THE DAMES INN-5 STAR GUEST RATED! EXCEPTIONAL SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY NEAR DOWNTOWN

Wilmington House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Step back in time and discover the best of modern day amenities while surrounded by the charms of yesteryear that defines the luxury accommodation at The Dames Inn.

Located in the former 'streetcar suburb' of Carolina Heights, this grand home is just blocks from the downtown waterfront and minutes from the film studios. Actress Jennifer Connelly has been a guest while filming the movie, 'Stuck in Love'. Currently, the TV series 'Under the Dome' is being filmed locally along with the series, 'Sleepy Hollow'.

The Dames Inn is a perfect place for family gatherings, bridal parties, or romantic retreats.

Built in 1924, this unique property is close to shops and restaurants, and minutes from ILM airport. Wrightsville beach is a 15 minute drive from the property and Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Ft. Fisher (home to the NC Aquarium) is 30 minutes away.

The house features a fully renovated, well-equipped gourmet kitchen and pantry, Pirate Pub, original tiger oak hardwood floors, spacious rooms, and tasteful furnishings. Conveniences include security system, natural gas powered generator, wireless internet, fenced-in back garden, and cable television.

With 5000 square feet of luxurious living area, guests can gather in comfort or retreat to one of the 14 immaculately presented rooms for privacy.

The Dames Inn is aptly named in honor of the previous owner, Dame Catharine Carpender whose spirit can still be felt in the halls of this grand house. The home has virtually remained unchanged since the day she was built some 90 years ago. When you step through the front door you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time with original photos and architectural drawings of the home displayed in the formal parlor. The parlor, with its overstuffed leather sofas, invites you to sit and relax. Sip your morning coffee in the adjacent sun parlor before venturing out into the garden. From the parlor, open the French doors to the library and find the original built-in bookcases filled with novels, board games and a selection of DVD’s featuring movies filmed in the Wilmington area. The formal dining room boasts original wallpaper, antique chandelier, and a dining room suite with seating for eight. The fully stocked kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances is a chef's dream. The butler’s pantry has been converted into a pirate pub room—perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing the Cape Fear region.

The Dames Inn offers four spacious guestrooms--two king master bedrooms and two queen bedrooms. There are two original Jack & Jill bathrooms which are accessible from the bedrooms they adjoin. All bedrooms and bathrooms are on the second floor; there is no elevator.

The first master bedroom features a king-sized canopy bed, oversized furnishings and original light fixtures. The second master has a king-sized sleigh bed, decorative fireplace and adjoins a private sitting room.

The third bedroom boasts original wallpaper with a charming queen-sized four poster bed while the fourth queen bedroom has access to the upstairs balcony overlooking the lovely gardens. Three of the four bedrooms have flat screen televisions with DVD player.

The sprawling front porch with inviting rockers and an old fashioned porch swing beckons you to come and sit a spell.

I fell in love with the Bergen Carpender house in the year 2001. From the moment I crossed her threshold I knew that I was about to become a part of the remarkable history and legacy of this amazing home. It was like stepping back in time as the house has remained essentially unchanged from the day it was built in 1924.

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Wilmington is a vibrant city steeped in history and rooted in southern traditions. I love that you can walk to the downtown markets on Saturday mornings or take a short drive to the beaches in the summer. You can stroll down to the coffee shop and catch up with the locals. Summer evenings are spent on porch swings with neighbors and everyone greets you with a smile.

While this is a vacation property it is first and foremost my home and a place I wanted to share with people who would appreciate her character and her timeless beauty. Couple the charms of an historic home with the modern conveniences we've all come to enjoy and you have an incredible place you get to call home for a while. I hope that you find all that and more at the Dames Inn.

Lovely Accomodations!

Thank you, Patricia, for sharing your beautiful and immaculate home with us. Being able to stay at The Dame added so much charm to our special weekend. We were in the area for an important family event at Wrightsville beach and it was so nice to be able to come "home" each day to such a relaxing and beautiful environment. Anything you could need you will find at "The Dame" and Patricia has thought through everything and has included so many helpful and thoughtful and charming touches to this historical home. We plan to be back!

Perfect home base for our visit to Wilmington, the Port City!

  • 5 of 5
Everything about our stay at The Dames Inn was terrific beginning with the initial planning of our trip. Patricia is extremely gracious, making us feel instantly welcome, and providing us with some great ideas of what to see and do while in town. Our family visited for a week in order to get a feel for Wilmington since our daughter was arriving as a UNCW student. The visit was a success! The house is beautiful, historic and comfortable at the same time with all the amenities we needed. The Dames Inn is a great house in a fantastic town. Visit if you can!!

Just enjoyed a four night family and friend gathering for a 50th birthday at the Dame's Inn. It's a fantastic house full of character and history. The house is presented to a very high standard and equipped with everything that we needed.
The owner was extremely welcoming and courteous throughout and displays a large collection of pictures and reading material regarding the fascinating history of the house.
I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Dame's Inn.

The Dames Inn

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I had the good fortune to talk to Patricia Peters and rent the Dames Inn for a few nights in July. The house is lovingly and fabulously restored down to every detail. Patricia took us for a tour the first night and we learned about the Dame and her humanitarian efforts which resulted in her being knighted. We were honored to be able to stay in such a historically important property and have never slept better. At one point I thought I heard a little tinkling of a wine glass in the pirate's pub which we were advised could be the Dame toasting to our arrival. We will most definitely stay at the Dames Inn again and, in fact, are in the process of making plans now to come back. Thank you Patricia for your unbelievable attention to detail and your graciousness. Claudette and Michael Connors

Exceptional Caretaker, Well-Furnished for 8, Fascinating History

  • 5 of 5
Home comes very much as-billed; our party was four couples, and the sleeping arrangements worked very well. All bedrooms are on the second floor, which allowed people to go to bed or rise in the morning on their own schedule. Downstairs layout works very well, with an extremely well-stocked kitchen, large dining area, and 3 lounging areas. We had good weather for half of the days, which we spent at Wilmington Beach (15-20 minutes away), and poor weather for the other half. The comfort of the living space (including a great front porch) made for a great experience, even for the days we were trapped in. The hostess is extremely helpful and friendly; after we settled on our dates, she provided a guide to services in the area and clear outline of all the accommodations (and what we would likely want to bring with us). She was able to meet us, give a brief and informative tour of the property, and then left us to unpack and explore. Had the sense she was there if needed, but not at all intrusive. She mentioned that the home is often used by families / bridal parties for a wedding - that's not why we were there, but we all commented what a great venue it would be for that.

SOUTHERN CHARM

  • 5 of 5
We arrived at The Dames Inn a few days before our son's wedding the same day Hurricane Arthur arrived. Patricia, the gracious owner met us with umbrella in hand and gave us a tour of the entire house.
Once you step inside this beautiful home, you will know that you made the right decision. It has all the modern conveniences with the charm and elegance of a historical house. Most importantly, it felt like home.
The Dames Inn was also conveniently located to the wedding venue at the Brooklyn Art Center, the rehearsal party at the Coastline Convention Center and the USS North Carolina Battleship where we watched the fireworks.
Thank you Patricia for your kind, professional hospitality and making our trip complete.
