Repeat visitors to Stonington may recognize our much photographed, yellow waterfront home with its tri-leveled decks and unique roofing, just two houses west of the Post Office. It’s difficult to pass by without taking notice. Nestled in between a local home, studio, and two nautical themed specialty stores, you will quickly fall in love with the buzz of this working harbor. The casual simplicity of our recently renovated Summer home is as relaxing as the waves washing in under the new mahogany decks. Breath taking views of the working waterfront and nearby islands surround you, whether you are basking in the sunshine on one of our decks, or relaxing inside. Not in the mood for taking it easy at home? The town’s varied art galleries, restaurants, specialty stores, local festivities and historic opera house, are within walking distance.

With accommodations for 9 visitors, our Summer home is ideal for the vacation of an extended family, or a group of friends traveling together. You will find a well equipped kitchen on each level, as well as private bathrooms and entrances; ideal when you’ve just returned from a day of hiking, island hopping or sightseeing and a quiet retreat is desired. Everything that you need to enjoy your time on the Island can be found at our home. Local literature; highlighting hiking trails, sightseeing must-dos, upcoming community events and local newspapers are on hand. You’ll find beach bags packed with essentials, a picnic pack and coolers for a trip to the beach, a laundry room to wash the stiff salt from your clothes, as well as Wi-Fi and telephone in case you have to be in touch with the real world.

The first floor of our home is handicap accessible. The main room, with hard wood floors overlooks the ever changing water front and includes a cozy sitting area, dining area and a well equipped kitchen. You will also find a small half bath that provides convenience for visitors. The spacious master bedroom holds a King size bed and adjoins to the full bathroom.

Newly installed wall to wall carpet covers the main room and hallway upstairs. The layout is similar to downstairs, with an open, waterfront, room containing a well equipped kitchen, dining area, sitting area and reading nook. Two bedrooms, with spacious closets and Queen beds, in addition to a new sleeper sofa in the main room will accommodate 5 people.

It looks like we will be renting from Friday to Friday as a full, 2 story unit. However, if you are interested in vacationing at our home, we are interested in making this work for you. We will gladly rent to a smaller party for a partial rental fees, and make reservations as space allows at a 4 night minimum. A Charming and Relaxing Couple's Retreat

My husband and I wanted to experience authentic Maine "harbor life" and this was the perfect place. As former boat owners from the Puget Sound area, we greatly appreciated the sights, sounds, smells and rhythms of a working harbor full of lobster boats. We watched them from the expansive deck or the windows of the bright and cheery living room.

The home exceeded our expectations. We stayed on the first floor which had been newly renovated. Everything was clean and shiny. The linens were top notch. The bed was fantastic. We slept like babies. The kitchen was well stocked so that we could cook at home when we felt like eating in although we enjoyed all three restaurants in town...all within a short walk. There was even a lobster pot for our use, although lobster prices were so reasonable that it didn't make much sense to go through the effort to cook them at home. Also, we appreciated having DirecTV and a DVR at our disposal.

As far as the location of Stonington, it was perfect for us. Besides plenty of restaurants within walking distance, there was a market we walked to for a few staples. There is a much larger "supermarket" just a 10-15 minute drive out of town. The Opera House in town should not be missed. They play first run movies along with a few live performances.

We were able to enjoy beautiful drives through the countryside as we visited Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Bangor, and all the charming little towns in between. We golfed at the Island Country Club which is about a 20-minute drive away. Don't miss a drive, just about 15 minutes away from town, to eat at the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant. We found it accidentally following a tiny little sign on the way "home" one afternoon. Another "find" was the Poor Boy Gourmet restaurant in Bar Harbor.

In summary, our week at this Stonington property was everything we had hoped for. We weren't disappointed with a thing. Again, it exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a great week.
