Why Blake Blackwelder/Diane Blackwelder chose San Luis Pass

This property is located in Treasure Island which is just the best subdivsion on the coast. It is quiet and a great get-away spot for families. We have some of the best quality Gulf water in the entire region due to offshore waters coming into the Pass with the tides. We also have City of Galveston drinking water. This is the best view anywhere because we have the ligths on the west end of Galveston Island shining across the waters of the Pass at night and in the morning we sip coffee looking at the sunrise out front. Stars and moon can be spectacular over the vast expanse of the Gulf. Pelicans fly along in formation just out front and occasionally porpoises play in the pass.

What makes this house unique

This is living on the beach at its best. The house is uniquely designed with flow-through ambiance from room to room. The view of the water from the front decks is unsurpassed anywhere. The kitchen has everything with top of the line appliances and invection cooktop. Travertine and quartzite floors throughout house. Quality mattresses and furniture.

Notes: Great shelling, large numbers of pelicans and other birds always present, best fishing area in region, close to Galveston but far enough away from population center to feel like a retreat. Practically a private beach in the off season. Water is clearer and bluer than that in the City of Galveston due to offshore blue Gulf waters coming into San Luis Pass with the tides. Due to the bridge and sand movement, cars are seldom able to drive in front of the property; although sand beaches come and go in front of the house, there is always sand beach along the pass toward the bridge and, in the other direction, there is extensive beach that extends all the way to Surfside. Beaches in front will accrete in the summer and slowly erode in winter. Horseback riding available 15 min. away.

Immaculate, luxurious, private getaway home

5 of 5
Submitted: May 17, 2013 Stayed: May 2013
This is definitely not a beach house. It is a fabulous, beautifully decorated, perfectly appointed home with every amenity one can imagine. The layout of the house is designed for privacy. There is a large bedroom/bathroom upstairs which can be closed off from the rest of the house (the other three bedrooms are downstairs) for extra privacy for seniors, parents of noisy teenagers, etc. The deck is accessible from every room in the house. The upstairs bedroom has a private deck however, another plus.

The bedrooms downstairs are roomy, convenient and lovely. Even the bunk bedroom is quite roomy in spite of two sets of double bunk beds.

The bathrooms are conveniently located with a large half bath adjacent to the huge kitchen and dining area. Having the bathing and toilet areas separate is a great touch. I second the rave reviews of the exceptionally well stocked kitchen and laundry area. The house is designed so that it looks amazingly clean even with everyone's "stuff" scattered around the large living area. The artwork is tasteful and blends with the elegance of the interior.

There are TV's in every room, but none of them were turned on while we were there (seven including a 4 year old). Mostly we sat on the deck in the rocking chairs, walked on the beach and explored the quiet neighborhood. No one was interested in going to Galveston even. We didn't want to leave the house.

The owners obviously put a great deal of expense, time, and thought into the design and placement of every perfect detail. They care about this beautiful home and it shows.

Thank you Diane and Blake for a fabulous weekend. And thank you for your flexibility is working with us to make it happen for Bob's 70th birthday.

Excellent Property

Submitted: April 29, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
The House:
This is a beautiful, recently constructed property. The interior is tastefully designed and decorated, with granite counter-tops and stainless steel appliances. The kitchen was remarkable, in addition to the cooktop, there were two convection ovens and a large microwave. We particularly enjoyed the Cuisinart Panini maker for lunch sandwiches. But there were many other small kitchen appliances available for whatever need arose. Plates, glasses and silverware are plentiful and in various sizes.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are well laid out, providing efficiency and privacy, with the sinks separate from the toilets which are separate from the showers.

The first level balcony is a full wrap-around balcony with the large sitting areas overlooking the Gulf and the street. Six large rocking chairs, along with many other deck chairs and a picnic table are provided. There are two smaller balconies on the upper level. Both levels of balconies provide excellent sunrise and sunset views.

The Area:
The property is located in the Treasure Island community at the north end of San Luis Island. This is a great place to go for a quiet, relaxing vacation. You can find sand dollars and other shells on the beach adjacent to the house which wraps around San Luis Pass. If you want more vigorous exercise, the beach at the south end of the street is perfect for jogging or taking long walks. You have 15 miles of unobstructed beach all the way to the Surfside Beach jetties.

You will not find any nightlife or bars in the area, but if you need it, a trip into Galveston can provide it. Shopping in the immediate area is limited, but the Brite Light Bait Shop can provide most common grocery items. For more selection, the Seven Seas Grocery near Jamaica Beach (about 11 miles) is surprisingly well stocked and Baywood Foods, in Freeport (about 19 miles) is a full service grocery/deli.

The area has a variety of birds and sea life. We spotted dolphin from the deck of the house several times, as well as during walks along both beaches.

The Owners:
Diane and Blake were gracious, accommodating, responsive and very easy to work with.

The Bottom Line:
This is an excellent property in a quiet and scenic area. We would definitely stay there again. In fact, within two days of returning from a two week stay, we have already booked another two weeks for later in the year.

Excellent location, amazing views, immaculate house

We rented this beautiful home for my husband's birthday and friend reunion. The weather turned out to be less than desirable as we battled some serious wind and unusually cold temperatures, BUT we could not complain as we enjoyed amazing views from pretty much every room in the house. The layout is perfect for a group of couples - every bedroom had its own private bathroom (the downstairs rooms had a shared tub/shower, but each couple had their own sink and toilet room). And I have to take a moment to rave about the kitchen (I made a meal plan and did most of the cooking) - well-stocked is an understatement! It was stocked with every utensil you could possibly need (probably more so than we have at home), the cookware was high quality, and the appliances are state of the art. I am envious of this kitchen and definitely took some notes for future upgrades in our own home. Another big perk for us was being able to bring our dog. We have a 60 lbs golden retriever who is very well-trained, but many rental properties will not allow a large dog. We are a younger couple who doesn't have a great deal of free time with demanding work schedules and graduate school in the evenings - so, when we have an opportunity to getaway for the weekend, being able to bring our canine baby is ideal. I understand how home owners could be skeptical of allowing renters to bring their pets (not every pet owner is the same), but we greatly appreciated Blake and Diane allowing us the privilege to do so and not charging a fortune for it. Speaking of the owners, Diane was beyond accommodating with booking our reservation and worked with us when a scheduling conflict arose. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely rent this home again (hopefully for a longer stay next time). Thank you Blake and Diane!

We've experienced several beach houses this one was awesome!!!! Every inch of this house is design to make you feel comfortable. Home away from home is a true statement it has all you need. From the availability of toilets to the decorations overall everything was on point. Utilizing every moment from the breath taking sunrises including watching the dolphins play to midnight looking out at the lights on the ships this made for great family bonding time. At the conclude of our stay we all express "What the best and least thing about our vacation " this time hands down we all agreed we had our best night sleep. The owners are terrific and we thank you for caring enough to add those extra touches. We surely would return as well as encourage others to come. lol we would love to know the brand of mattresses on the beds so we can stop guessing.

San Luis Pass Beach House

We had a group of 4 couples that recently stayed at this beautiful beach house. The house was very, very nice, with a great kitchen. We also had our privacy since each couple had their own room and toilet. The deck wraps around the entire house, and has great views of the gulf from three sides. There were also six super rocking chairs on the deck, in addition to many other chairs. The owners were very informative and provided good customer service, as providing a clean, well-decorated place for their guests.

The house is in a good neighborhood for daily walks, and the beach is very easy to access. We had a great visit, and would definitely recommend this house!
