Overview

Park Rapids Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 6: 2 bedrooms and pull-out futon. Great view of the lake!

This cabin, part of West Crooked Lake Resort, located on West Crooked Lake in Nevis, Minnesota, is a very clean and well maintained cabin. The large main bedroom contains a queen bed and the second bedroom a full bed. The living area has a futon that sleeps 2, so the cabin sleeps up to 6 people comfortably. The main bedroom has a sliding glass patio door with access to an extra large deck where you can relax and enjoy a wonderful view of West Crooked Lake.

We provide complete bed linens. We supply toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and hand soap. You will need to bring your own bath and kitchen towels. Free Wi-Fi is part of your stay. This is a non-smoking cabin.

West Crooked Lake Resort, nestled along 400 feet of lakeshore, is a family-friendly resort located in the Paul Bunyan State Forest, surrounded by towering pines. We are a year-round resort, situated on the northeast shore of West Crooked Lake. While our location is quiet and serene, we are only 15 miles NE of Park Rapids, MN and 15 miles SW of Walker, MN, where opportunities for shopping, dining, and recreation are plentiful.

We provide activities on the resort for everyone. Although most of our guests like to fish, if that isn’t your thing, there are many other activities to enjoy. Build a sand castle on our sandy beach, swim in the gradual slope of the lake, play on the trampoline, take a leisurely stroll of the lake on a kayak, paddleboat, or canoe, or find time to enjoy them all. Enjoy a book from our lodge while relaxing on the beach. If the weather isn't cooperating, we also have many movies for the kids and adults, or board games for the whole family. You will also find yard games like volleyball, tetherball, badminton, basketball, croquet, and more! And just for the kids, we offer scheduled activities Tuesday and Thursday, and Wednesday is movie night.

The area offers many interesting and exciting attractions, such as Itasca State Park where the Mississippi Headwaters is located, a local winery, a fun park, the Heartland Trail (a paved trail, excellent for biking, walking, or rollerblading in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter through the beautiful countryside), Northern Lights Casino, and many shopping and dining choices. Dorset, the “restaurant capital of the world” is just minutes from the resort.

Whether you want a summer vacation, to watch the leaves fall, or a snowmobiling trip, West Crooked Lake Resort can accommodate any adventure you're looking for.

Winter in Minnesota is an amazing time. Not only are there an abundance of ways to enjoy the snow, but the scenery is simply breathtaking. The snow covered pine trees and lakes are like something straight out of a picture. The crispness of the cold air makes the star-filled sky on a clear evening seem like they are within reach, and the moon shines so bright, it illuminates the snow. It’s an experience even those who are not fans of winter would find hard to dislike.

If it’s a winter vacation you want, West Crooked Lake Resort provides comfortable accommodations for large snowmobiling groups or just getting away with some friends. Ice fish all day, snowmobile directly from your cabin to one of the many nearby groomed trails, cross-country ski on local trails, or just spend your time in the warm and cozy cabin enjoying the Northwoods.

Check out our website for deals or specials we offer throughout the year.

About Randy & Kathy Soldwisch

We grew up in Iowa but spent many summers vacationing in the beautiful Northwoods of Minnesota. We loved being up here every time we came, and knew this is where we wanted to be.

Randy & Kathy Soldwisch purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Randy & Kathy Soldwisch chose Park Rapids

When we were ready to purchase a resort, we knew what we had in mind for a resort. After looking at many resorts, we visited West Crooked Lake Resort and both knew instantly this was the one. Located in a quiet wooded area, the cabins sit on the spacious grounds overlooking a secluded, beautiful lake. This is definitely a family vacation spot, with something for everyone - a large sandy beach with a water trampoline, canoe, and paddleboat; boats for fishing, or just touring the lake; activities for the kids; plenty of nature seeking; and of course, listening to the loons calling.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I visit in the early summer and again in the fall and can't wait to get to this cabin. Even if it rains, it is so cozy to read a book inside. Can fish off the dock right below the cabin

Nice cabin on small resort

  • 4 of 5

Cabin was as expected and clean. Photos give accurate representation. Great resort for families with small children because all amenities are very close in proximity. Beach was nice. Plenty of lake side seating available. Water trampoline was fun but needed more air added towards end of week. Only 3 of 5 cabins were rented when we were there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Could be pro or con: resort owners do not check in on guests (to ask if need anything) in fact, have other full time employment. Not really Wi-Fi as advertised - it's in the owners cabin and we had poor coverage. The only satellite TV was in the lower level and seating for only 3 people (one chair and futon). The TV in the loft did not have satellite, only DVD player and only place to sit was futon. The only seating in the kitchen area is benches along table and stools - no comfortable seating. The cabin lacks a living room or great space area for a big group to gather as it has capacity for 14. Only one bath towel per 2 people provided and no laundry facilities near. Ran out of toilet paper and paper towels. Gas grill ran out of gas during our first use. Only one communal firepit and not appropriately dug into ground with adequate barrier so, fire could not be left unattended. Wood provided was all rotted and not good for burning. We ran out of wood every night we made a fire. Resort offered smores for guests on Wednesday night however, it was after my kids had bathed, had pj's on and were ready for bed. Nice pontoon however, would NOT rent per hour and was NOT negotiable. "Children's activities" was coloring crayons and paper :(. No place for kids to bike safely on property-don't bring them. Check out was 9:00am which I thought was uncharacteristically early compared to other resorts we have stayed. Neighboring small towns were fun. Visited Itasca State Park. Dorset for dinner. Walker for shopping. Nevis had a fun coffee shop/ice cream shop my kids liked. Local winery Forestedge was beautiful. Would recommend.

Owner's Response: We appreciate thoughts of previous guests so we can make necessary improvements. We do offer free WIFI as stated on our website. We mention on the welcome page in the cabin that it can be spotty but resort guests can use the table in the lodge (next to our home) for better connection whenever they’d like. We have satellite tv in each cabin and 2 tvs in the large cabin, and thought it may be enjoyable to have a tv for dvd viewing only, especially for kids. Our futons will seat four people comfortably; we know this to be true because we have one in our own home. Since kitchens are meant for eating, we didn’t feel it was necessary to put a couch in there. Many families with 10-14 people stay in the four bedroom cabin rebook and tell us they love it, that it’s perfect for their family. But perceptions vary, and we understand that. We provide one towel for each person in a cabin, and it’s up to the guests to let us know if they need more. If there are more people staying than we were initially told (as was the case for this reviewer), we wouldn’t have enough towels for everyone. We also provide clean towels (one per person) each Wednesday. Same for toilet paper and paper towels, guests need to let us know when they need more. We don’t know how much gets used, as each week is different. We will now state that more clearly in our cabin information. We actually had our firepit inspected and it meets Minnesota fire code. MN state policy says fires CANNOT be left unattended; and out of respect to other guests, we ask guests not to use all the fire wood if not sitting at the fire pit. Our wood was getting down to the end, and was soft and not great for burning, so that was our mistake and we apologize. This is NOT always the case. Going forward, we are not going to put out wood that will not burn well. We do state to let us know if more wood is needed. If no children show up at the scheduled activities time, then we don't have the activities. There is a photo on our website under resort activities showing an activity day, which kids staying with us love being a part of. Our watercraft policy simply states on the website and in the cabin we rent the pontoon daily and weekly. That’s our policy. 9 am is a normal resort check out time during the summer. The reason is to give us time to clean and prepare the cabins for the next group, same as we do for everyone. Most people are respectful of this summer policy. Check out is more flexible other times of the year.
