Though in an unbeatable location (Kyoto’s historical Higashiyama 'Eastern Mountains' district), easy walk to down town, sightseeing spots and well connected by Subway rail and buses, it is a quite hidden Machiya (Townhouse) which makes you smile when coming back after a day of traveling.
The house is small, composed of one bedroom and a relaxing space with Western sofa and TV that looks through to a stunning Japanese moss garden. It has been lovingly restored in the traditional style of an old Kyoto Teahouse.
The house really is as lovely as the photos show.
It has with modern amenities like air-conditioning, western toilet and modern kitchen. It is fully equipped with a hairdryer, linen, iron, ironing board, towels, washing machine and dryer, everything you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The kitchen has gas stove, kettle, toaster, microwave coffee maker, refrigerator, cutleries ideal for making simple meals. Lunch and dinner is best eaten at the many nearby cafes and restaurants, with Kyoto food so cheap, interesting and varied most people prefer to eat out.
Its great location makes up for its small size. It really is perfect for a one or two week stay in Kyoto.
Nodoka-An is located 3 mins walk from Higashiyama subway station and 6 mins walk from Sanjo Station. The traditional Geisha district of Gion is less than 10 mins walk. Also the upmarket restaurant area of Pontocho along the banks of the Kamagawa River is an easy stroll. This whole area is flat and an easy walk and as with all Kyoto is quiet and perfectly safe. Fifteen minutes walk east are the Higashiyama mountains that have superb hiking course.
The area around the house has many interesting shops and is steeped in Kyoto history. The highlights of Kyoto; Heian Jinju, Kyoto Museum, Nanzenji, Kodaiji and Chion-in Temples, Maruyama Park, Philosophers Path and many more are an easy stroll from Nodoka-An. There are many interesting cafes, antique shops and specialty shops nearby.
For guests there is guide with lots of maps and information on sights and things to do in Kyoto and we are more than happy to help guests plan their itineraries while in Kyoto.
There is free WIFI in the house.
Nodoka-An is NON-SMOKING. No Daily Cleaning is offered.

If you are two, three couples or a big family, you can divide into our other houses Shirakawa cottage and Seiun-An, which are walking distance (about 5 mins) to Nodoka-An.
