Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Brett:

Just wanted to write and let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the Capt. Johnson House last week. We were very comfortable and the house was comfortable and just perfect. I understand from your niece that you were responsible for the design and renovation. You did a fantastic job.

We’ve rented many homes in Florida and in Park City over the years and your home was the most comfortable and beautifully appointed.

Thank you again for a memorable stay.

Our vow renewal with family

  • 5 of 5

Our stay started in the evening, so we were not able to get the full impression of the home until the morning. That first evening was spent casually touring the home and all it had to offer, which was everything you could really need for a little vacation and more. From the wonderfully laid out kitchen, to the open living room and dining room, there was little need for anything to be comfortable. The cozy den in the cornerof the home, sharing a fireplace with the living room was a lovely start to our first morning. Of course, the views were terrific and from the roof top deck, you can see a 360 panorama of Casco Bay and Harpswell Sound. World famous Cooks Lobster House is clearly visible from the dining room and front deck and well within walking distance. That first morning did pose the first issue we experienced during our stay in that the bed was so comfortable and the sunlight streaming through the windows made it difficult to get up (a problem we faced each morning).

We renewed our wedding vows that Saturday and had no issues with parking (there's a little spot to park extra cars just before you reach the house on the main road). There was never a question whether or not we could entertain the number of people who arrived and all the room provided us an wonderful, intimate and easy gathering of family and friends. With some hired kitchen help, the lobster, clams and beverages flowed throughout the afternoon and everyone was sated. There was plenty of seating for everyone, and room for the kids to move around (the basement houses a wonderful entertainment area that resembles a small movie theater and most of the kids spent their time there).

Overall, our trip was wonderful and we hope to plan another stay there soon. I have suggested this venue to several friends and passed the pictures on to them. A wonderful home away from home.

A Great Wedding Venue

  • 5 of 5

First of all, the house is beautiful. The ocean views are amazing, especially from the rooftop deck. My wife and I were married in a small private ceremony on Nov. 2nd 2013. All our guests had their own private bedrooms and baths, which made for a great environment for our combined families meeting for the first time. We had the event catered, and our caterer was able to decorate the dining room to our tastes, while taking advantage of the fully equipped gourmet kitchen to prepare the meals. There is tons of space for entertaining, and on our two-night stay, we barely used all the space. I highly recommend the Captain Lawrence E. Johnson house as an excellent location for a small to medium sized friends and family getaway.

This was our second visit and it was as wonderful as the first. The property is as lovely as it appears in the photos - the kitchen is superb. The area is perfect for a long weekend getaway.

Top Notch

  • 5 of 5

Over the top place to stay with lots of entertainment space, professional kitchen, bedroom privacy and wonderful views...especially from the rooftop deck. Brett was attentive to any of our questions and concerns.

We were there for our son's wedding and hosted a brunch afterwards.....totally successful.

Nice location across the street from the lobster cove and a short walk to the famous Cribstone Bridge and a great restaurant .....The Cribstone Cafe Restaurant. Great food at a great local price.

Would love to come back someday!

beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

My sister's wedding was at the house and it was a very classy affair in such gorgeous surroundings. the caterers were able to use the kitchen while we sat at the tables that were set up or chatted among the couches. the fireplace was a great setting for their vows and the whole place is full of windows that look out onto the beautiful bay. all of the rooms are nicely decorated and everything has a new, fresh feel with an ocean flavor to it like the boat style handrails leading upstairs. we didn't stay overnight, but the rooms seemed nice and spacious with well kept bathrooms. the basement room is nice and open for leisure afterwards.

Perfect for an international Thanksgiving feast

  • 5 of 5

We decided to rent this spacious and well-equipped home on Bailey's Island 28 miles from our own small Maine house to help us accommodate an international crowd for Thanksgiving -- the French and Turkish families of our children’s spouses.

It was pretty much perfect.

Spacious bedrooms, each with a private bath, great for when people needed a break from family in three languages.

A wonderfully organized and well-equipped kitchen around which any number of experienced cooks could comfortably work together. (We had a Thanksgiving feast one night; Turkish food the next; foie gras, oysters, and lobsters the third. Yum!)

A giant L-shaped living space bringing kitchen, dining, and living room together so that our one-year old grandson could happily run around under the adoring eyes of all of his grandparents and most of his aunts and uncles.

And a very fancy entertainment system below that allowed the serious football fans to stream an untelevised NFL game from a laptop to the giant screen one night and blast the house with a cranked-up Avatar another.

We spent daytimes walking all around Bailey’s Island or enjoying the views from everywhere in the house. Oh – and the sunsets were to die for.

‘Nuff said.
