Overview

Ambergris Caye House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

Welcome to Paradise....With all the amenities. This 2,200 s.F.Ocean Front Hacienda has just been completed in Dec.'06. Built with the family or up to 3 couples in mind. This home sits right on the beach, 6 miles north of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, where the 18th parallel crosses this beautiful island....Hence our name 18 Degrees North.

As you walk out the front door there is a 55' long verandah which offers you cover from the occasional tropical shower and the Caribbean sun, the 1st step down is to the pool which has built in seats so you can easily read and sun while in the water, ten strides past the pool deck and your across the sand and on our 250' pier which has 2 large hammocks set up under the 16'x16' grass thatched palapa, one step down at the end of the pier is a swimming dock for those who like the salt water of the Caribbean (large wooden steps afford easy ocean access)

Kitchen has most of the amenities of a modern home.We have hooked up purified water that runs through the refrigerator/freezer thus you will have a continuous supply of pure water and ice cubes. There is an island with a sink that faces the Caribbean and french doors overlooking the pool, so that whomever has cooking duty can enjoy the view and the breeze.

One bedroom has a king size bed and the other two queens. Large closets, 2 sinks and large walk-in glass block showers are part of each bedroom. Laundry room with washer and dryer. Iron and both beach and bathroom towels are provided. Each bedroom has a porch out the french doors with seating for two.

There is a spacious living room which also has French doors that open to the pool area. Here you will find a growing selection of reading materials, cable tv and internet, dvd, cd, and the xm radio receiver. The furniture throughout is built for people of above average size.( the owner is 6'5' and weighs 250 lbs) the day time temperature is usually in the 80's most of the year, but with the French doors open onto the front verandah and a usually steady breeze off the ocean you will stay comfortable .

Ernesto and Sammantha, our caretakers, are here on site to make your visit comfortable. Their home is located about 150' behind the Hacienda where you will stay. They can help you with knowledge of local activities, restaurants, shopping, etc. And for additional charges Ernesto will take you fishing, snorkeling or lobster diving, etc, etc. and when you come back Samantha will cook it in the Belizean way.

When you rent at 18 Degrees North it include pick up and delivery to the San Pedro Airstrip, as well as one boat trip to town and back each day. We hope to see you soon at 18 Degrees North.

About Wes Witt

Married couple with 3 adult children ages 22, 24, and 26 from Pearland Texas. I run my own business and Teresa is a high school math teacher looking to retire in a few years. When we first visited Ambergris Caye we knew this is where we wanted to retire and when we saw this property we fell in love with it. There is no better place in the world than sitting on the verandah looking out over the Caribbean, whether at sunrise, high noon or a starlit night....and when you happen to be there at full moon time...unBelizable! We have found our piece of heaven, we hope you can share it with us.

Paradise found at 18 Degrees North

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to find a private house with a pool not too far from San Pedro to celebrate my wife's 50th B-day and 18 Degrees North was exactly what I was looking for. It is in a beautiful location right on the beach north of San Pedro and Wes, the owner, was great to work with and made sure everything was ok after our arrival. Ernesto picked us up in San Pedro and took us to his boat for a quick ride up the coast to 18 Degrees North. On the way to the house, my prized baseball cap that I have had for years flew off my head and landed in the water. Ernesto saw the whole thing happen and quickly stopped the boat and turned around. After about 10 minutes of searching, I thought I had seen the last of my cap but with Ernesto's expert eye (from his years of experience as a fishing guide), he found my cap and fished it out of the water for me. Ernesto said the old caps are the best ones as they have all the memories. I knew I had a friend for life at that point! Upon arrival at the pier, we were greeted by Ernesto's children and Taco Bell and Rojo the guard dogs. We then got a tour of the house and property and everything was perfect and as described. The pool was awesome and the house had plenty of room for us. The kitchen had everything we would need for our week in paradise. Over the next week we had the best time at 18 Degrees North and really enjoyed Ernesto and his family. One day we went cave tubing and to the Belize Zoo with Ernesto and Samantha and had a very memorable day. Ernesto is a great tour guide and knows everything there is to know about Belize, its people and can answer any questions you have. He pointed out all the interesting sights on the way and was a great guide at the Zoo. Samantha said she had not been to the zoo in years and I think she enjoyed it as much as we did! We also went on several snorkeling trips with Ernesto to see some of the best reef and fishes in the Caribbean. You can tell right away that Ernesto is an excellent waterman and is comfortable both on a boat and in the water. We went fishing with Ernesto and caught a bunch of lobster, snapper and conch and Samantha cooked us up one of the best meals we had all week right in our kitchen! Fresh conch ceviche, pan fried snapper and more lobster than we could eat! We had no complaints and cannot wait to return. Belize is a beautiful country with the most wonderful people and 18 Degrees North is the perfect place to stay! We cannot wait to return!

Imagine waking up, going snorkeling with Ernesto for conch and snapper, then returning for a breakfast of pan fried fish and conch ceviche snacks for the next two days.

The casa was well appointed, maintained, and cleaned. Lots of room to relax in the sun, or in the shade of the palapa at the end of the wide, solidly constructed private pier.

San Pedro town has any number of very good restaurants, watering holes, and shopping opportunities, and it's a brief 15-20 minute trip by boat with Ernesto.

The casa itself is nicely isolated with just a few passers by on the beach path.

By preference, we primarily enjoyed meals at home, all involving fresh seafood purchased at the fish market in town, or prepared by Samantha in the local tradition.

Ernesto is a highly informed guide and an accomplished waterman. Our experience was greatly enhanced by his presence.

We look forward to returning at the next opportunity.

Spectacular! Our stay was the best family trip we've ever taken...complete with a beautiful relaxed setting of the private home and view out to the reef, fantastic local food, adventures snorkeling & spear fishing, cool day trips to Caye Caulker & Shell Island, and the expertise of both Ernesto & Samantha. We ate like royalty with Ernesto helping us spear lobster and snapper then Samantha treated us to local recipes that really made our trip a cool experience. All of our friends flipped over our photos and stories and several will be booking trips to 18 Degrees North as well. Having access to the boat and Ernesto for adventures and trips to San Pedro for supplies made it easy. The people are friendly and the beauty of the water and island elude words. The question for us is not IF we will return but rather WHEN we will return...

Wonderful relaxing get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival in San Pedro we were promptly met by Ernesto (caretaker) for a short boat ride to 18 Degrees N. Ernesto is a very helpful guide of the area and was attentive to all of our needs. Samantha (caretaker) cooked us fresh Lobster two of our nights which was delicious. We went by boat on short ride off dock and Ernesto dove down to collect fresh conch and later that evening we had fresh ceviche prepared by Ernesto, which was the best I have ever tasted. It also was great just watching him getting the conch out of shell.

The weather was wonderful and even the rain we had one day was welcome to cool the breeze. It was beautiful just to see the storm clouds over the water. It did not hamper any of our adventures. Gorgeous sunrise can be seen from the beach house. If you walk a short distance down beach at the resort of X'tan Ha you can see the other side of island and view spectacular sunsets. We ate there one night and had the hamburger which we should of shared.

Just off the end of the dock we snorkeled and saw stingrays (under dock) and several tropical fish and some coral. Just a short boat ride out from the dock is the reef which more tropical fish and coral and stingrays can be seen.

We went into the town of San Pedro which is a boat ride by Ernesto and went to various restaurants including, Fido's, Estel's by the sea, Caroline's (across from airport), Wild Mangos and all were excellent. I am not sure you can get a bad meal anywhere on the island. Also visited an out of the way Karaoke bar with a host of local characters, lots of fun and great sound system. A must visit is Wahoo's Lounge to see the famous "Chicken Drop" which was held on Thursday. Also, must eat a "Fry Jack" while there. If you have to ask what that is (which we did), then this is a MUST.

I definitely recommend 18 Degrees N to stay at while in Ambergris Caye because of the beauty, quite, beach, fresh water pool and reef close by just to name a few amenities. Ernesto is there at all times to take you on any tour and boat you into town. If you do not want to cook you have Samantha there to prepare you dinner.

We stayed 5 nights and wish we could of stayed longer. Will stay at 18 Degrees N the next time to Ambergris Caye.

Guests arriving at 18 Degrees North on July 15,2014

Our entire experience at 18 Degrees North was better than we could imagine.

The owners Wes and Teresa were wonderful to deal with. They answered all of our questions and concerns. They own a fantastic rental.

The house is beautiful and as comfortable as home. We had four adults in the house and were very satisfied with the space. The amenities in the home are great and very clean and well maintained. The pool, the view and even the hammocks are amazing. The pictures on the web site are accurate only it is far better than a photo.

Ernesto is friendly, helpful and always ready to be of assistance. With his help we chose to experience some fantastic adventures such as snorkeling, seeing sea life and other sea treasures, visiting nearby islands, visiting Mayan ruins and fishing for and eating fish and lobster freshly caught by Ernesto and cooked by Samantha. Every activity we chose was great!

We highly recommend this rental property to anyone thinking about a vacation. I have given the name 18 Degrees North to many of our friends and family that are considering a visit to Belize. We say go and enjoy. It is better than you can imagine!

Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband and 16 year old son stayed at 18 Degrees North June 28- July 3rd. I have a hard time putting into words how awesome this trip was. First of all, the house is gorgeous and very comfortable, the ocean view is gorgeous, the privacy is perfect, the pool was so refreshing and just steps from the front door. But, the most amazing part of this vacation is Ernesto and Samantha. You truly have your very own excursion guide or personal cook. Yes, these cost extra, but so worth it. They are not pushy at all, you can schedule as little or as much as you want with each of them. But, I would highly suggest you take advantage of as many trips with Ernesto as you can possibly take. He is the most knowledgeable guide you can imagine. We swam with Manatee, nurse sharks, sea turtles, sting ray, speared and caught lobster, crab, fish. We felt so comfortable with his knowledge of the animals and you could tell he has a relationship with the animals, they trust him. He is an excellent guide. We also took a day trip to the Ruins. This is a long trip, but Ernesto put us with the best guide at the Ruins. Once again, it was our personal tour guide. No crowds anywhere we went thanks to the advice of days we should go by Ernesto. He really knows how to avoid the cruise ships or beat the rush. Samantha, is an excellent cook. She was very concerned with making sure our 16 year old enjoyed the food and he did. She cooked for us several different times. There is a small resort just a 5 minute walk down the beach, they have a beach bar that you are welcome to walk up to and have drinks, or order some food. The boat ride to town (San Pedro ) was really nice , about 15 minutes, no big deal even had some really windy days, But again, I felt completely safe with Ernesto. I would recommend this stay, it was a true adventure, followed by many evenings laying in the hammock while my husband fished off our private dock.
