Villa Eluna is located on Jalousie Road near Soufriere on the Island of St Lucia. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath villa features a 15x30 foot private pool and a one of kind, panoramic view of Petit Piton and the Caribbean Ocean. Its the only villa on 1.5 acres of natural landscape.
The villa has 3 walls made from adjustable louvered doors, windows and walls. They are as beautiful as they are secure and functional. They are covered with insect screen. They open and close easily to allow as much ocean breeze in as you desire.

...we headed to “Villa Eluna” in Soufriere in the South West of the island, positioned right beside the iconic Petit Piton and Gros Piton Volcanos. Our view and accommodations were heavenly. As soon as we walked into the villa, I gasped and was pumped for the rest of our stay on the island. If I were to ever venture back to St. Lucia, I’d want to bring some friends and stay here again...for the rest go the the blog http://wp.me/p1Zkjv-7p
First of all, a five-star rating to the (local) architect. There is one enormous main room, with ceiling-high jalousie windows which can be opened or left closed - but with insect screens and not glass. This means you can go indoors during the day and still enjoy the sunlight, the breeze - and the incomparable view. This avoids the usual problem where you are forced to choose between getting sunburned outside or being stuffy indoors. We all found the place both practical and beautiful (not a common combination, by any means).
For our eight-day stay we were hardly bothered by noise (see reviews below). The villa is not in a cloistered hotel compound: inevitably in the course of a week there will be road noise or sounds from people strimming weeds or doing building work, but in our experience this last was only for a few hours of our stay, and was not particularly annoying even then.
The pool was very well maintained (yes, there will be a few floating leaves by the end of each day - but this is the tropics - and I like the leaves). Fabulous gas barbecue and very good pool furniture and shades - though, as a warning to other pallid Brits, you can still get slightly sunburned under these as they only block some of the sunlight.
Indoors there are two super bedrooms with ceiling fans and very comfortable large beds. Well equipped kitchen. Large fridge freezer. Television with Apple TV. Slightly intermittent internet - but mostly works fairly well - and not bad by the standards of the island. Probably could do with a microwave, but no big deal.
Other commenters below are right: do hire a jeep rather than a sedan, and be careful on the concrete road to the villa (engage 4wd and go slowly) especially after rain. The road is perfectly safe but slippery when wet. Best to book a taxi to villa on first day and then get a jeep delivered the next day - I always do this, as I am not in the mood to deal with hire car bureacracy straight after a long flight. Also recommend getting food delivered to villa, or using the superb chef, Basil, as local shops are limited. Enjoyed visits to Boucan and the Mango Tree at Stonefield. Martha's Table is reputedly good, but was being renovated for the week of our stay.
The staff who will meet you and look after you - Jenifer, Ray, Chandler - are truly wonderful. They made what would have been a good stay in a wonderful building even better. I cannot thank them enough.
Would I stay there again? Definite yes.
I would have given this 3.5 if I could have. This property is now in need of some updates to bring it back up to the 4 or more level. It is not luxury, it is more rustic than I expected considering the pictures that lead you to believe it is 5 stars. There are many inconsistencies in the pictures. Many small things need fixing that do make a difference when you add them up (ie. sheets ripped/piling, taps rusting/loose, cracked window etc)
The staff are lovely, attentive and friendly. Although the housekeeping could have been a bit better (toilets didn't seem cleaned?) is supposed to be there from 9-3 3 days/week, but I can't figure out what she does for 6 hours. It was great to have the security guard. I never felt unsafe at all. It is recommended that you lock your doors at all times. The gardener does a wonderful job of maintaining the property.
Our major complaint is that this is not a house for a romantic getaway. It is noisy, and not at all secluded. They say it is on 1.5 acres which makes you think it is secluded. It is just off a main road that has large trucks rumbling up and down it all day. There are many properties all around it, although none of them can see the pool area. You look down upon the ugly roof of another property, and if there are residents you can here them clearly (ie. kids shouting). The construction is in full swing, and will probably get worse before it gets better. Right now they are working on villas down by the water. You can hear compressors all day and occasionally more noise such as jack hammers or diggers, and they have yet to start the main hotel. They were clearing bush (weedwacking) at 7am every morning. We knew this was a potential when booking, the noise was disappointing enough to warrant looking around for somewhere else to stay (unsuccessfully). We wound up spending most of our days away from the villa. On top of that noise there are roosters, dogs that bark constantly, goats etc.
As well the mosquitos are as bad as everyone says. You have to close up all the windows at 4:30 to mitigate them. This leaves the house dark and closed in feeling, you lose your wide open views, this was disappointing to us.
The central location is great, cabs to neighbouring properties and beaches were reasonable. The views out to the piton and ocean were amazing! But because of the noise, lack of seclusion and updates needed, I cannot recommend this property if you plan to spend most of your time at the villa relaxing.
First, the views of Petit Peton and Caribbean are even better than what you see on-line. It is a five star location. The villa is also a bit bigger than we expected. A major highlight was Chef Basil. We had him prepare two dinners. His menu's do not do justice to the food he prepares. It was outstanding. He is also very professional.
St. Lucian's are funny about driving. They seem to want to scare you; spending ten minutes trying to explain how to exit airport. It really isn't that hard and there is basically one major road on island. I drove for a week and found it much easier than many other islands or, for that matter, driving through Europe. The villa is isolated, so I would recommend renting a car or jeep. We got our jeep through Cool Breeze and it was pretty dated. No problems, but it didn't inspire confidence when we saw it.
The Villa could have been cleaner. It is 3 - 4 star in cleanliness and 5 star in location. Once you find the road it is on, it's hard to find the villa as the sign is well off the main road. A sign right by the road would be a big help. A tip, most locals we spoke with didn't recognize Villa Eluna name. Strange. They did respond to Malgretoute... the name of the neighborhood.
If you have a car, you should get provisions at first grocery by airport. Larger and better selections than groceries in Soufrerie. We enjoyed walking about this town; but it won't be for everyone. It is authentic; with a real economy and real people. Some folks hawk their wares, but not bad at all. Some are actually quite helpful. If you want an authentic experience, I'd recommend parking the car and walking around town. Eat where the islander's eat. That said, Petit Peak restaurant on waterfront is for tourists, but is very good.
We hiked Gros Peton. We all felt it was harder than advertised. But, well worth it. Take lots of water, have good shoes and take your time. You will make it and will be glad that you did. I drove there and didn't mind drive at all.
We also hiked Botanical Gardens. Get there early. They let us in a few minutes before official opening time and it was quite enjoyable By the time we were leaving, it was very busy and it would have ruined our whole experience. Lots of busses from cruise boats.
We had a wonderful 5 night stay at this villa. Please note that I did not rate as 5 star in terms of luxury, it is more rustic than we expected and I would say closer to 4 star in that regard, but 5 star in terms of location, basic amenities, beauty and view. The house needs some upkeep work, but it's nothing major.
Citronella (and other oils) candles and natural mosquito repellants seem to have helped, but the mosquitoes are relentless. I finally used Cutter that I found in a cabinet and was mercifully left alone. They do love my blood and seek me out. My husband is much more fortunate.
Ray (gardener) and Jennifer (housekeeper) were absolutely lovely and helpful. It also felt very good to have a security guard at night.
There were some times that the construction noise from the Freedom Bay development was quite annoying, especially when sitting at the lovely pool taking in the exceptional view.
We would absolutely return to this villa if we have the opportunity!
Our first trip to St. Lucia...so we had no idea what to expect. The property is fairly much as depicted in the photos, although the pool is almost impossible to keep clean given it backs onto a rain forest like jungle! If you want to come in to a stocked fridge, you need to email the property manager with a shopping list. To do this its a $40 fee. If you are landing on a sunday, you may wish to do this as the grocery store in Soufriere is not open Sunday afternoon. We rented a car which was delivered to the villa. We had no clue that the roads were so trecherous to navigate...we drove up to Rodney Bay and back and it was quite the adventure, firstly driving on the left and secondly the windy twisting narrow cliff-side drops. Pull off and let locals by wherever you can as they drive fast! We toured the volcano and the local waterfall. We rented a 43 foot sailboat and went up to Marigot Bay and back...through Mystic Man tours. Captain Wendel and his mate Alfred took great care of us. Great day! The villa is close to Soufriere and a few attractions...but far from Rodney Bay (2 hours) and Castries (1.5 hours). The grocery store in Soufriere is not great...just an FYI. Treat yourself to the spectacular views and dining at Mango Tree at Stonefield Estates just up the road. A short walk down to Margretoute Beach...a steel uphill walk back. A short 5 min drive to Sugar Beach. We also ate at Dasheen which is 5 min away as well... great spot looking at the Piton. The villa has both 220 and 110 outlets so a converter was not needed. Hairdryer also on site. Maid service from Jennifer on Mon/Wed/Fri each week. Ray the pool man/gardener took great care of the high maintenance back yard :) A security guard oomes by every night and says hello. Apparently there have been some incidents over the years on the island so its nice to know someone is watching out. There were a few ants/bugs but we found some spray on site. There are a few basics in the kitchen but not much (few spices, salt, pepper, sugar). The toaster only works on the left and you had to put it down 3x...time for a new toaster. The coffee maker did not work so we used the french press instead which was fine. The tv is only for dvd's...no television/cable or satellite. If you are renting a car get a sport utility not a sedan as the roads here are ridiculously steep...and the driveway is equally as steep. We had a fabulous time with great weather and quite enjoyed the villa.
We stayed at Eluna for the first week of our honeymoon and could not have been more happy with it. The house is amazing. It is a dream home with beautiful views, awesome architecture and style, comfortable, and has lots of WOW appeal. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bedroom was very comfortable. I loved the bathroom shower that completely faced out to the plants and the pool. Initially I was uncomfortable thinking that someone can see us, but they can't. There is nobody in view of that area. Water pressure was excellent and never had issues with hot water. Also, the house was perfectly clean.
House was well ventilated and temperature was very comfortable both during the day and at night even though there was no air conditioning. The pool was awesome, awesome, awesome! We didn't want to leave the house/property because it had everything we wanted - peace and quiet, privacy, refrigerator to cool our drinks, mango and starfruit to sweeten our days.
The staff were very nice. Both the housekeeper and gardener welcomed us on the first day. The housekeeper also joined us for our first grocery run into Soufriere. Both very nice and friendly people. We asked the housekeeper to make dinner for us one day and she made a beautiful, tasty, and massive feast that lasted us for 3 days of lunches!
Sugar Beach and Anse Chastanet are easily reachable by car as are some of the popular restaurants - Hotel Chocolat, Orlando's in Soufriere Town, Dasheene, and Martha's. We would strongly recommend renting a car. It will give you the freedom to explore.
