The cabin is located under pines and scented cyders at an elevation of just under 3,000 ft on 17 acres of land off a quiet country rd that links both hwy 41 and hwy 140 which connect you to the west entrance of Yosemite and the South entrance of Yosemite. The cabin its self is situated 200 yards back of the road in a very peaceful setting. The cabin is available year round and has been available for vacation rental since June 2011. At the point of writing we have had 15 reviews while advertised with VRBO and all have been 5 stars and all our guest have enjoyed there stay. Here is just a sample of what they have had to say
A Perfect Gateway *****
What a great place! It's close enough to town but far enough out into the country to feel like you're completely away from it all. Rooms are very clean, updated and comfortable. Beds are great, kitchen amenities are plentiful and very clean. Free wi-fi and widescreen TV with cable were also an added bonus, all the comforts of home but still in the great outdoors. Owner was great, checked us in, gave us the tour and then we never saw them again (in a good way) so we had a feeling of complete privacy. They were there if we needed them, but not at all intrusive. We'll certainly stay here again when visiting the area. Thanks again for a wonderful time!
Family Irland *****
Lovely house with welcoming owner prepared to answer questions and provide any extras required. The cottage was well appointed and beautifully decorated, very quiet and a chance to recharge the batteries! You do need a car but the local town of Mariposa is worth a visit.
Great for Kids *****
We had such a nice time at The Gateway this past weekend. It was perfect in every way....so beautiful! We have a baby and preschooler and it was a great fit for our needs. Don and Sara were so nice and accommodating and have thought of everything for this nice place. Our 3 yr old loved the picnic table and exploring around the property. I loved the well stocked kitchen, washer and dryer on the patio and the nice updated bathroom. We hope to come back sometime soon!
Awesome place *****
The Gateway cabin was one of the BEST deals I have got in/near Yosemite. In addition to the affordable price, the place is just great! The cabin is recently renovated with fresh paint and new furniture. The bedrooms are a little small, but that didn't bother us. The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, silverware, refrigerator, microwave, cooking range, etc. The spacious patio faces a large open space and forest. At night, all you can hear is silence. There's enough space to park two cars. The owners' house is just next to the cabin, which some may not like, but we thought of it as company since the cabin is in a very sparsely populated area. We loved out stay here, the kids enjoyed it, and we will surely come back here.
Magnifique! *****
Nous avons adoré notre expérience à The Gateway!
The Cabin has old style solid tongue and groove flooring though out a queen size bed in each room with access to the internet and cable TV provided, we would encourage you to use the off button and enjoy a total change of pace. The BBQ area has a great view of the property and is a great place to hang under the shade of the tall trees, after an adventure filled day in Yosemite National Park. If you want to see the park, it is a big park so give yourself at least three days we do take booking of a minimum of two nights but it is hardly enough.
The cabin has all you will need for cooking having a gas stove, microwave, coffee pot, cooking utensils, and the BBQ is every ready to go.
Occasionally in winter we will get some snow it makes the place look great but it seldom stays on the ground more than a day. The drive to the park up hwy 140 takes about 40 minutes and follows the Merced River into the Western Gate of Yosemite National Park. In the summer months it is a great place to swim after a day in the mountains and the river is a rocky clear mountain stream which the avid fishermen will enjoy. When the river is up during the spring and early summer months white water rafting is also available.
The night sky here is amazing and unhindered by city lights of any kind. So be prepared to marvel at the stars just outside as you step out from under the trees.
Just out the rear gate is the access road to a small boutique winery called the butterfly Creek winery they offer wine tasting and a tour of the vine yard and it is also a great place to take a stroll if you find the time, with all there is to do in the wild surrounding The Gateway Cabin
We look forward to you stay with us and all I can say is we will do our best to make your stay with us memorable.
