Come and enjoy yourself on the beautiful green island of San Miguel, and relax at Vivenda Clayton. You won't be disappointed!

Margarida was born on the island of Terceira, grew up on San Miguel, and now lives near Toronto, Canada. Her husband Daniel is a hockey loving Canadian, through and through! They purchased Vivenda Clayton and completely revovated it with the intent of having a clean, safe, central, yet familiar small-town feel home for Margaridas' elderly parents, and it proved to be just that.
Now, they would love to share that with anyone who wants to visit this beautiful, most wonderous island. There are so many incredible things to see and do here on San Miguel we are certain that one day you will return!
Daniel has made the trip from Canada 14 times now, and never tires of the endless beauty, incredible sea foods and especially the fresh bread and myriad of local cheeses!
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Anyone and everyone who unwinds at Vivenda Clayton shares in the comforts that we've created for ourselves. Daniel has visited San Miguel island on numerous occasions and realized a need for a climate controlled environment within the home, and the heating & air conditioning system works fantastically.
If you don't know, you should!! first Sunday of August and after the 6th, that week is dedicated to the town, the house is located beside the church and if you are not into festivities of the type you should not visit the Island then as it can be to much fun...
the whole town partys.
The backyard is the Clayton's favorite retreat within the home. It's two separate and distinct levels offer a great combination of lower level outdoor fireplace with upper level star gazing or morning coffee. Try to make friends with the host of tiny gecko's living in the lava stone walls or plan the days adventures....
This comfortable home is located right next to a picturesque small stream across from the main Church which fronts the town square. Its location gives you the feeling that you are located in the heart of the local life. We would enjoy our morning coffee while sitting on the bank of the stream, watching the parade of Mom's escorting the kids to school, listening to the flowing water, the church bells, the sing song beauty of the Portugese language. To gain a little privacy we would sit up on the roof-top patio and experience it all while surrounded by beautiful vocanic stone walls partly covered in flowering, cascading gardens. Margarida arranged a rental car to be waiting for us when we arrived. Driving out of Ribeirinha onto the high speed auto route or into Ribeirinha Grande is very easy. The house is clean, comfortable with all the amenities we wanted. Thank you Margarida for a wonderful place to enjoy a beautiful island.
Nice and well equipped spacious house with a lovely terrace. Very friendly contact with the proprietor before our stay, she answered all our questions (not only related to the house) promptly and gave some personal advice. However, there was one BIG disturbance, reason for why we would not book this location again: one of the two bedrooms has obviously been damaged by water and the humidity seemed to be in the walls, blankets and pillows. There was such a horrible smell and bad atmosphere in that room that we could hardly breathe. As the room is also a corridor to the second bedroom, the situation was not much better in there and we didn't want to sleep the windows open as the bedrooms are on the ground floor. Martin, being an allergy sufferer, had very tough nights, and even I can't say that it was very recovering to sleep in there. In case you consider booking the house, you may wish to check with the proprietor whether the matter has been resolved. We informed her by e-mail ater our return home, but have not heard back from her. During our stay we admittedly didn't contact her as she does not live on the island and we did not expect to have the matter resolved quickly, even if we had informed her immediately. We have great memories of Sao Miguel, but thinking of the house, it left a bad impression due to the uncomfortable and „breathtaking“ nights.
This house has a spacious and well equipped kitchen, two nicely furnished bedrooms. I booked it as we wanted to stay in a calm place (what the other reviews seemed to indicate). So we were sort of 'surprised' (in August '14) by the local village festival, lasting for five days and nights, taking place in the very same street, where this house is located. Basically: On the other side of the bedroom windows. Music was loudly played at various corners, two nights until 1 a.m., one night even till 3 a.m. … just to start again in the following morning as of 9:30 a.m. We had NO information on the by the landlord, which given the extend of festival and the immediate location of the house, I - indeed - do simply expect.
Dieses Haus hat eine großzügige, offene Küche und zwei schön eingerichtete Schlafzimmer. Wir haben es gebucht, weil wir ruhig wohnen wollten. (Was die anderen Kundenmeinungen durchaus beschrieben.)
Despite being located in a fairly small town, with quite rural and weird citizens, fulfills perfectly as a place to get peace and quiet. Sometimes some young locals bothered us with their cars and their music at night, but do not elongate until dawn (thankfully). The only bad thing is that the house double rooms share door-access, making it a hassle to go through one of them to exit / enter. You need to move you car around the island and to arrive in the house. The attention of the owner is exquisite. Recommended accommodation.
Well, we heartily enjoyed our stay this past February! The house is in a wonderful location in Ribeirinha - a quiet area, but conveniently close to the larger town of Ribeira Grande, which provided for all of our shopping needs. You’ll find the house situated on a beautiful little street lined with magnificent eucalyptus trees and a babbling brook, complete with miniature waterfalls. The house itself is very nicely appointed with everything you might need for a stay of any length and has a cozy backyard with a garden, BBQ and fireplace. The backyard also offers privacy with a charming surround of tall rock walls. The immediate area by the house was particularly nice for taking a leisurely stroll, winding first through old narrow streets and then into open farmland. Only 10 minutes or so away from the house (by foot), we came to a roadway carved through the volcanic rock leading down to the ocean where we discovered relics of past whaling days.
Rent a car and the entire island becomes available to you for the exploring – day trips easily permitted us to see every corner. Whether we chose the Via Rapida (new highway) or the winding old mountain roads, the scenery was breathtaking as we traveled over deep green gorges, through quaint villages and on sheer cliffs alongside the ocean. Some of our favourite things were the tea museum, and the hot springs and dinner cooked in the ground (both at the town of Furnas). As golf lovers, we really enjoyed both of the island courses which offered a good challenge as well as the requisite stunning scenery. Ask about discount rates which the owner has pre-arranged.
Great house, great location. We most definitely recommend Vivenda Clayton!
This summer, my husband and I enjoyed a most relaxing week long vacation in the Azores. This nicely appointed home was an ideal and very comfortable location to put up our feet and relax after our island explorations each day. This vacation home was perfect in every way! The modern kitchen with granite countertops had all of the necessary equipment to prepare and serve our own meals. After a busy day on the road, having a nice, clean place to prepare our evening meal was just right for us. The living room had a comfy sofa for stretching out to watch some TV (or catch some ZZZ's). Again, this arrangement was just right for us. The good water pressure in the shower/tub combination in the bathroom made for a pleasant start to each vacation day. The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of room to organize our belongings. There was also a lovely and private patio and flower garden to enjoy behind the house complete with outdoor furniture to sit on to enjoy the fresh air. In addition, there was an outdoor fireplace and BBQ for those so inclined. We would highly recommend this lovely home away from home for people who enjoy setting their own vacation pace and who enjoy an attractive and inviting place to recharge their batteries after a busy day of golfing, whale watching, shopping or sightseeing.
Of course all of the religious 'Festas' festivities throughout the Islands are one of the main attractions every week of the summer where the local culture is at it peak and the regular traveler gets to sample a bit of everything the Island has to offer.
