Serene, private setting offers remarkable solitude on 7 acres of rolling greens in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Awaken to wild life strolling across the field while relaxing on the spacious, covered balcony off the kitchen, enjoying your morning coffee. This home is complete with gardens, private hot tub just outside the master bedroom, adjoining the large deck off the main living area. All of this overlooks beautiful Seneca Lake with its crisp mornings and evening sunsets.

Our home is less than a mile from all of your favorite wineries, so whether you want to go 'tasting', hike the trails at Watkins Glen Gorge or the Finger Lakes National Forest, or simply relax on the backyard hammock, you may never want to return to the stress of the real world!

About The Owner

My husband grew up in the Finger Lakes and always wanted to return to the 'calm', so we visited in 2002. It took one week to decide to buy property here, and we began the three year experience of building our own unique home away from home. Since we are builders by profession, it was not too difficult to make the decision. Our kids were grown, and we really loved the peace and quiet that this place provided. Our home really does reflect the happy part of ourselves, the simple way we look at life. We hope you find the comfort level you need here, at your home away from home.

Why The Owner chose Hector

We loved to visit wine country in the Napa Valley and longed for that kind of beauty here in the east. This property was quite a discovery! So we built this home ourselves, with our own two hands, on the weekends. It took us three years. We both grew up in the country, my husband here in the Finger Lakes, myself in western PA. The city life had gotten to us!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

There are no other houses or cottages visible in any direction on this property, affording exceptional privacy. Conveniently located so close to Watkins Glen, a quick trip to the store for a forgotten item is not an issue. The brand new Finger Lakes Distillery is just across the road (Rt.414), and wineries are less than a mile away. Some of the finest restaurants in the area are located on this Route 414 also, just a short distance from the house.

Wow! What a house! It is spacious and well maintained with lots of deck space. We enjoyed cooking family style meals most nights and lounging in the hot tub after a long day of hiking or touring wineries.
After five years of trying different places on Seneca, this looks like a good place to stay next year, especially with a group of people.

Family vacation

Had a great family vacation time. Needed 5 bedrooms and this place had them. LOVED the deck and porch, but we especially appreciated the porch since the weather was so hot. Ate every meal out there. Everyone had a wonderful time: hiked, wine tastings, games, swimming, etc. Very nice place in a great location.
The photos DID accurately portray the place and it was clean and well-kept. Thanks to owner Greg who put up with my numerous questions via e-mail and cheerfully answered every one!

Wonderful!

This house was perfect for what we were looking for. It suited our needs well as we had each generation on a different floor of the house. There was enough room that we didn't feel like we were on top of each other, even with two teenagers and two toddlers! The fire pit was great for s'mores and the hot tub was the perfect way to wind down. The view was not as clear as in the picture, probably because of summer time growth, but it was a beautiful view nontheless. Had we known the area a little better we may have picked something a little closer to Ithica, but the proximity to Watkins Glen and the state park was great. We also had no problems with the wifi:)

Quiet comfort

We spent four nights here with my cousin's family, 8 people in all, with kids ranging from 7 to 14. The house was immaculate, very roomy and comfortable, We loved the decks and the views. It was very quiet, which we also appreciated. The house is 30 minutes or less away from many great state parks, we enjoyed the waterfalls at Watkins Glen State Park and Treman (sp?) State Park near Ithaca -- a town which is worth a visit. As some have mentioned, the internet service was in-and-out, but not a huge concern. No question, we definitely would recommend this beautiful home and we hope to return!

Annual Wine / Golfing Trip

Every year, we (5 (almost) retired couples) meet in the FingerLakes for a week of good friends, good food, good wine and good times. We have done this for the past 8+ years and have always stayed in a different place . . . until this year. We have definately found a home that we will want to come back to year after year. The accomodations were supurb and modern with plenty of place for all of us to relax and read or gather and have a great time. The kitchen was well equiped (lots of pots and pans) and there was plenty of glassware (wine glasses, margarita glasses, etc). Although we had a little problem with the gas grill, there was a webber grill on site that we used as a backup. There were plenty of instructions of how to operate everything, but we did have trouble connecting to the internet. Oh well, a few days without the internet . . . we survived! We loved the view and watching the wildlife on the property (deer, wild turkeys). We are looking forward to going back again next year.
