one last getaway before our first baby arrives in February. This little cottage was perfect for that! We also loved that our dog was welcome, and she enjoyed country life for a few days. Pregnancy hormones kicked in as I got choked up not wanting to leave!
We had a great time. We wish the weather had cooperated. Two things that would help make our stay better next time. A tall toilet for people who have had knee replacement and a roof over the deck...
It doesn't get any better than this perfect little cottage. It was private and quiet and so clean! I enjoyed walking down to the early in the morning and sitting on the dock, watching the sunrise while drinking my coffee. The screened in cabana was a wonderful spot to sit and read and look out at the beautiful lake. The cottage has everything you need and Allen was a wonderful host. I enjoyed it so much that I extended my stay and extra day. I'll be back!!!
Scrupulously clean, even the windows. Tastefully decorated. Amenities plentiful and modern. (Don't look like they came from a thrift shop.) Taste of Italy was superb. Well maintained. Very scenic. Lots of lakes around. Private. Only complaints-- no land line and cell phones don't work. Bed pretty uncomfortable. Maybe it has just been around too long.
We rent a cabin/cottage somewhere different each year and this one ranks right up there.
We had a great time - I would highly recommend this property! Allen and Rhonda were perfect hosts (attentive but not intrusive). The lake was beautiful, clear & clean. The cottages were comfortable and well equipped. My oldest son, who joined us along with his wife and 3 children, summed it up best and I quote "that was the best time we have ever had at the lake"!
Thanks again Allen and Rhonda!
