Guestbook comments from the owner
We loved our stay at Dunrobin Shores. The suite was well equipped with all the necessities needed for a comfortable vacation....the rooms were beyond comfortable. The decor was so lovely.... nice to have satellite TV so we could have jazz music playing while we enjoyed the patios...the view is breathless and swimming great. Lots of levels to sit and have different views. The traffic on the Ottawa river was wonderful with all the sailboats and canoes and pleasure boats....really felt you were in a summer setting...we took a day trip to Gatineau Hills and enjoyed the view from the other side. Sunsets and sunrises were spectacular. Ottawa shopping was close by and a great grocery and LCBO in a plaza very near. Owners were on property and they were delightful....did not see much of them but when we did it was a nice visit. Really a private setting in luxurious accommodations.....best summer getaway we have had.....did not want to come home!!!!

Heather is a scientist and Mark is a retired fire-fighter. Although not a professional architect, Heather loves to design houses as a hobby. This is the second house that she has designed and had built on the Ottawa River. We lived in the unit that is now available for rent for more than a year while the rest of the house was built, and now it gives us a lot of pleasure to share it with our guests.

Heather Davis purchased this house in 2011

Mark is an Ottawa native and Heather has lived here for more than 20 years. We both love this wonderful city that despite a population of 1 million maintains its small town charm. We love living on the water and are continually amazed by the beautiful views, which can be enjoyed from many vantage points on the large and private property. It combines the very best of cottage life and luxury living - a country oasis in the city.

The view.

The large fire-pit next to the river.

All the benefits of a cottage with the luxury of a home, and near to the city.

FANTASTIC RIVERSIDE HOME

  • 5 of 5
The property was a fantastic place on the riverside.
It had great views of the water and across to the other side; appearing more like a lake. The water direction changed from flowing one way to the other and was sometimes shrouded in mist.
The house itself was vast with large windows in the living room and two of the bedrooms which allowed for some wonderful views. We took some fantastic photographs of sunrises with reflections in the water.
This was a great place to stay with everything you could think of being provided. There was even several teas and coffees.
The home was well maintained and clean.
Heather and Mark were friendly and even provided us with a map so we could find our way around Ottawa and the surrounding area which was very kind of them. Heather provided us with good directions from the airport which were a godsend as coming from England we would have got lost.
My sister and father who travelled with me were blown away by the size of the rooms and the spectacular views across the water, and the large amount of outside seating areas. We were in Canada to trace our family tree on our fathers side and staying here enabled us to see a lot of the area where our grandfather would have lived which was great.
We would highly recommend it if you want to stay in a really lovely area in a huge property where you can just relax and enjoy the fantastic views. Ottawa is not far away and there is a countryside drive into it which is worth travelling on. You can cross bridges to the other side of the river and spend time in the French speaking part of Canada.

WONDERFUL WHITE CHRISTMAS!

  • 5 of 5
We had the very good fortune of staying a week at Heather and Mark’s home. We were looking for an attractive place that was not too far from Ottawa, but would give us the opportunity to enjoy a white Chritsmas in Canada (a dream come true for our French family !) It was a 45 min ride to the city ,and it would take us 20min to get to a grocery store. But we were right on the river ( which looks more like a lake) and got to enjoy the countryside at its best !

Upon our arrival, Heather warmly greeted us with a tour of the home which was exactly as pictured. It was bright, stylishly decorated and very well equipped with everything we needed. This even included shampoo, conditioner, shower soap, kitchen cleaning supplies, laundry cleaning supplies, etc. And so many towels ! That makes you feel at home, not in a renting place.

The location was perfect especially for our needs. With a newborn and a toddler, we needed a place where we would be able to enjoy the winter time from the inside. The living room, with is big fire place and its huge TV was just that, and thanks to all the French doors, we were able to watch the lake from Sunrise to Sunset. The view really is stunning.

I can’t describe the feeling you have when you are back from a walk on the frozen lake and you get to enjoy some time in the sauna, before having a drink near the fire place… Cherry on the top : we built a snowman and as we were back in the warm living room, a deer came to eat the carrot that was its nose. My daughter was delighted !

Heather and Mark treated our little Cécile with 2 adorables Teddy Bears as a special welcome, and they made sure we had all we needed all the time. It was really nice to know that we could count on them. And in the same time, we barely saw them and really felt that we had the place for ourselves. They invited us for a drink on Christmas Eve and also made sure we could enjoy the firepit on the terasse before we had to leave their little paradise. We were glad to have the privilege to spend some time with them.

If you are looking for a vacation rental in the Ottawa area, this is your place. Thanks a lot Heather and Mark, I really hope we’ll be able to come back for spring or summer.

  • 5 of 5
Had a wonderfull 4 night stay, property is really gorgeous. Heather and Mark are very warm and friendly, as is Oscar their dog, so sweet and polite. My family was "blown away" when they came by this place to celebrate my birthday one evening, very memorable day. Great BBQ. Was perfect could not ask for anything better, would LOVE to stay again, would highly recommend.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5
We had a family friend coming to visit us and we choose to go with them to Heather and Mark.
Before we rented the house, Heather gave us all the information we needed in order to plan our vacation with our friends. Heather’s recommendations were excellent and help us a lot in our planning.
When we arrived at the house we were very welcome by Mark, who was an excellent host. He shown us the apartment, how to use different equipment and make us to feel like home. Also, Mark gave us recommendations to find restaurants, grocery stores and best roads for our trips which help us tremendous. We appreciate very much Mark’s time to help us.
The apartment is very spacious, light, clean, with high-end appliances and modern furniture, equipped with all you need to feel like home, or even better than at home! Both bathrooms have heated floors and the fire place in the living room made the raining days more pleasant.
The view of the river is amazing and made us to enjoy the stay, even when was raining. We had one sunny day and we planned to spend the evening around the fire pit. Mark was so nice and started up the fire, so, when we were back from our trip to Perth we just prepared the dinner and enjoyed staying around the fire and watch the moon and the river. I can say that was an excellent experience, the property is as it is described by the owners and the owners were excellent hosts. We are looking to coming back, maybe this winter for skiing. Thank you Heather and Mark!

WONDERFUL STAY

  • 5 of 5
Upon arriving at this beautiful home, we were warmly greeted by the owner, who took the time to show us around and make us feel right at home. Thereafter, we had all the privacy we could ask for, while enjoying the luxuries of this peaceful location. This property was gorgeous, with the pristine water, quiet location and a great canoe we were able to take advantage of. Although we were very fortunate to have great weather, it rained one day, and we had no problem staying indoors. The sauna and large walk-in shower were excellent extras, and the kitchen was perfect for meal preparation. We would recommend this property for anyone looking to get away from the chaos of the city. Thank you to Mark and Heather for the first class treatment.

SPECTACULAR OTTAWA GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I visited Heather & Mark's gorgeous estate over Xmas 2012 to house hunt for our move to the area. We picked the place because it looked lovely over the Internet, Heather was quick to reply to out inquiry and questions, and because it was pet-friendly as we were traveling with our two large dogs.

The property, owners, & overall experience exceeded our expectations!

Property: The condo is the bottom floor of Heather's custom built home. There's a private entrance with an enormous mud room (which was needed as we got 3-feet of snow) and full-size W/D. The 3-bedoom, 2-bath condo has heated floors throughout, a walk-in closet in master's bedroom, a gas fireplace (which is all the heat you'll need), a sauna, a huge walk in shower, double sinks in both baths, a full kitchen with high-end appliances, access to the private & fenced yard, and spectacular views of the river from every room!

Owners: Months before we even arrived, Heather was kind enough to help us pinpoint areas of interest to look for houses. She also recommended real estate agencies and provided contacts related to my career. Upon arrival, Heather showed all us around her lovely estate and gave us information where we could snow-shoe, mountain bike & runs the dogs. She and Mark even had us over for Christmas dinner, which was absolutely delicious. Despite being downstairs, we had the utmost privacy and the owners never intruded into our space. We (and our pups) felt welcome at all times.

Location: The property is located in Dunrobin, a quiet neighborhood about 30 minutes east of Ottawa, along the river. We were able to snow-shoe & cross-country ski from the property. I ran several times on the roads which we quiet and well cleared of snow and ice. One can cross-country ski and ice skate on the river but it wasn't frozen over enough for us. The property is close to mountain bike (Highland Park) too. We enjoyed the rural feel and didn't mind the short drive to the city.

I highly recommend Heather and Mark's home. I assure you it will exceed your expectations too.

Happy trails,
Rebecca, Mike, Max & Lexi

Notes:
The propety is located on the Ottawa River, which is very wide at this point (about 2 km), so appears much more like a lake. The river is excellent for boating - both power boats and sailing - the property has a dock for day mooring and there is a marina very close for use when water conditions are rough or overnight. Swimming is excellent since there is very little current and the water is very warm during the summer months - a ladder at the end of the dock makes it easy to get in and out of the water. The water-front at the property is flat rocks, but not too far away is a large bay with a beautiful sand beach that is open to the public.
