After many years living in the midst of the Tuscan countryside, not within easy reach of any of the big cities, from time to time, I crave museums, cinema and beautiful shops. Even though distance-wise I am actually closer to Florence, I prefer to head to Rome for my citybreaks. I like Rome, possibly because it’s the city where I was born, but certainly because the weather is mild even in the winter. Being so close to the sea, there is often, eaven in the summer evenings, a light breeze called “ The Ponentino”.
I love Rome for the late hours it keeps so there is no risk of finding restaurants closed at 10 pm. You can visit some museums in the evenings at the weekends, giving you the chance during the daytime to go shopping in the countless shops where there is ample choice and the occasional bargain.
My apartament is in Trastevere 10 minutes’ walk from St. Peter’s, 5 minutes’ walk from St. Maria in Trastevere and just over the Tiber via either the Mazzini bridge or the Sisto bridge, and you are immediately in Campo dei Fiori, Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
The apartament is in a cul de sac which is closed at the end by the Botanic Garden and the slopes of
Gianicolo.
This residential street is considered one of the most beautiful in Rome for its backdrop of greenery. In fact as soon as you take the Via della Lungara it’s like opening the stage curtains and seeing the picturesque scenery of a play.
The apartments were constructed in 1800 by Cardinal Riario, from whom the street takes its name. Being one of only ten apartments, the flat is very quiet, with a monastery opposite and the Botanic Garden at the side. Even though it’s right in the heart of the historic centre of the city, you can enjoy the tranquillity whilst still being very close to appealing places such as restaurants, bars and shops of this area where the night life is very lively.
Romans famously love the small hours and seem almost to forget to sleep. Even some news stands are open at night time.
The apartment is furnished with antique furniture.
