Our family has been vacationing in the Manistee area for over 50 years, and have stayed at a number of cottages and homes along the Lake Michigan shore. The listing description simply cannot capture the beauty of the location, the myriad lake views from different rooms in the home and the grounds, the many lovely private areas artfully created on the property, not to mention the comfort, cleanliness, and artfully decorated home itself. The owners were available and responsive to questions, and provide a comprehensive scrap book/guide to area activities and amenities that begs to be added to (we did!) A final blessing: Roselle's Retreat is truly a retreat - no Wi-Fi (unless you bring your own I-Phone or android) that provided a sought after and needed respite from the onslaught of electronic media that occupies the remaining weeks of "real" life. Thank you, Gloria and Mark!

Nice Place, Nice Owners

We just visited this very nice cottage in Mid july and found it to be just as advertised. The owners were very nice and accomodating, overnight mailing an IPOD we lefto behind. The beach is beautiful with no rocks and several sandbars. The front porch is very nice with a great view. We spent hours playing shuffleboard in the evening. The kitchen is very small, but is typical of a cottage of this period. Overall a 9.5!

I found the vacation home of my dreams!

We just returned from spending a week at Roselle's Retreat, and we loved every minute of it. It has everything we've ever dreamed of having in a lakefront Lake Michigan home. The bluff, the gorgeous views of Lake Michigan from every angle of the yard and the house, the long walks on the beach (we walked three miles in both directions), swimming in the clean, clear water with completely sandy bottom, the beautiful yard, and all the sitting areas both inside and outside the house. The sunsets were beautiful, and we enjoyed the campfires at night while looking out over Lake Michigan with the moon shining on the water and watching the freighters go by in the distance. We definitely relaxed here and felt rested after our week's stay. The house itself is very inviting and comfortable, and very well thought out to accomodate our needs. What a comfortable, warm home.
There are apparently nice restaurants in the area and other things to do, but we never felt the need to leave because it had everything we wanted right here.

We hope to return next year and definitely recommend Roselles Retreat to others. .

A Bit of Paradise!

This lovely cottage is pure Michigan - the kind of place where we all wish we had grown up, spending family vacations together and creating a lifetime of memories. We were the guests of dear friends, and we were delighted to find that the cottage has all the amenities of home - full bath, full kitchen, and comfortable, beautifully appointed living and sleeping quarters. All areas of the cottage were modern, while retaining the northern Michigan ambiance we all seek up north. Our friends took us on local drives to visit beautiful stores, an artist's studio, estate sales, a weekend fair, and scenic places, as well as a visit to an amazing restaurant in Muskegon! While there was lots to do and see, the best part was the view - the pines and Lake Michigan, right at the back of the cottage. There is nothing on earth so relaxing as falling asleep to the lake's waves lapping at the shore. In short, the description of the cottage is right on target, the cottage is impeccably maintained, and we would highly recommend it for a vacation rental. We give it an 11 on a 10-point scale!

Wonderful Weekend Retreat

  • 5 of 5
  • Submitted: Sep 1, 2011

I have been lucky enough to stay at this Manistee rental on two different occasions, and have had a wonderful stay both times. The cottage sleeps 9 comfortably, and is well-sized for a bigger group (but still cozy with a small one). The bathroom is clean and stocked, with both a bathtub and a separate shower that has great water pressure. The kitchen contains up-to-date amenities, too, with several surfaces for cooking preparation. There are several rooms for relaxing inside, including a lovely enclosed porch that is clean and comfortable but still carries with it that rustic-cabin feel. Best of all, however, is the cottage's surroundings — a lovely backyard area with a shuffleboard court, swing benches and chairs for sitting, talking, meditating, or admiring the sunset. And the beach! Down the immediate set of steps to the water is the gorgeous white sand. I've always been taken by how quiet it is down there, even though there are other cottages nearby — it's possible to look both ways and be the only one within eyesight on the beach. There are plenty of items for use here — beach chairs, and what I think are longboards/bodyboards, though I've never used them.

I've also gone for several runs in the area, and have never felt unsafe on the road. Usually a beautiful, quiet run, past cottages, homes, and rows and rows of trees and grassland.

I cannot speak for the area's nearby restaurants, however, because I've never wanted to leave the cottage to go anywhere else. There have been times we've needed something from the store, and it is a lovely and short ride to the grocer's (you also pass a public beach area, nature trails, and a park on the way into town, all things that would be nice to check out). I would absolutely recommend this rental to friends and family, and hope to come back sometime again myself.
